"It works on Green Algae"
- Product Review by Howard Cooley
(Posted on 2/8/12)
-
Comments: I have have used it in my 100 gal. Reef, in my R/O collection tank, and in my salt mixing tank when needed. It weakens green varieties so they can be scrubbed away easily. In recommended dose it does not bother red slime at all. At 4 times the recommended dose it cleans up all signs of algae overnight but I would not do this in a tank with inverts or corals. Strong solution is Much better than using fresh water or chlorine products. No rinsing or worry about your creatures.

Comments: Have a thirty gal Reef with five fish, three shrimp and several soft corals for just about a year now.

Maintain almost pristine with regular changes, protein skim, and filters, but have been plagued and aggravated with algae, hoping that snails, crabs, etc would be of help.
Finally decided to go "Chemical" and this is the tenth day with absolutely no sign of algae growth and fish and shrimp and entire population happy and almost as happy as I am.

Great product and thanks so much!

Comments: i recently upgraded to a 180g display tank with 100g refugium. total water volume about 230g i was fighting hair algae for about 9 months and im not talking a little here and there 125 Lbs of live rock completely covered i scrubbed the rock 2 times prior to algae fix and it came back quickly. this time i scrubbed the rock and dosed algaefix 25ml every 3 days for 3 weeks. and not a trace of hair algea for the last 3 months. the product does not work on red slim algae though thats easy with a little red slime remover. i have recomended this product to everyone. AND IT DID NOT HARM MY MACRO ALGAE IN REFUGIUM.

"Great Product"
- Product Review by Larry Rosolowski
(Posted on 11/17/10)

Comments: Tried everything, including other brands of Algae remover. None worked and I was desperate. Treated my 28 gal nano with this product. I have applied 4 doses and the green hair is declining and dying. No ill effect on coral fish or inverts. Can see my rock again and the coral is doing much better in just a few days of not having to compete with the HA.

"AlgaeFix Marine - New Wonder!"
- Product Review by Joseph Nichols
(Posted on 10/6/10)
-
Comments: This product works great on most nuisance algaes, however not all of them (such as bryopsis). Luckily I had a common hair algae which just would not go away even with an ULNS in place and cleaning rocks etc. AlgaeFix Marine took about 7 doses to rid my tank of this nasty inhabitant, and no effect on corals. A common problem though, which I too experienced, is a mild case of cyano on the sand bed. Close watch and maintenance will take care of this in no time though.

I would give it 5 stars, except the directions on the bottle aren't very thorough. Could be more descriptive and detailed (mentions nothing of discontinuing GFO, carbon etc).

Overall, a great product in the short-term, but it will take some time to determine long-term results...

"api algaefix"
- Product Review by Dean Craft
(Posted on 9/11/10)

Comments: I have used this product in my outdoor pond for several years. It most definitely eliminates very aggressive string algae with no apparent fish or plant mortality. Because of the positive pond result I have very carefully and cautiously started dosing my reef aquarium because of totally irksome "brown snot algae." I did so only after trying a myriad of commonly recommended traditional methods. I am very hesitant to introduce any chemicals into my natural reef system so I am dosing at 1/5th the suggested level. The results have been very impressive. I have been keeping marine aquaria on and off since 1973 and do not try anything as a quick fix!!!

Comments: The closest thing to a miracle product that I've encountered. I tried everything to rid my 58-gallon reef tank of algae, even scrubbing and quarantining live rock! Nothing helped, even though tests for nitrates and phosphates read 0. Bought this out of pure desperation and saw immediate results. Tank is now clear and I'm enjoying it again. You'll read lots of stuff about this one the net. Just buy it. Use it as directed. It works.

Comments: I have a 100 gallon tank, and I could not control the green hair algae. I decided to give Algaefix Marine a try. It started working immediately. No adverse effects on my fish. The algae started to disappear and with the help of a bush, the algae is almost completely gone. One capful for my tank every 3 days and it looks like my problem is gone. This bottle will last a long time. I can now see my live rock!

"Works at a cost"
- Product Review by Mathew Edstrom
(Posted on 6/23/10)
-
Comments: For every action there is a reaction. I used the product at instructed doses for a couple weeks without any change to my green algae, red slime or animals. I increased the dose by 50%. The green algae did die after a week but so did my serpant star and a small pink anemone. A few of my turbo snails also died, but not all. The green algae is gone but the red slime has taken off like crazy (maybe due to no competition or increased levels due to other algae death) I have used other products to remove red slime it in the past, but this does not seem to be very affective agains it at the recomended doses.
So my final conclusion is that the Algaefix does work, but at a cost. The directed doses don't seem to be enough to remove anything. This may be better suited at controling than removing.

"Excellent !!!"
- Product Review by Nicholas Martin
(Posted on 6/10/10)
-
Comments: I was fighting Dictyota for 6 months and could only get to the point where I could stop it spreading further. It's a nightmare of an algae that spreads rapidly and thrives even in excellent water conditions.

For six months I tried to get to the root of the problem. Checked my chemistry weekly, water changes, blasting detrius from rock, rinsing food, feeding less, reduced lighting period, changed all my lights, changed all the filters on my RO unit, ran Rowaphos in a reactor and changed twice a week, ran carbon, tried various CUC but nothing touched it.. Couldn't get rid of it. Read that a Double Barreled Rabbit fish eats the stuff (couldn't find one) and a Naso Tang (tank is too small). Out of desperation I thought I'd try this stuff. I don't like quick fixes, especially chemicals, but I was out of ideas.

I doesed as per the instructions and syphoned off any loose stuff just before the next dose. After 3 doses I noticed it was receding. After 6 or so it was almost gone.

Now I'm at the stage where I can stop dosing and just perfrom the normal husbandy to keep on top of things.

Great stuff, really does work !!!

"Hopeful"
- Product Review by Dylan Henderson
(Posted on 3/6/10)

Comments: I have a 75 gal reef tank currently with solid water parameters and I have been struggling to get rid of a red and green slime algae problem. I do all of the right things, weekly water changes, small feedings spread through the day, etc, and have tried "natural" methods of algae control. I am trying this product for the first time. I have dosed twice over 6 days and it seems that the algae is dying off and/or not spreading the way it has after initial removal. All of my corals and fish seem to be doing well. No adverse affects and the algae looks to be dying.

"BEST HAIR ALGAE KILLER"

Comments: By far THE single best hair algae killer. I have run a 180 gallon reef tank for nearly 15 years. I had a crash recently and was covered with hair algae. 4 weeks after following the directions on this bottle and I have ZERO hair algae left! Did not hurt my corals!

"It works"
- Product Review by Todd Campbell
(Posted on 7/10/09)
-
Comments: I did not think I would use an algaecide but after reading the discussions on reefcentral, I thought I would give it a shot at my hair algae. The product did exactly what it said it would do with no collateral damage on my 185 though it took longer to work than expected (a couple of months instead of a few weeks). The only ancillary effect other than the algae going away was my coco worm spends alot more time in the tube. Other folks have mentioned this too.

Be careful to follow the directions, more is not better.

"Works great"
- Product Review by Larry Leszczynski
(Posted on 1/26/09)
-
Comments: I had been battling an algae outbreak despite all the usual efforts to get rid of it. The first thing I noticed after the initial dose was that the water was a lot clearer - the greenish-yellow tinge had completely disappeared. After a week and a half of dosing pretty much all of the hair algae had gone brown, and it looks like it is not spreading. It's probably a good idea to keep up with physically removing as much algae as you can while treatments are going on, to get dead or dying organics out of the system.

"It works!"
- Product Review by Ken Lunde
(Posted on 1/20/09)
-
Comments: Well, as much as I hate to use a chemical to fix a problem, this was my last attempt before tearing down a tank. All I can say is WOW! Before starting treatment I removed as much HA as possible, normally it would grow right back. After the third treatment, not only was the HA not growing, but it was dying off! The best part was that nothing else in the tank seemed affected. My tank is now HA free.

"Safe and it works"
- Product Review by James Layton
(Posted on 1/3/09)
-
Comments: I was skeptical. Would Algae Fix Marine work on my algae problem? Was it safe-really?
After six months of use, on and off, in several reef tanks I can say it IS safe. My corals never showed any stress at all. In fact they are growing, which says it all. Fish don't mind it at all. Cleaners like snails and crabs are all A-Ok. It does take several doses to work. It will not work in one dose. The skimmer did not foam. Oh. The hair algae did gradually come under control. I don't use Algae Fix all the time. Just once in a while when other methods don't work-I'll use AF to knock the algae down.

"Algaefix review"
- Product Review by Richard B King
(Posted on 9/19/08)

Comments: This product is best used when trying to play "catch up" with an algae problem. Switching to halides and a inefficient skimmer produced a "bushy tank." Having said that, this product is the best solution to problem algae I have ever seen. It actually works, clearing serious algae within a month. Totally reef safe, I have not seen any problems with inhabitants.

"Amazing!"
- Product Review by Carlos Carbajal
(Posted on 5/3/08)
-
Comments: This product really is amazing; my aglae (bronw on my overflow, film on the glass, and hair on the rocks) begin dying only hours after the first dose! The result was almost instantly visible. I have not wiped the galss of tank since I started dosing. My rocks are slowly returning from green to their original white color and coralline is even beginning to finally appear! It is unbeliaveable to me that only a few ounces of Algaefix are doing what phos reactors, countless water changes, uv sterilizer, 24/7 carbon, and a chaeto packed refugium have not been able to even begin to alleviate.

"This WORKS!"
- Product Review by Michael Hunter
(Posted on 4/16/08)
-
Comments: You got a green hair algae problem with otherwise perfect water conditions? Buy this product NOW!!! This is the only product of its kind on the market--the algae slowly dies and doesn't harm fish or corals. The product is EASY to use too. It took 4 weeks to irradicate, but only because I had it really bad...everything was covered with 3-4 inch shoots. It would probably work with poor water conditions as well.

Word of the wise: Chem Marin products DO NOT work. Tried them and it was a real waste of time.

Comments: I have been fighting hair algae in my 55gl tank for a few months tried large waer changes, phosban, nitrate sponge and sucking the stuff out with a turkey baster but it was a losing battle. I read the review on this stuff and thought why not try it. I've dosed 3 times (3 days in betwwen each dose) per the instructions and while it's not yet completly gone it is going away. I'm now seeing rocks that I had forgotten what they looked like because of the algeae.

Comments: I have a reef tank and leave my lights on for an extended period of time. As a result I would have a film on my glass nightly, but the tank looks awesome. After using this product, my algae is gone. It was gone after the 2nd dose actually. I think my corals even look better. The downside is that the active ingredient has a warning on it that says per state of california, it causes cancer.Im cautious putting my arms in my tank now, and when I do, I wash them off right away....but the algae is gone.Even the live rock looks better.
