AquaC RX-1 Calcium Reactor Information

In natural environments, such as in the deep blue sea, coral reefs have access to enough calcium that can help the corals develop their exoskeletons over a period of time. Corals absorb calcium during formation of their outer shell, which makes this chemical really important to their growth.

In artificial environments, such as an aquarium, calcium doesn't come naturally. However, a device called calcium reactor can be used to supply the much-needed chemical to the aquarium. A good and reliable brand is the AquaC RX-1 Calcium Reactor from Pet Store, which does exactly that - disperse calcium into the water tank. Note that the calcium itself (or media, as it is often referred to), is sold separately.

Aside from calcium dispersion, the AquaC RX-1 Calcium Reactor also maintains the balance of alkalinity in the water. It can also be used to recirculate CO2 and improve oxygention within the tank. The triple-purpose function of this device makes it an excellent and practical buy.

The the AquaC RX-1 Calcium Reactor is only 16 inches high, making it one of the most compact calcium reactors in the market. It takes up only a small space, yet it can be used for reef tanks with as much as a 400-gallons capacity.

The RX-1 calcium reactor represents the pinnacle in reactor technology available today. We`ve combined all the features an advanced reef hobbyist is looking for into a compact package that is easy to use and maintain. No more messing with finicky settings or inconsistent results, the RX-1 is a solid performer that will give you years of trouble-free service.

The RX-1 is rated for reef tanks up to 400 gallons in size.

Comments: Awesome reactor! This one replaced a mrc that had become leaky and difficult to keep adjusted, and right out of the box the RX-1 was easy to set-up and adjust. It holds alot of media and has a small footprint too. It dosen't require a feed pump, and the bubble counter and JG fittings make this the best reactor I've owned.

Comments: Over all a great unit. 1st one came with a 2" crack at the bottom of the bubble counter. It appeared to me that it was cracked during assembly or the stresses produced b over torquing the fitting cracked the counter. On 2nd unit I closely checked all fitting found no problems. The unit is well made with the exception of the bubble counter. I have no clue as to why they would thread the clear plastic. I will keep a eye on this area. And it it even looks like it is going to leak I will just install a PVC coupler with threads already moulded into it and go from there

Comments: I love the space saving design. It's shape fits well into rectangular sumps. Seems well constructed and sturdy with exception of the quick connect fittings, which seem a cheaper variety. Very potent is raising Ca/alk in my 180gal densely populated reef. Very easy to set up and go. I did have a leak from one of the quick connect fittings, which seem a lesser quality than the quick connect fittings I can purchase from the local home building supply store. I've owned a Coralife, and Knop reactors, and this unit is by far the best, and from a company that backs it up and has decent custormer service

Comments: I purchased this to replace a Coralife reactor. What a great new design. Small foot print for a reactor that hold an entire bucket of KNOP media. The pump did took a bit to get going, but once started, it works just fine. Mine has a couple of small cracks where the fitting enters the chamber, a quick drop of CA took care of any concerns of leaks. However, at $430, it should be more perfect. No leaks at any of the fittings as someone points out. I did test it for leak before installing in the cabinet. The standard ball valve to control effluent is coarse and don't know why they do not include needle valve type. Overall, still a plus.

Comments: All I can say is wow! AquaC does it again. This reactor has every feature that I would want in a reactor. Ultra reliable Eheim pump, up-flow design, compact size, recirculating co2 for low co2 consumption, and best of a a screw on lid. Maintenance consist of unscrewing the lid and filling the reactor with additional media. The up-flow design means no more taking the reactor off line to empty the reactor mud that settles on a normal down-flow reactor. This has been by far the best reactor that I have ever owned!

Comments: Well this is a great design for a reactor and holds a lot of media. Only issues i have is the pump is very difficult to disconnect from the system as the fittings are very tightly plumbed for space savings. Second the plumbing leaked from nearly every joint out of the box. I had to drain the unit take it apart to dry it out and use silicon on neary every joint or theaded port on the reactor. I would suggest out of the box just doing this before you even bother filling it with water. Do it on EVERY joint. Only threaded joints this did not leak from was the top lid and the two main screw joint disconnects. They used plumbing tape on the threaded joints and it did not work at all. Silicon took care of it though.
