Brightwell Aquatics Phosphat-E Liquid Phosphate Remover for all Marine Aquaria Information

It is easy to visualize threats to your aquarium's inhabitants when that threat is something you can see. If it is something fairly larger like debris, organisms that you can see, or parasites, it is easy to visualize the threat coming from those kinds of threat. However, the greatest danger that can be posed to your aquatic ecological system is something that you cannot see. It is chemical in nature. These are dissolved compounds in the water. Much of these come from biological breakdown. Take ammonia, for example.

It comes from the excrement of your fish and at a high enough level, it stresses out your fish so that they are more susceptible to diseases and parasites. Another key threat is phosphates that accumulate in your water. These can cause serious health problems for your fish. There are solutions to managing unhealthy phosphate levels in your aquarium, and one of these is the Brightwell Aquatics Phosphat-E Liquid Phosphate Remover For All Marina Aquaria from Pet Store. Unlike other solutions that use solid compounds, this is liquid. It is easier on your filters and also can be used on an ongoing basis.

It does not interfere with the pH level and other health factors of your water. Each milliliter of this solution eliminates one part per million of phosphate in about 4 gallons of water. If you are looking for an effective phosphate management solution, try the Brightwell Aquatics Phosphat-E Liquid Phosphate Remover For All Maine Aquaria.

Overview:
  • Begins to eliminate reactive phosphate immediately upon addition to aquarium.
  • Safe for all inhabitants of reef and marine fish-only aquaria.
  • Each ml eliminates 1 ppm phosphate in 4 US-gallons of water (250 ml treats 1,000 US-gallons).
  • Helps facilitate the removal of phosphate from aquaria during periods when dissolved organic material is abundant.
  • May be used on an ongoing basis to help control phosphate in heavily-stocked aquaria.
  • Over 50% stronger than most competing products.
  • Formulated by a marine scientist.
Technical Overview:
Phosphate, while required in miniscule amounts by living organisms for proper functioning, can indirectly negatively impact the overall appearance of an aquarium system if it is allowed to exist at a concentration measurable by most aquarium test kits (e.g. >0.05 ppm); in order for this impact to occur, other undesirable substances must be present in varying concentrations, however these substances are rarely limiting in the typical marine aquarium. Because of this, elevated phosphate concentrations, whether sporadic or chronic, should be combated. Phosphat-E enables a quick solution to elevated phosphate concentrations by binding the reactive (“free”) form of the molecule and making it unavailable for biological uptake. The resultant inert phosphate compound (a particulate) may then be permanently removed from the system via mechanical filtration and/or protein skimming. This method of treatment may be used as needed and/or on a continual basis to maintain an immeasurable phosphate concentration in a marine aquarium.
While Phosphat-E provides a workable solution to potential phosphate-related een as an alternative to proper and sensible aquarium husbandry. Aquaria with extremely-low to immeasurable reactive phosphate often appear more pristine than those in which phosphate is allowed to persist in an elevated concentration. Feeding aquarium inhabitants sensibly, limiting the use of organic-based supplements and additives, use of a high-quality synthetic aquarium salt blend, and performing water changes/replacing evaporation with purified water are all important aspects of phosphate control. Additional means of limiting phosphate are maintaining a culture of macroalgae in the system to naturally deplete phosphate and other substances, and/or the use of an effective and well-maintained protein skimmer.
Notes: Phosphate test kits may show a false-positive reading after aquarium has been treated; this is a result of the chemical mechanism by which phosphate test kits operate and does not indicate that the product has failed to perform its intended function. The higher the percentage of bound phosphate removed by filtration, the more accurate test kit readings will be.

Instructions and Guidelines:
Aquarium may become slightly cloudy when product is first applied; cloudiness is temporary and will dissipate. Read Notes on opposite panel regarding re-testing.
Basic: Determine phosphate concentration in aquarium prior to first use by testing with an accurate test kit. Add product to aquarium near a mechanical filter or protein skimmer intake at the maximum rate of 5 ml (1 capful) per 20 US-gallons daily for each 1 ppm of phosphate present in system. When used in this fashion, 250 ml treats up to 1,000 US-gallons (3,785 L). Add weekly at same dosage to maintain an immeasurable reactive phosphate concentration.
Advanced: Determine phosphate concentration in aquarium prior to first use by testing with an accurate test kit. Each ml of Brightwell Aquatics Phosphat-E will eliminate 1 ppm of reactive (available) phosphate in 4 US-gallons (15.142 L) of water. The result is an inert particulate that is permanently removed from the aquarium via mechanical filtration and protein skimming. To maximize the rate of phosphate removal, Phosphat-E should be added to the aquarium near the intake of a mechanical filter or protein skimmer

Po4 abatement

Comments: This product does work, effectively and quickly. However there are some points to consider. Brightwell generally does not indicate what chemicals are in his products, claiming proprietary. Indications are that this product is some form of Lanthanum Chloride(LaCl), which is a popular anti-phosphate for keeping pools, spas and hot tubs clear of unwanted algae. With that being said LaCl binds the po4 and as stated on the bottle will remain bound inert and non-reactive indefinately under normal aquarium conditions. The key words here are "under normal conditions" The propertys of LaCl are such that when the ph drops below 6.8 the particulates will redessolve and allow the bound po4 to be released back into your system. Normally ph this low will not be encounterd, unless something else is drastically wrong, at which point po4 is the least of your worries. However with the use of a Co2 injected calcium reactor or a sulfur denitrator, the ph inside those units could drop below the 6.8. So if you use one of these units, you will have to be advised of their affects.

Comments: Was concerned that effect on corals and fish would be negative but this product works and works quickly. I am not sure what is in it but I can attest that I have seen no negative behavior in my fish and conversely my zoos and corals opened up more when I have used it.

It works

Comments: It definitely works. The first day that I used it I added half of the recommended dose to the main tank. It did cloud the system as advertised. However, although it is "safe for all inhabitants....", some of my fish (two tangs and a marine betta) did have an adverse reaction by becoming very docile and less responsive. They did recover after a few hours when the cloudiness had cleared. Now when I use the product I isolate the main tank from the sump and add the Phosphate-E to the filter socks in the sump, maintaining circulation in the sump. Once the cloudiness has cleared from the sump I reestablish the normal circulation of the system.

Comments: I was a little nervous about using this product but I followed the directions which were simple and added it into the intake of my HOB Skimmer. I did this in the evening and the water clouded a bit. By morning the water was cleared up and my phosphate test was about .03. I have a small setup at 36 gal. Fish, snails, coral were all fine. Watch for a drop in ph and add buffer after treatment. Tank looks great. I will continue to use this product along with monthly water changes.

Comments: I had a brown growth on my white sand, the result of elevated phosphate. One dose of phostat-E and the brown gone in two days. Water changes followed and phosphate gone.

Comments: The water gets really coudy when adding this stuff. I know it mentions this in the instructions but still. Also the ph drops about 0.1 right after I add this. I'm assuming it does remove phosphates (too soon to tell), but I think I will go back to using PhosGuard from Seachem with which I had great success.
