Salinity refers to the salt content in water. Seawater has a high salinity level while freshwater has a low one. Obviously, if you have a tank full of fish that naturally live in ponds or lakes, you would want to keep the salinity level of the water low. The converse is true if you own an aquarium of fish that can be found naturally in the ocean. Whatever the case may be, it's important for you to monitor and control the salinity level of your aquarium's water according to the needs of your fish.
The Spectapure UPLC Ultra-Precise Level Controller from Pet Store can do just that. It effectively keeps the salinity level of your aquarium on a fixed level. All you need to do is set it to the level you want, and the controller will make sure it is at that constant all throughout. How does it do that? Its secret lies in little and controlled doses of replacement water or of Kalcwasser (a solution of water and calcium hydroxide that helps water keep its levels of alkalinity). Because Kalcwasser can be potent, it must be handled with care which the Spectapure UPLC Ultra-Precise Level Controller is fully capable of doing.
The Spectapure UPLC Ultra-Precise Level Controller comes with a sensor that can detect minute changes in the level of the water. In fact, you can even set the tank to either drain or fill when the level of the water changes. It's up to you to set the calibration. Once you have it set, the system remembers it until the next time you adjust it.
SpectraPure® Ultra-Precise ATO holds your tank's salinity constant while adding replacement water or Kalc in small doses. The pump can operate in either "fill mode" or "drain mode" when the water level changes. The Sensor Tube can be pre-set to operate with a minimal (0.1") change in water level up to a 4" difference. This calibration is saved even after a loss of power.
The ATO runs on a ten-second cycle. The pump can be on for any number of seconds each cycle, including zero (always off) and ten (always on). After the Ultra-Precise ATO is powered up, use the UP and DOWN buttons to adjust the ON-time in 10% steps. (This value is also saved even after a loss of power).
The pump used in the Ultra-Precise ATO is the same pump that is in the LiterMeter III™ , the leader in aquatic dosing for over 10 years. Now with our new improved, long life Peristaltic tubing. This is the quietist, most reliable Peristaltic Pump ever made.

I have used this ATO for two years now without any problems. I use it to draw fresh water from the basement and put it in the sump upstairs. It has both the water level sensor and the back up float valve as back up. It doesn't draw water very quickly but that does not matter because the sensor can be set to keep the water level very consistent.

well made product

I've had this unit running for over a year. The initial set of rollers wore out rather quickly. I was using kalk in my top off, and the tubing got clogged, setting the unit to run continuously without any liquid flowing. The manufacturer shipped me replacement rollers under warranty and it has been running perfectly ever since. Keeps the level in my sump (and as a result my salinity level) very precise. Although I switch off of dosing kalk and now use 2-part instead.

This is a really solid product it lasted for's at least four years free of any problems or any maintenance and it works awesomely. I've used the aqua med top off and it was constantly needing maintenance and upkeep. this really works exactly like you want to and to very precise. It's really easy to set up well. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to keep the salinity level within very tight margin. I use it Kalk plus and it keeps my pH and salinity levels very even.

I've had it for less than 2 weeks, it's my first ATO and works great.
pros: reliable, accurate, pump speed is controllable
con: a little unintuitive to set up
Other thoughts: expensive, but has a 5 year warantee
