Lifegard Aquatics Acrylic Scratch Removal Kit 72000 Information

Product Manuals & Documentation

Most aquariums nowadays are made of acrylic instead of glass. Acrylic is cheaper and lighter compared to glass. It is also much easier to mold into different shapes, making uniquely-shaped tanks possible. It is also quite durable, unlike glass that can break easily. In terms of clarity, acrylic is at par with glass. However, one downside of acrylic is that it scratches easily. The beauty of an aquarium full of colorful fish and corals may be hampered by a scratched tank. Don`t let this happen to your aquarium! Make sure to use the Lifegard Aquatics Acrylic Scratch Removal Kit from Pet Store.

The Lifegard Aquatics Acrylic Scratch Removal Kit can remove scratches from the surface of acrylic tanks through the process of sanding. Each kit comes with a crystal pad that is used to polish plastic. Crystal pads have been used for more than two decades within the aircraft business, so it is already proven to work. The crystals are abrasive, but only on scratches. A soft and thin material acts as a cushion to protect the unscratched acrylic.

Aside from the crystal pad, the Lifegard Aquatics Acrylic Scratch Removal Kit also comes with a small bottle of liquid polish, a sanding block, a flannel cloth.

Lifegard Aquatics Scratch Removal Kit
  • Removes scratches from acrylic Aquariums.
  • Crystal pad, the sanding material in this kit, has been used to polish plastic surfaces for over 20 years in the aircraft industry. The abrasive crystals are cushioned within a thin soft resilient material. This cushion allows the large abrasive crystals to recede into the soft material creating an even cutting plane.
  • Can be used wet or dry.
  • Removes scratches even under water!
  • Includes 8 different progressive grades of crystal pads, sanding block, 3/4 oz. bottle of final polish liquid abrasive with anti-static agent and flannel cloth.
  • Economical to use. Outlasts common abrasives up to 7 times in dry applications, and up to 15 times with wet applications.
  • Restores your acrylic aquarium to its original new luster!

Comments: I have had my 250 gallon acrylic tank for over 3 years and had a bunch of pesky scratches on the tank bottom from cleaning. When I finally scratched the middle of the tank in plane view did I decide I needed to give this product a try. I was a little nervous about the process since I could not remove the water or all of my fish and coral. However, the pads are really fine. They take off a small layer only. I have been using the 3200 and 4000 pads. Whatever is being sanded down has not affected my fish or corals. I have not worked vigorously on the scratches in fear to leave too much residue that would harm the fish, but I have noticed an improvement in appearance. I figure to spend 5-10 minutes every week on the scratches while I'm doing my weekly maintenance cleaning on the tank until all of the scratches are gone. I would recommend this product for those that need to fix some scratches on their tank while it's still full of livestock.

Comments: Not as simple as advertized. I don't know where all these positive reviews are coming from. I will give the manufacture the benefit of the doubt. It left a haze on a test spot that I could not get to go away. Tried twice. I will assume that in the hands of an experienced person this may work. I found it hard to tell when to go from one grit to the next. There is now a haze on my lid that will not go away.

Comments: Totally works!! It's been a week and fish are great. Was worried about them but worked under water. Didn't use polisher liquid of course. Just make sure you do every step without skipping. I skipped and had to go back which took a long time.

Comments: Wow! This works even better than claimed! For me it worked best with a magnetic algae cleaner with a decent amount of patience. Follow the instructions and you can't go wrong! Work each grade of sandpaper longer than you think you should, as instructed; and by the time you get to the finest grade your acrylic tank will look beter than new.

Comments: Great product for removing scratches from acrylic Tanks. Had several small scratches from sand on cleaning pad. They were quickly and easily removed. I did not have to remove fish and there has been no affect on corals in my tank. A little expensive but it works great.

Comments: Like so many others here, a piece of rock got caught in my mag float and it created a footlong scratch on the interior of my display tank. Based on the reviews here on this product, I decided to try it out. What appealed to me the most about this product is that you don't have to empty out your display tank to use it. I used the sander underwater and in about a half hour, the scratch was gone. The instructions are easy to follow! Use with confidence!

Comments: Results were outstanding. I used a hammerhead magnet cleaner with a 100 micron felt pad between the sand paper and felt. I used two pro scraper blades on either side of magnet and held in place by rubber bands, this provided good clamping force to hold the sandpaper in place. It took me 4 hours to repair a 300 gallon trapezoidal tank. The curved edges were a challenge. An improvement on the product would be to include a 1000 grit and make the grot pads wider.

Comments: So, my buddies wife came over and started dragging my magnet cleaner around my tank. There must have been some sand on there or something because it scratched the heck out of my tank. Talk about being bummed... I was a little nervous to try this kit but pleasantly surprised how well it worked. I couldn't get the rubber bands to work right so I just stuck my arm in and took my time (go fast and you'll lose half your tank water). Definitely happy with the results.

Comments: Wow! Those were my words after finishing with this product. I had plenty of small scratches. We had a friend over and his kid was cleaning my tank without me know using the wrong side of the magnet! I was horrified. It left so many scratches on my main display glass that I almost cried. Almost got a new tank because of it. I was looking for a product to remove scratches without draining the tank. Glad I found this product. For starters, I did this wet with all my inhabitants still inside. No change whatsoever..everything was left alone..pumps and all running. No effects on fish or corals. Here's a few tips to keep in mind if you plan to do this wet and simple: 1. Turn inside powerhead to high so that it can push all the acrylic debris to skimmer (like another poster suggested) or leave it on if you can't adjust speed. 2. Definitely use your magnet glass cleaner..(same amount of pressure will be applied while sanding and not having to wet your hand). Attach sanding paper with one rubber band on one of the side of the magnet. If you attach rubber band in the middle or use 2 rubber band on each side than the sandpaper will not make good contact with the acrylic glass. 3. Definitely start with the most coarse paper. I started with 1500 (but some may need to buy more coarse like 600-800 if they have deep scratch..but make sure it's waterproof. You can find some at local hardware store if needed). 3. Spend more time sanding with the coarse paper as the finer the grade the more it's polishing rather than removing the scratches. For example, I would sand 15-20 times in the same spot on coarse and maybe 5-6 times on the finder grade. 4. Do only one section of the tank at a time. This will help you see what you are doing. You can't see the marks the sandpaper makes underwater. However, you can look through one of your other glass to see if needed. For example, my tank is 36" long and I'm working on my main display glass. I just broke it into 3 sections and work each section
