Comments: Got the Curve 5 for my 50 gallon reef and over the last few months...Positives are: small footprint, quite, nice design, easy to adjust and after break-in (and fix noted below) it skims great. Negatives are: plastic body vs acrylic, recommended for 9.5 to 11 inches of water when it performs much better near 8.0 inches of water and it kept nearly overflowing because one of the tubes in the air silencer was too long so it was restricting the air flow. After sanding the tube it now draws the correct amount of air and works fantastic! After the fix, I am very happy with this skimmer!

Comments: I got this for my 75g and it works great in the sump. It has a little foot print for such a powerful skimmer. Trying to figure out the depth for this took a couple days but once you find the magic depth it pulls the gunk out. I just used some light grates to increase and decrease the water depth. Very easy to put together and expect to get a lot of use from it. Thank you marine depot.

Comments: As previously stated, the instructions are a joke. Lots of info with a goggle search, and having read a lot if it, I set this thing up right out of the box. Ran it in 50/50 vinegar and water for about 20 hours, then a good rinse and in my sump in 8 inches of water. It started pulling out gunk after an hour, not too wet set between the 1 and 2. Looks great, the only thing I wish was different was if the cup cover was more secured. It just lays on top. It stays in place, but if you don't hold it down or remove it when detaching the cup, it will fall, possibly break, and definately scatter some "fish poo". Easy to drain without removing the cup via the included hose and plug, as long as you don't need to clean the cup. I would definately recommend.

Comments: Got the Curve 9 for my 240 gallon reef. This was to replace my old ASM skimmer when the pump died. Was never really excited about my ASM skimmer, but it was doing a good enough job that I didn't feel a need to replace it while it was still working. The Curve 9 is big. Even though I measured before ordering, I was scared when I saw the huge box from UPS and though maybe it wasn't going to fit. I was barely able to fit it in my sump! Upon arrival, I ran it in a saltwater and vinegar bath for about 3 hours. I would have ran it longer in vinegar, but had been without a skimmer for a few days after the ASM died. Needless to say, the first couple of hours it just overflowed regardless of setting. I discovered it seems to really like 9.5 to 10 inches of water. Day 2, it pulled out a bunch of dark dirty gunk. Ever since then, it has been working wonderfully. I was a little concerned about noise, as some internet reviews said it was noisy, but mine is not, maybe they improved the pump. Overall, I am very happy with this skimmer and found this to be an excellent skimmer for a good price. My only complaint is that I don't like the valve type skimmers, as they are very sensitive to surrounding water level. I really prefer the vertical overflow pipe style skimmers such as ASM, because water level had little effect on them. For me this is not much of an issue because the skimmer area in my sump has a very stable water depth, however I can see it being a problem for others.

Comments: I have a 9.5" by 9.75" return area in my sump for my 90 gallon soft/LPS/SPS reef tank. Initially, due to the size constraints (including height), I bought a curve 5 but noticed that I had around 3" to spare so I returned and exchanged it for a Curve 7. It was easy to set up, although I used a youtube video to supplement the instructions. I ran it in my tub using tap water for around 5 minutes to check for leaks as well as rinse the skimmer prior to placing it in my sump. After minor adjusting with water height (I have an ATO) and output flow, after around 18-24 hours, the skimmer began producing skimmate. The skimmate was darker and seemed of greater volume than my AquaC Pro Remora which was my temporary skimmer. I admit that my nitrates and phosphates were both at 0 with the Remora which I wanted to replace for aesthetic reasons only so as far as output, I was hoping to at least exceed the skimmate level. The reason that I only rated 4 stars was due to the Curve 7's susceptibility to drastic sump level fluctuations. I temporarily (accidently) cut off power to the system and upon restoration, the skimmer produced around a cup of clean water due to the consequently high water level in the sump. I remedied this by plugging the skimmer into my reefkeeper and putting a 5 minute start delay for future power startups. If I didn't have my Reefkeeper, I might have considered returning the Curve and keeping my sufficient (but visible) Remora. In a nutshell, the Curve 7 is more than sufficient for my system (great skimmate, quiet, fits in small space, no micro bubbles despite being in return section, easy assembly). The Curve 5 actually might have been adequate my system (probably thanks to my large refugium). The Curve's touchiness to water level changes (I have a top off system), after power failures is the only drawback thus the 4 stars.

Comments: great protein skimmer!after I put it together I ran it in a tub of white vinegar water for an our ! Longer wouldn't hurt! Put it in , made bubbles right away! Many micro bubbles from skimmer ! Wasn't pleased about that! Bought another foam block to take care of that! The next day it was broke in!! Less micro bubbles, and it made some real dark skim mate! I have two sumps on my 220 reef tank, both eshoos, a refugium sump and a bioball sump ! Some of the micro bubbles could be coming from the refugium sump, I have one foam block on there, I need another! Skimmer does a great job for the price! I recommend it highly and its built very well! I did have a etts skimmer which my sin bought!I was bored with it and wanted a new one !

Comments: I bought this skimmer in a rush because I dropped my $350 AquaC EV 180 while cleaning and shattered the acrylic body. I loved my AquaC, but was not able to pay that price to replace it on such short notice. I did as much research as I could before finally choosing the Bubble Magus Curve 5. To say I have been impressed would be an understatement. The Bubble Magus performs just as well as the AquaC. It's quieter and fits better in my sump. Set up was easy and it only took just over 24 hours to break in. I'm rating 4 1/2 because it just doesn't "feel" as heavy duty as the AquaC, but that's probably just me being overly critical. I don't know if I've ever written a 5 star review.

Comments: It's still early on, but I'm really loving this skimmer. The build quality gets an A+, the noise level is barley there, and there are no micro bubbles leaking out into the sump. The design is very nice, solid and compact. I just plopped it in the tank just a few days ago and I'm already getting a nice tea colored skimmate. This skimmer makes my old skimmer look like trash! I would absolutely recommend this. (I'm using the Curve5 for a ~45 gal system)

Comments: I have had my curve 9 for over 2 months now. While the break in process was lengthy Im confident it is over. It is sitting in a tideline 36"sump under my 210 reef tank. I occasionally get random events where this skimmer overflows and on 2 occasions has flooded my home. 9/10 days this skimmer runs normal but it is the once in a while occasion that is overflows. One thing to note is that this is not an acrylic skimmer body but molded plastic. I regret making this purchase. I have pulled my curve 9 and gone back to my reef octopus.

Curve 7

Comments: After a day of running the Curve 7 in a vinegar bath solution, I set it up in my 75 gallon tank's sump. The tank has been cycling for a month now and it started pulling detritus out after a couple hours. Now it's a matter of dialing it in to get the right type of skimmate. Directions are terrible and need a serious overhaul, not sure why they are so bad for a company based in Cali. It's not difficult to figure out though. I think it's cool that the pump can be configured in a couple ways and that you can easily clean the whole unit because it can be taken apart. There's nothing that I can see cracking or rusting too which is great. The Skimmer cup is as big as my 3.5 year olds head!!! The Curve 7 is super quiet and my micro bubble issue from my old aqua c ev 180 is gone.
