"Excellent Light"
- Product Review by Michelle Schultz
(Posted on 8/25/11)
-
Comments: Received the 18" Nova Extreme lamp in excellent condition. Packed securely with no damage. After figuring out how to remove the lens cover (it slides off the side) the placement of the bulbs was quite simple - insert and turn until it clicks. This lamp lights my tank very well, and my fish and corals have improved dramatically. I chose not to use the legs that were supplied, instead have opted to set the lamp directly on the glass cover of my tank. It does not produce an extreme amount of heat, but does put out alot of light. A very nice light and money well spent. Thinking of getting a second one so I can run daylights in one and actinics in the other. Rated 4 stars because a switch for each lamp would be great.

"Pretty good light"
- Product Review by Andy Shantz
(Posted on 7/23/11)
-
Comments: Light arrived with a small crack near one of the end caps (probably a shipping issue and not one that has to do with the light) but still works just fine and I was getting ready to leave town so didnt want to deal with the hassel of sending it back and waiting for a new one. Illuminates a 20-long seahorse/refugium well, and is doing a good job keeping algae, plants and some hardier, lowlight corals happy. Pretty good purchase for the price.

Comments: Love this nano system. Got the marineland led's, and couldn't even grow macro algae. Now my corals are thriving under this light and are loving every minute of it. You really cant get a better lighting system for the price, and size. I am extremely pleased and my montiporas and my green implosion palys are pleased as well.

Comments: I've looked in many online sites for afortibale marine lighting. I found this one OMG it's perfect. The colors my fish have now are so bright. My coral are happier that ever. If you buy a Nova Extreme 2 Bulb T5 HO 10K/460nm Marine it would be the best thing you can do for your saltwater Aquarium.

"Great for Refugiums"
- Product Review by Logan Rosenstein
(Posted on 6/8/10)

Comments: My old light burned out and had a specific bulb that was discontinued.. My bad luck. So I got the Current T5 setup as a replacement in my refugium to grow macroalgae. It has a great output across the spectrum that stimulates growth directly underneath it as well as illuminates my entire sump area for when I'm working under there. Its pretty compact and the included legs make it very easy to install... Great Product!

"Can't Beat It"
- Product Review by Steve Maida
(Posted on 3/23/10)
-
Comments: For the price you can't beat it. Trust me I tried. I had the fish store take out 10 different fixtures. This was the only one that when we flipped upside down and turned on, the blue light actually blinded me. I put this on my tank and within 10 minutes my live rock's red alage turned to purple and my rock really does look FIJIAN now. My sand looks so white as well. No noise, awesome leg/stands. I compared this light directly to the Coralife Aqualight 48" and this was by far better. (coralife was to purple)

Comments: I have had a 35 hexagonal saltwater tank for 8 years now and always had a simple 1 bulb system...most recent reef sun...I always saw very nice looking tanks and most recently looked into getting a good lighting system.
The lights I saw were too long and started at around $180.00...I found this light on the sight and did not need the feet...just sits right above and the light is amazing...I would have paid much more for this light as well...very bright and deep blue color...my fish look awesome.

"Worked nice, but caught fire."
- Product Review by Bimba Karunaratne
(Posted on 11/24/09)
-
Comments: This is a really nice light. Very bright. The light is very thin and does not distract from the aquarium.
However my particular unit caught fire on one of the socket ends after only 20 days of use. The socket melted and the light fell out of that end, and stopped after melting part way into the clear cover. The fire then self extinguished. Hopfully this was a one off rare event!

"24" 2X24 Watt Review"
- Product Review by Colin Lorenz
(Posted on 8/31/09)
-
Comments: I just got this light for my 10 Gal Nano Reef. Although my tank is only 20" and this light is 24" the overhang isn't bad at all. The light is still contained in the tank. Also I liked the fact this had 1 power cord (less equipment needed). They must have updated the fixtures' reflectors. I read in previous posts that this model had only one reflector for the 2 bulbs. Mine actually has 2 reflectors, one for each bulb. The heat output is almost nothing and it's completely silent (which is good for me because my tank is in the living room). Anyways, if you have a small 10 or 20 gallon tank this light is PERFECT!

Comments: I bought this fixture and easily set it up on the tank. It looked and ran great for about a month. After one month it started shorting out randomly. Some days it would turn on and run fine all day, others it wouldn't turn on at all. I ended up having to buy new electric components for it and rigging up my own system to keep my reef under normalized lighting.

Comments: Great little light for the money. Only problem with it is that it does not fit on a 10 gal with the provided legs. All reviews I read about it said it worked well with their 10 gallon. "Good for 25gal Tank"
- Product Review by Eric Nees
(Posted on 2/6/09)
-
Comments: I have a rather cubical 25gal tank with a large boxy hood and I was having trouble finding a light that would fit inside the hood. This 18inch is nice and short so fitting in the hood is no problem. It puts out some really intense light which makes the two 10W Coralife compact florescent bulbs in the tank next to it look dim and lifeless. It gets warm but not hot, and the build quality seems very good. Great compact and energy-saving alternative to metal halide.

"Nice Light!"
- Product Review by Sharyn Z Wertz
(Posted on 1/15/09)
-
Comments: I swapped a 20" 28w PC light for this one and gained 8w in a much more convenient size for my 14gal SW tank (same footprint as a std. 10gal). Separate switches for the actinic and daylight lamps would have been nice, as would a lunar light, but all in all I'm very pleased with both the size and output. Being a Current USA light, the quality is, of course, excellent.

"New Lighting"
- Product Review by George Talbot
(Posted on 1/8/09)
-
Comments: It cetainly is bright. Maybe a little brighter than what I had wanted. It lights up the entire room.
I had a light that sat flush with the top of the tank this one must be on raised legs due to the high heat output. I had a duel switch before so I could time the nights and mornings to get brighter and darker as the day
turned. this has only one switch. When timer reaches morning ....Blast! Light. then Night...Blackout.
It is in the same room as the TV so on Weekends I may have to scheild the light from blinding the TV.
Again the product works great, I think its too bright for my or fish needs.(tank = fish only). Maybe I need to invest in a moonlight to remedy the situation, or see if the bulb can be swapped for dimmer. I liked the slight blush I had before with the actinic. This lamp has two bulbs and the white drowns out the balance. My fish colors seem different and less rich. The recommendation below is for the product and not necessarily my experience of it. American Made a plus.

"Disappointed!"
- Product Review by Robert Fly
(Posted on 12/14/08)
-
Comments: I can't say how well the light works as mine doesn't. I knew the fixture couldn't be very well built for only 90 bucks but I did expect it to work. The shipment was very well packaged and yet the delicate end with scroll work was broken. I thought, not a problem and got some krazy glue and pieced it back together. Then I put the tubes in and began to get a sick feeling as they seemed to be too short for the fixture meaning the holders seemed to far apart for the tubes. Still, I put them in but they were very loose, I thought this is not good, sure enough when I plugged in the fixture a tube flashed only once, and once I heard a frying sound at the pins but never a light. I don't know if I'll try another unit or a different brand. I understand others have not had any problems with these and it would be a good value if it worked, mine didn't.

"Buying another"
- Product Review by Stephen Sydor
(Posted on 9/29/08)
-
Comments: I'm happy with my 1st unit and buying a 2nd so I can swap bulbs and run actinics as dawn day and dusk whileother fixture is a day runner on 2 timers. The wall wart for the fan is a bit of a bad design choice. I have to run power bars from my timers. They could have integrated a small xfmr and had it be automatic. The fan is a bit noisy. A smarter designer would have used a 24v fan at 12v to keep it quiet. Power cord could have exited the side tomake my dual setup easier so I have to run the 180 apart and will have cords coming off the front of my set up. Docking hoks are quite useful on this unit. All in all though, a very nice unit. As I said, I'm buying another.

"Piece of Junk!"
- Product Review by Thomas Batty
(Posted on 9/27/08)
-
Comments: Before I get to the bad let me tell you about the good. This fixture is so slim it can be used to supplement existing lighting and it does this very effectivley. I used this light to supplement my existing 260watt PC fixture on my 55 gallon tank. With this combo I was able to kept even delicate sps corals without any color loss. Ok, know the bad. The finish on this fixture is terrible. If the slighest bit of salt touches this light the finish immediatley corrodes. Also, the fan is cheap and blow out on the third day. Lastly after a few months of use all of the screws are rusted to the point where they almost cannot be removed. If you buy this only do so to supplement other lighting. Do not buy this light as your primary light because it will not last.

- Product Review by Paul Truskowski
(Posted on 9/15/08)

Comments: Nice lamp for the price. Bought it to replace the Sunlight Supply Ready Fit fixture on my 55 that blew the ballast after less than a year. It does a fine job of lighting a 55 gallon with soft coral. No need for a canopy either, this unit mounts right over the tank and looks good.

Other reviews gigged the noisy cooling fan. Not sure if it is a different model or if they changed the design, but this lamp has no cooling fan.

"Great Light"
- Product Review by Michael Tauer
(Posted on 7/20/08)

Comments: Thanks for giving me the chance to rate this light. I've got a Tek 4' 8light unit over my 180 gal reef. The sides were slightly shaded because of the 2' difference in lengths. I place two of the 24' Current Nova Extremes on each end. This has been a GREAT solution for my system. The bulbs that came with the lights are not the perfect spectrum of lighting, but that will be remedied when they need replacing.
I've placed them directly on my glass top & the corals love the light.
So far they are working great.
I would recommend them.

I wouldn't mind adding another unit to my tank in the near future! My soft corals seem to be happy as well.
My only wish is that they would make more bulb selection and offer a 4 bulb unit with individual reflectors.

Comments: Great lights, I have these running with two VHO's and my corals couldnt be happier. Right now I only have softies and LPS's. These things are very strong and powerful for the money. I am considering buying another one and replacing the VHO's with it. Good product would definitely buy again.

"Ballast dead after 4 months"

Comments: Well, after only 4 months of use the ballast blew. Was hoping for better but this seems to be my luck with both PC and T5 Current USA ballasts. I replace balasts more than I do bulbs.. So my initial review above was a first impression.

"Great little light."

Comments: Great little light. I used it on my 10 Gallon nano reef setup and has completely blown me away. I was expecting a lot less from this light. Great purchase, really bright, and wonderful colors.

I would strongly recommend this product, the light output for the watts is amazing. I was reluctant to purchase as I figured it would be a cheap light. The construction is solid, it runs a bit warm, but hasn't affected tank temperature at all. I run these guys about 10 hours/day.

Bottom line, I would have paid a lot more for these guys. Will not disapoint.

Comments: This lighting fixture made an immediate impact in my aquarium. My corrals all reacted as soon as the light went on. My spotted dragonette came out of hiding and the colors in my tank have never been so bright.
