"good uv, bad hob return line"
- Product Review by Vincent Putnam

Comments: very good uv sterilizer. Cleaned up my alge problem on 90 gallon saltwater tank in 1 day. Frustrating because it could be perfect with small changes to the HOB design. As a return line it sucks. Dumps water straight down into tank like a water fall. Very loud and makes lots of annoying bubles. Also causes crazy salt creep. Would be so much better with an adjustable nozzel/ diffuser on the end. Skip the HOB hanger and use it inline.

Comments: Bought the 15 watt and also picked up a mini-jet 404 and the combo cleared my 65gal African tank in 3 days. Work awesome the setup hang really nice on the back and doesn't tank much space at all. If you have green water don't think twice buy it I made the mistake of Puting my 65 near a window and within 3 months the green water hit me hard

"Aqua UV Advantage"

Comments: Had an issue with my 60g frag tank, I have a large colloection of high end Acans and I started getting that brown jelly disease. I boguth this UV light that installs really nicely with its hanging feature. It then waterfalls back into your sump creating an oxigenating water column. The UV cleared up my water even better than I could imagine. The brown Jelly has not returned...

"Only built for small tank"
- Product Review by Dan Trinh

Comments: Over all it is well built, but the fitting a little too small 3/8 in instead of ¾ in that I need. Technically, too small for any pump return. I just leave it in the garage for back up. I couldn't replace for my current lifegard aquatics aquastep UV sterilizer. My was leak after 3 years.

Comments: This thing was the last ditch effort to get the water clear after it being green for a month. Worked wonders in 48 hours tank was crystal clear! I actually was seeing the water clear after a few hours but it did what it was bought for!
If you have suspended algae issues this is your ticket, only thing I would suggest is selling it with a 3/4 inch barb instead of the 1/2 inch it would make instillation easier.

"Simple and effective"

Comments: Unlike the aquastep, this went together quickly. I used a powerhead for a 175 gallon adrican cichlid tank. My algae and cloudiness problem were gone in two days and my aquarium is crystal clear. Only issue is that the Output lip is not wide enough to fit over the edge of my tank, so I hung it over the edge of one of my hang-on filters instead. That solution worked great as the filter caught dead algae from the output.

"Filter nut"

Comments: I purchased the 8 watt hob model unit. One thing I will say is keep it simple, I found myself running around trying to get a perfect canister filter and pump to attach this unit to which defeats the purpose of my system as I have a hob refugium plus aqua c remora skimmer . After giving it some thought I decided to just run a 1/2 inch plastic hose to a small 210 gph pump. And viola problem resolved . You will also find plastic clamps are going to be your best friend when it comes to securing your inlet from the uv to the outlet of your pump (metal clamps work but have a tendency to rust). Also make sure your uv outlet is close to the skimmers pump. I have a preskimmer box on my tank which allows me to place the outlet of the uv into the pump compartment as to make sure what's being killed doesn't float to the bottom and rot ! Then u would have to start all over again . All in all I love it makes my 38 gallon reef clear and disease free .

"Wow!! It saved my blue tang!"
- Product Review by Paul Tran

Comments: To all the naysayers out there who say a UV is optional, they probably never used one.

My 100 gallon tank had perfect water when I tested it but there seemed to be parasites causing white ich on my longnose butterfly and blue tang. Unfortunately, I did not get this UV before my longnose butterfly, two clowns, and a royal gramma perished within a week of buying them. My blue tang was on the decline and getting more ich covered each day in the 3 days I had him UNTIL I installed the UV sterilizer then in a sudden turnaround, he got better each day with fewer white ich on him and after 4 days of UV so far, he's almost fully recovered.

"A Must Have"
- Product Review by Martin Jackson

Comments: We tried everything to get clear water in our deck pond. In fact we polluted the water so much with Accuclear to try and get rid of the algae that we ended up killing some of the fish. Then we finally got the 15 watt uv sterilizer. The water was clear overnight and has stayed clear ever since.

It is a miracle.

"Great Product"

Comments: I had been having algae and bacteria issues for months. I finally broke down and decided to purchase a UV sterilizer. I was about to purchase the Turbo Twist, but then found out how prone to leaks it was. I found this and saw a lot of good reviews for Aqua Ultraviolet UV Sterilizers in general. I decided to go for it.
This product is well constructed. Thick plastic casing with a large ring around the quarts tube end and lots of tape around any areas you need to unscrew to prevent leaks. Within 24 hours my tank was almost clear. By 36 hours my bacteria problem had been taken care of and my algae issues where slowing down. I use to have to clean the tank 3 times a day. I now do it once a week. This has been running for 3 weeks now and continues to do a great job.

"so far so good"

Comments: I'm in a year long battle with bryopsis algae and Have most of it under control. I purchased the 2000+ to help me with the free floating spores. So far so good! I occasionally have had a small new area pop up once in a while and its from the darn spores floating around after manual removal, but since using the unit I have not noticed and new growths. I replaced my turbo twist sterilizer with this unit and am pleased with the small size and simplicity of the design. The easier the maintenance the more likely you'll do it on a regular basis! Just don't push too much water thru these as it will greatly reduce the performance.

Comments: I bought this unit to use in my pond, not my reef tanks.
I'm not crazy about the HOB feature, but it was easy enough to install. This unit cleared my 1500 Gal pond in two days, and the water is now crystal clear. I like the fact the bulbs and quartz sleeves are readily available through Marine Depot. The previous unit I had was impossible to find parts for, which is why I purchased this one.

Comments: It does have a 1/2 inlet the outlet will hang from the rim of the aquarium (hob). I have it connected from my filter looks clean. I have used the current usa gamma before this and it was a pain for inline compared to this. I've should have got this first.

"A few things to know..."
- Product Review by Charles Maeda

Comments: I have heard a lot of good things about Aqua UV filters, so I decided to buy this one. The first one I bought was broken, so I exchanged it. There are a couple things to know about this unit before you purchase it. First, from the description, this UV looks like it has a 3/4" barb inlet and a 3/4" barb outlet. I am not sure why it says that because the unit I received had a 1/2" barb inlet and a HOB outlet that cannot be connected to a pipe or hose. This means that all the plumbing stuff I bought to get this UV working was wasted. I had to go to HD to find a 1/2" hose with a 1/2" fitting and that was all I needed. If I had known this, I would have saved $50. I checked the Aqua UV website about this and they said that this model comes with 1/2" or 3/4" barbs... why can't they just stick with one size? Other than that, I am hoping this thing will work.
