Polyp Lab Medic 30mL Information

Product Manuals & Documentation

Medic is a highly effective treatment for external fish parasites present in both marine and freshwater environments. It contains an antibiotic component and a reef-safe oxidizing agent that work together to help eliminate parasites. It is particularly effective against:
  • Marine Ich - Crytpocaryon irritans
  • Freshwater Ich - Ichthyophthirius multifiliis
  • Marine Velvet - Amyloodinium ocellatum
Features:
  • Completely reef-safe
  • Does not harm invertebrates
  • Does not harm nitrifying bacteria
  • Buffered to maintain physiological pH
How Medic works: Many external fish parasites have very similar life cycles. In particular, these parasites have an ""attached"" stage (trophonts), a ""matured"" stage (protomonts), a ""reproductive"" stage (tomonts), and a ""free-swimming"" stage (theronts/dinospores). Most available treatments do not target the free-swimming stage of the parasite which is one of the primary difficulties in dealing with these infections.

Research with ciliated protozoans has shown that the ""free-swimming"" stage of these parasites have remarkably consistent hatching times. We have engineered our medication to be most efficient during this stage.

Our medication targets the trophont stage of the parasite but is also very effective in disrupting the life cycle during the ""free-swimming"" stage. Thus, when using the medication, hobbyists should try to maintain the highest concentration of the medication during this ""free-swimming"" timeframe - when the oxidative component in the medication is particularly effective against theronts/dinospores.

Active Ingredients: Metronidazole, Peroxide acids.

Will treat approximately 550G of system volume.

Comments: I had done a cycle of kick-ich before starting medic. A hipo tang, sailfin tang along with mild signs of ich on some other fish in my 300 gal. reef (soft corals) 31 fish that i won't list.Ran medic for 20 days as presribed with two 40 gal. water changes during. It does appear for now to be gone time will tell, I lost no fish, suprising due to the severity of the hipo's ich. Also used spectrum pellets and kent marine garlic extreme which I will continue to use.so far so good.

Comments: At first this product seems to be working. It initially decreased the visable Ich on my fish. I am nearing the 10 day period and the Ich has started to increase and become worse again. I am using the maximum dosage suggested 12 hrs. apart just as the direction indicate.

Comments: while I waited for Medic to arrive I lost most of my fish to a severe and rapid strain of ich, however I attribute saving the remainder to the Medic treatment, there were no ill effects on my mixed reef livestock and the fish that survived appear to be free of ich, quite remarkable product, just wish I had some on hand to get started earlier as I believe I would have had a better outcome, due to the severity of infestation I do not think the remainder of the fish would have survived without the Medic treatment

Liquid form works - maybe

Comments: My Atlantic Blue tang got sick with ich in my 215 gallon. I put him in my 150 gallon sump of my 400 gallon which is plumbed thru a UV sterilizer. I treated the 215 gallon (using 2x's the dose) with the liquid version of medic that I purchased around a year ago. Everything seemed like it cleared up in there but I only have one other tang in the tank (Tommini). I ordered over $100 worth of medic to treat my 400 gallon (2x's the dose). The directions say to turn off the UV Sterilizer which of course, infected my tangs in the 400 gallon. Even after treatment, my tangs still have ich. I'm so upset that I've infected my other tangs now.I have so much money invested in this hobby that even if the tangs don't make it, I will give it all up!

Comments: I have a 180 dsb reef tank ,with protien skimmer and red sea uv ocean canister filter this summer my tank temp was 84 to 88 degrees and my powder blue started flagging, the other fish all have some degree of immunity to ick but eventually all where flagging at different times, they never stoped eating . i used this product according to directions and the infection subsided and all the fish and inverts are fine . The powder blue had some ick again after the last week heat wave. i will now use the product again at double dose i would reccomend this product since it prevented a disater and controled the ick population luke the powed blue was extremly infested i had to wait for the product to arrive while the diease progressed

Comments: I had a serious outbreak of Ich and have a lot of SPS corals. I heard Polyp Lab Medic was safe for corals and I lost my prize Powder Blue Tang so I was desperate to try something. It took over two weeks to begin to have an impact but the Ich did finally clear. I only wish I had started using it sooner so I might have saved my Tang. This worked for me and it absolutely did not hurt any corals. I would recommend it!

Great at double strength

Comments: Over the past 2 years that I've had this product. I've used it on 4 separate occasions. The first time I used it, there were still a few ich spots after 10 days. When I contacted polyp labs, they told me to run it for another 10 days at double dosage and all ich spots went away after 4 or 5 days. The 3 other times I've used it, I put in a double dosage right away and the ich has cleared around the 1 week mark. They say it is fully reef safe still so i dunno why they don't just tell us to do a double dosage right off the bat. IMO it works very well at double strength but there is a LOT of the powder in the bottle so I have no problems with that. I have over 1/2 the bottle left after 4 treatments

Comments: I used this product for 10 days straight. I followed the directions on the label, removed all carbon and filters. My clown fish died and yellow tang still has ich. Cleaner shrimp is the only hope now!
