AquaC Remora Hang-On Protein Skimmer with Drain Fitting Information

Inhibit algae growth and other unwanted marine organisms in your beloved aquarium using the Aquac Remora Hang-on Protein Skimmer from Pet Store with drain fitting, no pump. This product does not have a pump and its drain fitting is optional in the package. Going further, this protein skimmer by Aquac is created from translucent acrylic that has a gray color. Its design and structure is made to make the skimming process fast but effective. Aside from that, the materials that were used to create it are strong enough to withstand long hours of usage.

This product by Aquac is an ideal fit for aquariums with a tank size of 50 to 120 gallons. It is 22 inch tall, 7 ½ inch wide, and 3 ¼ inch deep with a minimum tank opening of 6 ½ inch by 1 inch. Moreover, the package also has a nylon cleaning brush, which is very convenient for pet owners.

Moreover, the Aquac Remora Hang-on Protein Skimmer with drain fitting, no pump can be adjusted if you want it to level with the tank’s back. You can do this by adjusting the two screws located at the skimmer’s base. With all these desirable features of this skimmer, what should hold you back in purchasing it?

Good Buy Product Review by PFC THOME (Posted on 2/26/14)

Excellent!

Comments: I was very skeptical of this from the mixed reviews, listen to me, this is an excellent buy. if you buy the one that does not have the drain fitting you are wasting your money and you will only be the cause of your own demise. the first day or so it will pump a lot of water so put the drain hose right into the tank. after a week it skims dark green/brown sludge. a lot of people said it runs super loud and that was very true the first week, however now my flo pumps are louder than the suction. i dont have any insight on the other pump, i bought the MJ 1200, but thats my preferance, i trust MJ and they work great for me. If you are curious this is a great skimmer for the JBJ 28 gal nano cube however you must remove the plastic holder in the back(no big loss) like all skimmers the tank size is always way larger than what the skimmer can handle so i would not suggest this for anything larger than a 40 gal with an excellent clean up crew. I would say this is a must have if you own a nano cube.

One of the best for it's size Product Review by DAREN (Posted on 2/26/14)

Excellent!

Comments: Have this on my 20g nano and it works great. Love the drain fitting. This thing really pulls out the waste. Have it draining to a 1L bottle and all I can say is eeeewwwww nasty!!

Biocube skimmer Product Review by GREG F (Posted on 2/26/14)

Great!

Comments: I added this to a 29 G Biocube which is mostly stocked with coral. It is SLOW to break in, but it is clear that it will be a good solution as soon as that break in cycle is done and I am done fine tuning it. Spend the extra couple of bucks and get the drain fitting, it will probably save you grief during the adjustment phase.

Another great AquaC skimmer! Product Review by JAMES EDMONDS (Posted on 2/26/14)

Excellent!

Comments: I have used the AquaC EV-180 on a larger system, but have a smaller 30 gallon tank now, and had to get this Remora. This skimmer is great! The first few hours were a bit noisy, and small bubbles (aka "micro" bubbles) were common, but hang in there! After the break-in, it quiets down some (but it's still not quiet; I wish I could give dB data), and the bubbles go away, although I didn't find them disconcerting in the first place.

This thing is loud... Product Review by HARRY BROOKS (Posted on 2/26/14)

Comments: My AquaC Remora got here this past Monday. I write this on Saturday morning, five days after setting up the unit.

Set up was simple. Fit the pieces together and plug it in. As the instructions directed, I rinsed the unit thoroughly with hot water. My unit came with a drain fitting. Starting the unit was postponed by one day, because I had to go to Home Depot to get some 1/2" vinyl tubing.

The directions say to run the drain fitting tube back into the return - not to an external container. This, because the pump could pull a lot of water out very quickly. This gives me pause; if the skimmer is pulling out waste products, is it wise to drain the waste water back into the aquarium? I don't know the answer. Maybe if it pulls water that quickly it is not accumulating waste?

Within 5 minutes, the unit was making foam. But after 1 hour of use, it stopped producing foam. It has not produced any at all in 5 days. I can see the bubbles inside the skimmer, but they are not thick enough and break down too fast to collect. I have adjusted the waste cup at all levels with the same result. Some reviews say it'll take a week or two before collecting skimmate. We'll see.

Lastly, this thing is loud...very loud. I have he unit set up in the family room in a two story house. At night, I can hear the unit clearly from the master bedroom - up one story and on the complete opposite side of the house, In the evening, I have to turn it off - it is so loud, we can't watch the TV without cranking the sound to ridiculous levels. My hope is that it quiets down after a week or two - it is so loud, I wont use it if it does not quiet down. I've read about some mods that help with the noise, perhaps I'l try that.

This review is likely premature. My hope is that in 2 weeks time, I have an excellent review. I removed one star for the loud operation and another star for the lacking directions.
