this filter system makes perfe

I have been using this the same filter system for four years!
Having a 55 gallon Aquarium requires dedication and a good filter system!
The double cartridge system with this filter is a must for maintaining good bacteria levels in a fish tank of this size!
I change one cartridge per month interchanging between the back and front so there is only one very clean cartridge present .I have proved that the fresh carbon introduction is important for maintaining proper oxygen in the water while the other cartridge keeps hosting resistant (good) bacteria which fights the bad bacteria formed naturally from fish waste and also introduced with water changes!
Many people make the error of spending alot of effort and money trying to clear their tank water by dumping all kind of quick fix chemicals into their tank instead of understanding the science of keeping the fish healthy!
#1 never overstock an Aquarium
#2 purchase an Aqueon double filter system
#3 have a vacum hose to extract the water during your weekly water changes.
For my 55 gallon tank I vacum out 10 gallons weekly and replace with the same amount declorinated water) During this water change proceedure harmful rotting waste that elevates nitrate levels is removed at the same time.
Do not be tempted to add in any extra chemicals fish will die if over medicated! they are not decoration, but living things that need fresh water a good source of healthy bacteria without chemicals to thrive!
#4 patience and dedication!
If you are starting Aquarium you must allow it to cycle before you add fish...what you see as white cloudy water is natural and actually uncontrolled bacteria.
Until your aquarium forms a barrier of good bacteria in response to control the bad bacteria, the water in your tank will be milky white (cloudy) ...it will clear eventually!
Algae (of all sorts) is a natural response to any water system and can from time to time exibit inbalance thus overgrowth! Certain lighting systems encourage it! do not leave your lights burning constantly! turn them off at night! fish like darkness to sleep!
Algae can be removed by gently wiping or scrubbing rocks especially before your water change!
Thanks to this superb filter system and years of learning HOW to really maintain fish as living things....my tank remains crystal clear and is a beautiful addition to my home!
