Sea Swirl 1/2 inch Wave Maker Information

Create a better current that enhances the beauty of your large aquarium with the Sea Swirl 1/2 Inch Wave Maker from Pet Store. Designed to enable the water in your tank to move back and forth in a broader way and thus create oscillating waves, this wave maker is ideal for aquarium tanks that carry up more than 180 gallons of water. Powered by high flow pumps Hammerhead, Barracuda, ReeFlo, Dart and other pumps that carry the Dolphin brand, the Sea Swirl can facilitate 5800 gallons per hour of water flow and create a half inch wave using low wattage of power. This is an effective yet energy saving wave making device.

It is recommended that one unit of sea swirl be placed in the front and the other in the read side so that the tank's aquarium water can create better swaying movements. The movement is slow and gentle but makes wave smashing sounds that mimic those in the beach area. This oscillating flow and wave sounds are good for corals and other invertebrates as they simulate their natural environment. The Sea Swirl 1/2 Inch Wave Maker is also reasonably priced and comes with a two year warranty. You will definitely enjoy watching your aquarium make great waves using this unique wave making device.

Feature(s):
  • Oscillates the return from your existing pump or canister filter 90 degrees every 60 secs.

  • Improved circulation - stimulates growth and carries nutrients to corals and plants.
  • Eliminates use of powerheads
  • Sits on top frame of tank - built in bracket to fit all aquariums.
  • Compact (5" x 7" x 2½")
  • Energy efficient (4W) motor is UL Listed and CSA Certified

Comments: I bought the 3/4 inch sea swirl for my return on my 120gal about 4 months ago. It's was pretty intimidating when you open the box and stickys on the unit and warnings all in the instructions saying "if you do this the warranty is void".."if you do that the warranty is void". BUT if you do follow the advise given the Sea Swirl works great! It truely does provide random flow. I love it and so does my tank.

Comments: We use a 3/4 Sea Swirl in tandem with an Echotech MP w40 on our 90 gl reef tank. The new Sea Swirl we just purchased replaces a unit we bought used that was a couple of years old. We find that the Sea Swirl works extremely well when located on the opposite end of aquarium from the MP w40. In fact, we have taken lots of measures to avoid heat convection from equipment into the tank, and we use AI SOL LEDS, MP w40, Sea Swirl and a Reeflo Hammerhead pump to minimize heat transfer.

Comments: Ive had the 1/2" for 4 yrs now, still working well. Initially I had 2 on a 75 gallon SPS reef splitting a 1000pgh pump, with loc-lines and inductors on each end. The sweeping action is abosultely unique among wavemakers (except the zoomed power sweep pump, which is junk). I recently installed them on my 180 SPS reef; this time I modified them by attaching tunze nanostreams 6045 (1200pgh)on the ends instead of connecting it to an external pump. This way I avoided the jet steam from the inductors, and utilized the high volume, low pressure flow of the tunzes. I tell you the turbulence it stirs up is unbelievable. In that tank I already have 2 vortec mp40s in lagoon mode and 2 tunze stream 6105s pulsating, but the crossing of the flows with the sweeping nanostreams creates tornados/vortices in the tank, swirling detritus out and teasing the polyps so that they are fully extended all the time (even in the center of large colonies). I was able to get rid of the unsightly wavebox. The sea swirl finally helped me find the flow quality and quantity Ive been looking for to sustain my tabling acroporas. It also looks really cool doing it.

Comments: Pros: Corals really like this, am using on a 90g and my tank is looking much better. Easy to install. Good quality construction, very quiet. Will be purchasing a second one. Cons: Kind of wide for a narrow tank (48x18x26). I had to push my t5 fixture back a little to allow room for this. I wish the nozzle pointed down a little more. Seaswirl recommends to install this on the front of the tank blowing back to the corals, but you have to buy a corner mounting bracket to accomplish this separately, if you have a canopy.

Comments: easy to hook up. really makes some nice turbulance as it crosses path with a powerhead that is perpendicular to it. the outflow when straight out is high enough that when power goes out it doesnt let large amounts of water to siphon without drilling a siphon break hole (which you can do if needed). the outflow is a lockline hookup so you can change it if you want to.

Comments: While this product works great,its design is really flawed. Its overpriced to begin with. Next, it can't get wet, so you're scared its going to electrocute you if it falls in. To top that you can't keep your lid on while its in operation. BTW where are the o-clamps they deem neccessary, maybe they should be included considering steep price. However, all that said; if I didn't prefer to have my lid on I might not dislike the product. It mounts sturdily, so I'm not that scared it will fall in. It also works really well, and doesn't stir up air bubbles as it functions. The adjustable water spout is nice, but needs to be longer.

Comments: I've been using the Sea Swirl for about seven years. For the money, you can't beat it for creating currents and changing the circulation patterns in your reef. I use the 1" model on a 220 gallon reef system. The only down side is that they only last for about three years before the oscillating motor seems to give out and you have to buy another Sea Swirl. It's fairly easy to install and set up and provides hassle free operation for the aforementioned three years. Then, you have to buy another.

Comments: I've had my Sea Swirl 1/2" running continuously for three plus years without a single issue or problem. It does what it says it will, reliably - I can't ask for more.
