"The best i've used so far"

Comments: at first i was a little worried about the reviews stating about the noise it makes. so i did all my research on how to quiet it down and did find a couple... but after getting the product i noticed one modification they did... they put a foam on the 1st compartment that almost silenced the equipment totally. the Spray Injection is very effective and started collecting gunk on its 1st night. it does produce microbubbles but it is definitely MICRO you hardly see them.

"Not what I thought"

Comments: Ok I take my reviews VERY seriously as they make my decisions on most purchases. With that said I have a 90g/30g refugium. I started out with an EV-120 and although it did an AWESOME job it took up alot of room in my lower cabinet. So I went to this hang on which is aesthetically pleasing. Well it didn't produce even half the skum but it ran much more quiet. After couple months it produced even less. I called Aqua C (EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SUPPORT) and they told me to try the cleanout port which this unit comes with a brush for that. Well the screw for that port was VERY hard to turn. Aqua C sent me 3 replacement screws but when I finally got around to removing it it seamed to be glued in. After getting a new one in it,it leaked around that screw. Nothing to do but put glue around it to stop the leak. I called Aqua C again and they sent me a BRAND NEW UNIT. This screw on the new unit feels and looks like I won't have this problem after installation. So in all this. Customer Service was more than helpful and I couln't have asked more from Aqua C however if you have the choice you will have 10 times better results with the EV-120.

Comments: The set up on this thing honestly couldn't be easier. I thought I was missing something but no it's just that easy. This is great for a beginner. I love the sleek simple design as well since I was worried that an hang on would be kind of unsightly but it's not at all and it really doesn't require much space behind the tank.

I'm still only in the first week of operation with the Remora. I currently have it hooked up to a new tank in which I'm curing some live rocks. So debris and die off was high and I think this really helped to bring down my ammonia levels faster. They were down to zero within the week with regular water changes.

It did start creating some foam right away but the yield has been pretty small and watery but that is exactly what you are supposed to expect in the first week or so of use as the filter gears up so I will wait and see if this improves.

The skimmer/pump combo is loud but not terrible. They also said in the manual that this will lessen after the first couple of weeks. Even if it didn't get quieter it wouldn't be cause for me to switch out the pump or skimmer for something else.

"Built Well, Reliable yet Noisy"
- Product Review by Scott Vanzo
(Posted on 1/11/12)
-
Comments: I've used the same Remora HOB skimmer for six years. Built very well, and reliable. Keeping the pump clear of obstructions is key, but the skimmer requires very little maintenance compared to other skimmers. Skimmer cup is a bit of a chore to clean since it is narrow and rectangular, but with the right brushes not bad. Acrylic lid warped a bit over the years, but still seats properly. Skimmer cup O-ring will crack and break unless kept lubed with silicone grease or similar.

The worst aspect of the skimmer is the noise. Not for a bedroom. Some people use a small piece of paper towel to muffle the injector, which helps, but care should be taken to make sure the towel does not smother the injector when it gets damp.

"Great skimmer lousy pump."
- Product Review by Andrew Dorman
(Posted on 11/9/11)

Comments: I purchased the Aqua C Remora with the Maxi-jet 1200 pump and the pre-skimmer after reading multiple reviews on various sites. The skimmer and per-skimmer made my Aqua C are great items, easy to install, and though pricey, probably the best and sleekest looking hang on skimmer available. I have only had it in use for a few days but can see it in action. Unfortunately, the Maxi-jet 1200 pump that was recommended by so many over the Rio 800 was recently redesigned by Marineland. The new design includes an impeller and a propeller. When used as a propeller to create a current, it's a great and efficient pump but when used as an impeller the pressure causes quite a racket. The noise has been unbearable I have opted to return the maxi-jet 1200 and switch to the Rio 1000 as this is the new recommendation by Aqua C. The old Maxi-jet 1200 was the better option but it is no longer available. This is shimmer is a great buy and I highly recommend the pre-skimmer as it increases efficiency, but get the Rio 1000 over the Rio 800 or the Maxi-jet 1200.

Comments: I purchased this product in the belief that I was purchasing a good product. However after following the directions and through the advice of AquaC upgraded to the 1200 power head. The noise level was totally unacceptable. After doing some research I became very frustrated. So I called customer service to hopefully gain an answer to the noise. I was told by Marineland customer service that the power head recommended by AquaC was not endorsed by Marineland.

Comments: I used a cpr backpack in my 55 gallon for 2 years. I have always been less than impressed with its performance. I first set the Remora up about 3 weeks ago. Kept the CPr running next to it. Night and day difference in how much junk is sucked out of the tank between the two. The Remora sucked more in 3 days than the CPR removed in a month literally. The backpack now lives under the tank as a spare. Only thing I see is the level of the cup is set as low a possible and I do get much wet foam still coming in. I can live with it for a cleaner tank

When I received it theninstructions said to rinse it out with warm water to get the oils off of it I did so and it has been doing its ThAng ever since. The maxi jet is a littlenloud but im hoping itnwill quiet down once the slime builds up inside. Don't waste money on a red sea or anything other type of hob skimmer this is the best

"Noise, but fixable."
- Product Review by Michael Frates
(Posted on 8/22/11)

Comments: I searched long and hard to find the right skimmer for my 29 gallon FOWLR tank. I was drawn to this product, because of all the great reviews. However, I'm the first to admit that many those reviews fault this product (at least the Maxi-Jet 1200) for being way loud and noisy. I mean really noisy. I took a chance and lost. The noise is ridiculous. I couldn't sleep in the next room at night. So. I researched the problem on the net and realized that the problem could be one of two culprits. There maybe a "lip" on the propeller; part of the plastic's manufacturing process. I checked that. No lip on my unit. I think Marineland has addressed this. I didn't see a lip at all. Then there's the "superglue" approach. I couldn't really figure out what the post was claiming to have superglued, then I realized that the magnet and the propeller had some space between. This never caught my attention, because it obviously seems to be purposely made this way. Nevertheless, that was the problem. Superglue the two parts of the impeller together. And your all set. Quit as a mouse.

Comments: I was reading how noisy this was supposed to be and almost made me not buy it. Once unpacked the skimmer is almost totally silent, the only thing you can hear are the bubbles. My maxi 1200 was defective, when I got it the impeller chattered LOUD, but I read this is a common problem, I just superglued that part that was loose and it took care of the problem. otherwise great skimmer, pulling off all kinds of crap, quiet and sleek and over all just a good buy. I had a seaclone so this is a HUGE upgrade for me. sps here I come!

Comments: to start off, the skimmer looks great. Its made of black acrylic and skims great. My only problem with it it that the micro bubbles are really annoying, but i have been told they will go away eventually. the break in period was about 5 days for me, i started getting tea colored water in the collection cup. i highly recomend this skimmer, but get it only with the maxi-jet pump. If you have the extra cash, get the pro model

"Aqua C Remora Skimmer"
- Product Review by Robert Russo
(Posted on 4/24/11)
-
Comments: I just installed my new AquaC Remora Hang-on Protein Skimmer with a 1200 pump. I have a 28 Gal NanoCube Tank. The rear chambers of my tank are too small for this pump, so I had to make a modification and remove a bit of the plastic divider between the two left rear chambers, so that the pump intake port would fit and rest in this cut-out, inside of the chamber. That way the pump can completely submerge, as it is supposed to do.
This modification also allowed the skimmer drop down enough to rest properly on the rear of my tank.
The pump has to run for about two weeks before you will see any active skimming and its a bit noisey. They say that that will subside also. I'm waiting to see.
I can't make a recommendation yet.

Comments: If you have a nano reef up to 30 gal this is the the elite of backpak skimmers. I hate to even call it that because it has the efficency of a sump skimmer and it takes up no space at all. When paired with the "Maxi Jet 1200 and Pre-Skimmer box" it creates the highest performce filtration your tank could possibly get. You can fill the pre-skimmer box return tank full of activated carbon to create crytstal clear polished water. No better skimmer on the market as far as I am concerned. Cheers to the peeps who make this one. My tank flourishes all due to your product!

Comments: My Bac Pak skimmer was well overdue for replacement and I saw many favorable reviews for the AquaC Remora skimmer, so decided on that one. I am so glad I did! I took the suggestion of one user to clean it out with white vinegar when I got it. I cleaned it out once with the vinegar and then 4 times with hot water and it started skimming after only a few hours. It was very simple to set up, basically plug-n-play. As others have mentioned it is a little loud, but I have only had it for 4 days, so it may get a little quieter in a couple more weeks as the instruction manual states. I love the sleek, compact design and the dark grey color to prevent algae buildup. I did not have any problems with micro-bubbles in the tank from this skimmer. I currently have a 45 gallon hex tank and am upgrading to a 60 gallon hex this weekend, so hopefully it will work just as well on that one.

Comments: After about a week of research, inquiring, and shopping around I decided to give the aquac remora a try for my 30 gallon reef aquarium. I found alot of good reveiws (including some on reef fourms) on this skimmer that lead me to make this decision instead of the other skimmers in this price range ($100-$250). I got my skimmer within a week, rinsed it out as the manufactures instructions to remove oils from the manufacturing process, and hooked it up. I noticed it's quality of construction and design out the box. it started producing skintimate within an hour or two and within the first week the quality of skintimate increased. It now runs and produces a cup full of black, pungent dry foam daily. the noise level of it dropped considerably within the first week and it nows runs just as loud if not quiter then the bio wheel hang on back filter currently running on the tank as well. I would recomend the maxijet powerhead over the rio, i've never personally owned a rio but i've heard they don't run the remora as well and mine having the maxijet I wouldn't want to change anything about especially downgrading to a smaller pump as this would mean less bubbles in the colum. my 30 gal is pretty heavily stocked and the water is crystal clear just be sure to clean the skimmer and colection cup often and it runs itself. It's collection cup is kinda large compared to most hang-on-back skimmers which is a plus. wonderful product i'd recomend to anyone as long as it suits your tanks size and bio load. a awesome alternetive to the varieties of brands sold at my lfs

Comments: once i ordered it i got it literally the next day plugged it in an hour after it came to the door and a few hours later it was building up some nasty stuff in the collection cup. for the price i could not be more satisfied . it makes a bit of noise but for the amount of gunk its pulling out who cares. also it does not take up that much room inside the tank and does not look all that bad hanging off the back.

Comments: The unit only produced micro bubbles for 2 days and then collected tons of scum.Just follow simple directions for set-up and maintenance The maxijet . 1200 seems to do the job. I changed from a 50 gal Uniquarium to a 50gal glass tank with a Fluval 305 canister filter. With in 3days water was crystal clear, the fish and tree corals seem healthy and content. The Birch Aquarium at Scripps suggested this would be a good choice especially for a hang on..........

Comments: I had bought (or was sold) a Coralife 65 by my LFS. I am setting up a new tank and have not had a marine tank for about six years. My last tank used a prizm skimmer which worked pretty well, but I lost it.

The coralife did not work well at all. It made tons of microbubbles, overflowed, and basically was crap. My LFS uses them a lot, but as a sump. I was using it as a hangon. I ran it for about 2 weeks and it never started foaming. Very poor quality.

So, I ordered the Remora. It was way easier to set up and did not make all the bubbles. After about a week of break-in, it started making green foam. It is an elegant, simple design and has no flaws. I am extremely happy with it.

Comments: The Remora is a bit loud, even after a week of running. There isn't much room between the glass and the pump, so installation of it was a bit difficult, I'm not sure if there would be enough room for the separate overflow top skimmer.

It makes good foam, though, and if you don't have a sump, like me, It gets the job done.

- Product Review by Cynthia Traxler

Comments: Not as efficient as my last skimmer (a oversize Corallife venturi style model), but works adequately and was a LOT cheaper. Also - lots less to go wrong with this unit and
easier to set up and clean. I read all the reviews before buying this skimmer and was worried that it might be noisy, but it definitely is not. It doesn't take up much real estate in my fairly small tank, so that is another bonus over the old skimmer. Takes a full 7 to 10 days to really start skimming so don't worry during that first week.

"AquaC Remora Protein Skimmer"
- Product Review by Dan Jimenez
(Posted on 5/17/10)

Comments: I was overwhelmed with options when it was time to purchase a new protein skimmer after my last skimmer died. After reading several reviews on a multitude of protein skimmers in the $200 price range I finally settle on the AquaC Remora with a miniJet 1200. I based my decision primarily on three factors, innovative design, price, and other reviews. Most reviews were highly favorable and ultimately that had the most influence on my decision. Now that I've have the AquaC skimmer attached to my tank for approximately a month and can't say enough good things about it. Operationally it is superb! It's quite, efficient, sleek, and super low maintenance. Compared to my old skimmer the AquaC Remora is light years ahead in performance. I am extremely please with the product and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a competitively price unit that is low maintenance and super efficient.

Comments: I was going to use this on my 17 gallon reef tank. I got the skimmer box, maxi-jet 1200, washed it all, setup, ran for a month, nothing was produced other than a smattering of light white foam.

If you search forums for this skimmer, everyone is trying to mod it and get it to make a decent skimmer. Nothing short of a Mag 3 drive would make any difference. I used PVC pipe fittings to make a larger intake nozzle on the skimmer to plug the pump into, no improvement.

Ordered the Deltec MCE600 HOT skimmer. WOW, the chamber is full of this milky white fluid, I'm not sure what it is, I have never seen it on my remora, sarcasm. The micro bubbles the deltec makes puts the remora to shame. This AquaC Remora should be discontinued as an ineffective product. Save your money, get the Deltec.

Comments: I have a small Hexagon 20 gallon tank and I was having a hard time finding the right skimmer. The Aqua C Remora started working from day 1. It not only matches every thing with its sleek black design and doesn't take up much space at all!! I only had 4" of clearence from back of tank to the wide opening on the top. The Remora took up only 2.5" of space. It really sucks up the gunk also. I think the biggest sell for me was all the research I did at WET WEB MEDIA.com they rated this skimmer very high and if any of you know who Dr. Fenner is (Aquarist goo-roo) He highly recommends this skimmer. Don't waste your money get the Remora!!

Comments: I installed my AquaC Remora Hang-On Protein Skimmer with the MaxiJet 1200 pump 1 week ago today, and I just dumped the collection cup for the 3rd time!

Most people said there would be a break in period of about 2 weeks but you could speed this up by rinsing out the skimmer with hot water- I filled and scrubbed it about 3 or 4 times before hooking it up, and it seems to have done the trick!

I started with the skimmer in the lowest position (wet skimming) just to see what would happen at about day four I had a full cup of skimmate, mostly clear though. I moved the O ring down (lifting the cup) and the next day had another full cup of a murky yellow green skimmate. I have continued to move the O-ring down to experiment with the skimmate and see what type of skimmate there is coming out of my tank.

My Bioload- 28 gallon bow, 30 lbs live rock, 4 damsels, 2 feather dusters, peppermint shrimp, and various clean up crew- snails etc.

SIZE- The skimmer itself is big, but not a detraction for the item. It hangs on my tank perfectly, with such a small tank I have no room for a sump under the tank so I needed a hanging skimmer. And it does have a relatively small requirement for tank edge space, which is a plus, and the return only comes inside the tank about 1/2 inch, then there is the 1 inch intake pipe for the pump.

SOUND- It is kind of loud, as most other reviewers have pointed out, but AquaC and others say the sound should lessen over time. This is not a particular issue for me due to the tank's location in my house. Its just a gurgling noise from the bubbles.

"Remora with Maxi-Jet"
- Product Review by Charles Faust
(Posted on 2/3/10)

Comments: I've had this skimmer for almost a year & it works great. It is a little noisy, but not too bad. The collecton cup height is adjustable via a heavy duty rubber band (sounds cheap but works well), which allows you to adjust how much skimmate the thing pulls out. I never had a probem with micro bubbles others have complained about. I also purchased the skimmer box built for that & it works well. It hides the pump, skims the water off the surface to send through the skimmer, and the output goes through the box which can eliminate the bubbles if any. It's bulky inside the tank, but worth it to me. This skimmer has definitely worked better than any venturi type I've ever had. It's pretty sturdy, and extremely easy to keep clean. One of the best investments for my tank I've ever made! I am happy to recommend it.

Comments: Have had it breaking for almost a week now. Its still giving me some micro bubbles and I have yet to be able to get any foam in my collection cup. Part of this might be because I dont really have any bio load, just a bunch of LR and sand with a few crabs.

I wish they make a better way to mount this thing and the pre filter box. Everything just depends on gravity to stay in place.

"Excellent Protein Skimmer!!"
- Product Review by William Phillips Jr.
(Posted on 12/8/09)
-
Comments: This is an excellent protein skimmer with the 1200 maxi-jet. This is QUIET, and the instructions say that it will get even quieter as it breaks-in. The pump/ skimmer is extremely quiet right out of the box. I am still trying to get the skimmer cup adjusted to the proper height so it does not fill with too much nasty water and just dirt, but that is just normal adjusting needed for this model. If you are looking to buy a side of the tank hanging protein skimmer this is the one, and I would also recomend the pre-skimmer as well. It will help cover up the ugly pump hanging in the back of your tank, and also eliminates micro-bubbles and gives you another chamber for filter material.

Comments: Great skimmer, very effective. At first the skimmer was very loud and produced very wet skimmate. After a week it becomes exceptionally quiet and produces some good gunk. Extremely easy to set up, took about 5 minutes for it to be up and running on the tank. requires little maintenance and very easy to clean. Great product

"Overall Great Product"
- Product Review by Becki Moran
(Posted on 10/12/09)

Comments: Although it is a bit noisy it does perform well. My ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels are at 0. A lot of people complained about microbubbles but they are barely noticeable. The pump is ugly and is not well integrated into the design of the product but I suppose that's the next best thing to housing it in a sump. This skimmer is made from solid construction and won't leak (which is one thing I was concerned about with a hang on back skimmer). The only adjustments needed on this skimmer are moving the collection cup up/down.

Comments: I have only had it for about 4 days, but this thing has been working great. I do wish that it could be adjusted to be a little drier, but that should get better with time as I get more of the gunk out of my water. Easiest to setup I have ever owned.

"Great Skimmer"
- Product Review by Kathy Andrews
(Posted on 8/13/09)

Comments: I have used this skimmer on and off for about two and a half years. I use it on a 40 breeder with a 10 gal refugium. With the 1200 pump it came with it works extremely well. It does produce microbubbles. The attachment they sell is difficult to install and adjust, but once its there it does work, its just above my frustration level and now its part of my graveyard... I decided to install a refugium in part because of this item to relocate the pump and deal with the microbubble problem. Now I use a 900 pump because for this size tank it didnt seem necessary and the 1200 pump seems to use more than twice the electricity and create extra heat. The O ring adjustment is interesting to say the least but after using it, im really happy with it. Fine adjustments to the height of the cup are easy with a little tinkering, and I havent adjusted it in so long (over 2 years), that I really cant remember what it was like. You do have to set it pretty high though, the picture is not realistic. The O ring is finally starting to crack enough to get a new one. If that bothers you, you can use silicone on it, but I dont use it on this one because I dont want anything to mess with foaming. If you are not definitely going to use the drain fitting dont get it because it reduces the amount the cup can collect and its just something else to go wrong, also it can get in the way if you need to set the cup very high (my o ring is right to the fitting). Now I have an eheim foam filter on the pump strainer, to keep it extra clean and help keep the copepods out, and I only have to run it for 5 hours twice a day. It always skims until it stops foaming in that 5 hours time. It is noisy though and that is one of the reasons I turn it off so much. If I was going to run it 24 hours a day I wouldn't use it on this setup. I cant remember how long it took to break in, but I can say if I add a new foam filter even if I wash it and wash it, it takes days for it to begin to foam again. It is extremely low

"Great Skimmer"
- Product Review by Andrew Girgen

Comments: Pros:
1. Fits very well in the center back chamber of the BioCube 29 (what I have). If you are using the stock hood, you will have to make some cuts, if you are topless it goes in with no mods.

2. Produces some really gunky, dark skim. I'm currently pulling about half a skimmer cup full per week. I only have one fish in my tank, but lots of inverts and coral.

3. Once you get it dialed in, you wont have to mess with it again, other than cleaning etc.

Cons:
1. Was very noisy at first. I stuffed a rag into the 1st chamber which quieted it down considerably. Now that it has been running for about three weeks, it has gotten very quiet even without the rag. I'd say it's about as noisy as any other compact, HOB skimmer I have used.

2. Micro-bubbles. It's not as bad as some I have seen, but they are present. I think that bubbles are unavoidable with a HOB skimmer. I'm going to try and fab some sort of bubble trap in the near future.

3. It took quiet a while to break in. In the first two weeks It was pulling almost a full skimmer cup of light green colored water every day (wet, diluted foam). Due to the lack of filtration during this time, I encountered quite the alge bloom. Be careful with the initial install and maybe reduce feeding until this thing gets going 100%. Now that it has been running for about three weeks, it produces very dry foam which settles to dark brown (cola colored) thick liquid.

All in all, I think this is a great skimmer for the price. I spent quite a while doing research before I purchased and I have been very happy with my decision. Just be ready to deal with the noise, endure a longer than normal break in period and the bubbles. The bubbles are my reason for rating only four stars. The other cons I mentioned are only temporary and will go away.

"skeptical at 1st but not now!"
- Product Review by Jose Alvarez

Comments: I bought this unit along with the skim box replacing a RedSea Prizm. (which leaked, was noisy, filled with algae and did not work correctly.)

At first the skimmer took a little thought in putting the skim box together. Once put together it was noisy sounded like the drain at the dentist office. After reading the reviews on this site. I found the solution. Take a paper towel and cover it over the intake pipe inside the skimmer sealing it. Took 95% of the noise away. After 4 days it "kicked" in and now is skimming a little wet green foam but adjusting the cup upward takes care of it.

It is now perculating foam skimmate. The water is crystal clear and the skim box with some adustment skims off the surface. You have to watch the water level is the pump does not dry out. Other then that it is well worth the price and I am very satisfied.

Comments: I've been using this skimmer for two weeks now. It started skimming properly the first day! There was none of that waiting period that you usually go through with skimmers to get them skimming properly. This is the thinnest HOB skimmer I could find and I am very pleased that it works so well. It is a tad bit noisier than I had wanted, but it works so well and so efficiently that I can't really complain about it.

Comments: I have this skimmer on my 65 gal. Is been three weeks now and I must said that is working fine. I have to empty the cup every other day. The extra box, to help clean the surface... did not work for me. It keeps falling down and I been having some difficulties adjusting it to the maxi jet 1200. Sometimes is too high or to low..... They need to go back to the design table and play some more with it. I don't have any complains in reference to the noise, but my biggest complain is the micro bubbles. My tank has become a big glass of 7up. I have come to the point of having it run with a timer during the night and have it off during the day. I read that it would stop doing this after a while.
I hope it will some day...... and them i will rate this product a great.

Comments: I purchased this to put on my jbj 28 gallon and all I had to do to make it fit was to grind one little groove in the center lip of it. Every other skimmer I found you had to do mods to the tank which I definately did not want to do. I was worried about the noise that everyone said it makes, but it was very noisy for the first 4 days and then it got quieter than the factory skimmer pump. After 4 days it kicked in as they said and I've been having to empty it every other day now with some of the nastiest skimmate I've seen. Water looks fantastic now.

Comments: I never have had the drive to write a review about a product before, but this skimmer is amazing. I had read that is noisy, compared to my red sea this is silent, I have the tank in my living room. It took some time for it to break in and start producing skimmate but once it did I have to empty it at least once a day. I love it, if you want a great skimmer for hob I cant say a thing bad about it.

Comments: I bought this a few days ago for my 15gal reef with 10g sump. After spending a few weeks reading reviews I decided to check it out. It was out of the box and operational in less than 10 minutes and to my amazement started filling the collection cup with brown/green liquid within hours. After a few days and some very easy adjustment it is now pulling a constant supply of gnarly dry skimmate out of my tank. Well worth the money, super easy set up, it definently lives up to its reputation.

Comments: I have a fairly new FOWLR tank which has been cycling about 10 weeks now. I did several weeks of research before purchasing a skimmer. Read many reviews from many sites and had picked the AquaC Remora from the many choices. I have to say that most of the reviews were correct. All I did was read the instructions, clean the unit, plug it in and away it went. After 2 days I had an inch or so of nice dark brown skim in the cup. No fooling around with the pump or nozzle like most skimmers I had read about. This was the top end of the HOT skimmers but well worth the price. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a hang on skimmer. Don't let yourself be swayed by price. You get what you pay for and this was well worth it.

Comments: This is a great HOB skimmer for my 50 Gal reef. Assembly/installation took about 5 minutes, and it was up and running. Two days after install I start getting large quantities of skimmate in the chamber. I do not agree with some other reviews this unit is noisy - it's not. It has the typical "hiss" if any skimmer but not at all annoying. The manufacturer even says it'll quiet down even more after a week or two. I would highly recommend this but IMO, be sure to get at least the Maxi-Jet 1200 pump (not the 800) for optimal flow and venturi bubble creation. Great product!

Comments: Very easy to set up. Started producing foam right away. LOUD! This thing is really loud. Got a bit quieter over the first week, but not enough. I did the little paper towel over the first chamber mod and, voila, quiet as a mouse. The folks at AquaC need to adjust their design a bit because almost every review mentions the noise. The paper towel is an easy fix, however. I'm very happy with the product now that I've reduced the noise.

"Nice small-tank skimmer"
- Product Review by John Birgerson
(Posted on 11/15/08)

Comments: I'd heard this is HOB skimmer of choice for a small tank; now that it's been running for a few weeks, that assessment seems to be true. It's easy to set up and very effective, pulling wet foam out by the third day. My nitrates were always low, now they're barely detectable. It's also thin, great for tank placements with very little room behind the back glass. Quality of materials is obvious - it's a solid piece of equipment. Not exactly a quiet one though. The spray noise isn't intrusive once you're used to it and it's broken in, but do not expect silence.

Comments: I have had this set up for about a week now. After only 2 days it started to produce wet foam. Now, after a week its producing a more dry foam and a LOT of it. I have to clean it 2 a week because it works great. My old skimmer gets negative 5 stars compared to this one. I would rate it a bit higher but its pretty noisey. Its in my basement and cant hear it over the TV but without the TV on its pretty loud. Hopefully after 2-3 weeks it gets better. One note to the company...please provide better instructions. The ones it came with are horrible. I ended up searching on the internet for a picture of it assembled.

Comments: I've had this skimmer for a few years and it still works great. The Rio pump was very noisy and didn't last as long so I replaced it with a different brand. The only downside is that there are tons of microbubbles that are released back into the tank. I would recommend buying a bubble trap in addition to the skimmer. Good skimmer for the price though, I would recommend it to friends!

"Reviewed, purchased, love"
- Product Review by Jase Nations

Comments: This skimmer i intended for one of my 29g reef tanks. I did ALOT of reading and reserch on how people liked it. I had tried two other brands for this size of a tank and it was a no go. I decided to purchase this skimmer with the max 1200 pump and the surface skimming pump housing box. I LOVE ALL THREE. Especialy all three together. let me explain. 95+% of all protiens worth skimming are at or very neer the surface of your tank thus the surface skimming box realy does aid and increese the efectiveness of the protein skimmer you are buying for its exceptional skimming ability. why decrease its effectivness by not paying the extra 20 bucks. Plus a huge plus you can buy a 1.50 nylon bag, fill it full of your favorite filter media stick it in the right compatment that catches the outflow before flowing out the bottom , activated carbon in mine for a few reasons, and bam! you have a very nice secondary filter with no doubt a higher capacity than your real filter. Second Hands down the Max 1200 pump is mch better than the 800 version. just read the reviews of people that purchased the 800. In my experience the 1200 is the perfect size. Which brings us to the skimmer itselfwith the surface skimming box add on activated carbon in the outflow and a few days micro bubbles are non existant.some noise as with all skimmers in this range however once again a step above the rest there is someting you can do about it. time.. two to three days noise is down 50%. Mod.. a plastic piece over the out flow and thats it.Skimming power?? non like it. ive tried others. and with the box very low profile non clutered look. In my oppinion and as I read many others there is not a beter skimmer for this size and this price range. top of the line. it picks up the slack of all other skimmers. When you have thousand of dollars into and a lot of time love and work in rare corals or just starting out its the only choice. special thanks! The other only choice

Comments: I had purchased a AquaC Urchin for my other tank and it has performed well. So when I was in need for a new skimmer for my aquapod 24 I bought the Remora. I have had this running for a little over a week, it started producing a wet skimmate almost immediatly. It is very load at first, but as the directions say it will quiet down over time and I have noticed a difference this week. One week later and although not producing as much gunk it is almost black, and appears to be working extremely well.

"protein skimmer"

Comments: I'm new to protein skimmers. I tried a seaclone and after two weeks... no foam. I read about the aquac so ordered it. It was easy to install and by the third day I started collecting foam. My fowlr has a "crisper" appearance but I'm still hoping I can get my nitrates below 20 for the first time.

"good skimmer.."
- Product Review by Jason Williams

Comments: Had the skimmer for 2 weeks now. The first few days were rough, tons of micro bubbles and lots of noise. After two weeks the noise is down to pretty much nothing. Still have micro bubbles but not that many.

Produces a good bit of wet skimmate. If adjusted you can get dry skimmate but it takes alot of fine tuning.

Overall: Good skimmer if you don't mind a small amount of bubbles.

"Good Skimmer -But Loud"

Comments: This is a good skimmer. I saw wet waste in the "Waste Cup" the first day it was turned on. It totally out perform most HOB Skimmer in the market.

If you're looking for a quiet skimmer, this is not the one. Do not listen to other people saying this is a quiet skimmer because it is not "QUIET" at all. It does get more quiet over time (at least 2 weeks), but you can still hear the skimmer even if you turn on the TV.

This is a good Skimmer, but it shouldnt be advertise as a quiet skimmer. It does a good job at cleaning the water.

I would recommend this, but not as a quiet skimmer.

"nothing can compare"

Comments: amazing skimmer. compared side by side with others (seaclone 100, prizm skimmer pro deluxe).

this beat them both. its a bit loud...not any louder than the others but putting a plastic cap over the left side of the intake underneath the colection cup makes it queter than a powerhead running.

another great thing about it is that you can literally put your aquarium heater inside of it on the water return...get rid of some of the stuff in your aquarium.

Comments: This is the first protein skimmer I have ever owned, seems to be working well. It has been running for several weeks now and has kept my tank clear.
