"Gripper not that great"
- Product Review by Matthew Corrigan
(Posted on 3/17/11)
-
Comments: I have a 150gallon tall. I got the extra size upgrade thinking that it would be better, but the little rubber feet on the magnet take the versitility out of it. Mine came off both inside the tank and outside the tank, I guess it wasn't supposed to be used to position the powerhead. Also the adapter to the powerhead bracket isn't that tightso if you try to rotate it 90 degrees your powerhead might slip off. I probably will not buy this product for my other tanks. Great concept, poor implementation.

"Not a pancea"
- Product Review by Jay Bloomfield
(Posted on 12/7/10)

Comments: I think people are so happy to rid themselves of suction cups that they have ignored all of the drawbacks. First, for what you get, it is terribly overpriced. Second, the unit is difficult to adjust, so unless you have a lot of room to work with, forget buying it. Third, the magnets are strong (and somewhat dangerous, unless you don't mind getting pinched), but forget about using this size model on a rimless reef tank with thick glass, It won't hold. Last, if you don't have one of 4 or 5 recommended powerheads, don't bother, it won't fit.

If you meet all those requirements and most people will, then consider buying this.

Comments: These are incredibly strong magnets. I am using them on a 90 gallon aquarium and they hold a Maxi1200 with the SureFlo upgrade without a problem. Infact watchout for the pinch factor.I am convienced that these could remove a finger if given the chance. The only reason I gave them a 4 star was because of high cost.

"Had to buy another one."
- Product Review by Linda Hahn
(Posted on 1/14/10)

Comments: This is the second pump bracket that I purchased. Bought the first one to check it out before buying another one. I had been frustrated with the suction cup brackets and was pleased with this magnetic bracket. Haven't had to do anything to it, it's great to look at the tank and NOT see a pump dangling in the water because the bracket failed again. Worth every penny I paid for it.

"100"
- Product Review by German Gaytan
(Posted on 1/5/10)
-
Comments: With the 1600 mod, it made the Maxijet 1200 shake. The suction cups are no good, it got loose instantly and made lots of noise when the powerheads were turned on. Made a big sandstorm when the powerhead fell to the bottom, nothing was happy. Got the SureGrip 100, and wow. The rubber ends silence any noise that the powerhead is making due to shaking. I have a hard time taking it off from the side glass. Careful as these are strong, pinched my fingers and it hurt. My only complaint is, I wish these were cheaper.

- Product Review by Arlan Martin

Comments: Holds my modded maxijet PH in place very well. Only gripe I have with it is that it really does "grip" the glass and its not possible to position it exactly where you want by moving the outside magnet only. I was hoping I could keep my hands dry :). But it holds very well so far after a weeks worth of use.

- Product Review by Stacy Runion

Comments: Wow!!No more "sandstorms" in our tank! Almost did not buy these due to the price - sure seems high for a magnet, doesn't it?? However, we are glad we did -they are so worth it for the peace of mind! Ordered 3 more-splitting the order w/a friend who wanted some after hearing how well they work w/the maxxi-jet 1200's.Our glass is 1/2" thick and the 50's work great - they will NOT slip unless you purposely pull them apart. In fact, the magnets are so strong that you'll have to be careful not to get them close together in the process of installing - I have a blister on my finger to prove their strength. No more keeping the powerheads to a minimum just to minimize the risk of failed suction cups. Now we can use all of our powerheads and not keep throwing money at suction cups that only work temporarily at best! Fabulous product!

I tried the DIY version of magnetic holders, in the end it was not worth it, just buy these you won't regret it.

Comments: I highly recommend this product as it not only works great. it will prevent a major problem like I experienced below: Anyone should use this product if you want the powerheads to stay where you put them! Read the horror story below...

Previous suction mount failure - I mounted two Maxi-Jet 1200 with the Sure Flow Upgrades in my reef tank using the included suction cup mounts. Everything was fine until I came home one day and found that one of the suction mounts had come loose allowing the power head to point straight down. The result - it blew all of the sand base out from under the rocks, causing a complete colapse of my live rock structure.

I strongly recommend using these Sure Grip 50's Magnetic Mounts to prevent this from happening to you!

- Product Review by Joe Moore
(Posted on 9/6/08)

Comments: Algae Free Sure Grip 50 Magnetic Powerhead Holder are the best product I have ever added to my reef. They come with an adapter for every brand of unit. The small rubber feet on the magnets keep the powerheads from sliding on the tank glass. No sand storms, No shutting down the heads for cleaning, units slip on easily so changing out a clogged unit is a quick change with a spare. These holders are so good they should be required by the powerhead manufacture - It makes their unit better!

Comments: Aside from the price, this product is worth getting. I purchased 3 magnet holders for some maxi-jet pumps. These puppies are in the same position as I left them months ago. The sucker cups I had would always fail and the pumps would create sand storms. Although they are expensive, It's definitely worth it.

- Product Review by Eric Lamkin
(Posted on 5/5/08)

Comments: works pretty well. The picture shown on website is kind of bad. It 'looks' as if the powerhead is leaning slightly, or that it is a bit loose to the magnet. Not so. The magnets are strong, the connection is tight, and it aims the powerhead straight out. If the suction cups are pissing you off, just fork out the cash and get these. Its worth it to me.

"does what is asked"
- Product Review by Vincent Bordadora
(Posted on 4/3/08)
-
Comments: This product is adequate. FYI, I placed my powerhead in a hard-to-get-to spot, so I learned you really can't move it's position by moving the outside magnet. It also helped not to have the powerhead mounted yet while you choose the location because it is awkward and my maxi jet powerhead slips off the mount easily (it holds fine once in place, I'm just talking about when I'm positioning the pump).

The price is a little steep for a magnet, but it is the only alternative to suction cups. I'm glad to get rid of the suction cups mounting method.

Comments: I purchased this product because I got tired of buying new suction cups for my multiple Maxijet powerheads. The magnets work excellently. Little rubber pads protect the glass. I use mine in combination with the Maxijet modification kits sold elsewhere on this site. My only qualm is the cost. Unfortunately, there is no real competition.
Still, if you too are tired of suction cups failing and blowing your sand all over the tank. This is the only way to go.

(Posted on 9/20/07)

Comments: After seeing the size and quality of the Sure Grip 100's in comparison to its Tunze counterpart it was a no brainer which one's I would purchase. I have friends that have each of the afore mentioned. The Tunze are just an eyesore on the tank. Big bulky and obtrusive, at least in my eyes. The Sure Grip 100's are compact, yet extremely strong. Not to mention they are much cheaper than its previously mentioned counter-part. They earn a solid A+ in all categories for me: Price, construction, performance, and aesthetics. Whenever I need magnetic holders I will without a doubt purchase these again.

Comments: SIMPLY THE BEST PRODUCT I HAVE EVER USED TO ATTACH POWER HEADS
NO MORE MOVEMENT, HARD SUCTION CUPS OR FALLING POWERHEADS. I HAVE BOUGHT 4 AND PLAN ON BUYING 4 MORE. WORKS GREAT WITH MY WAVEMAKER.
