AquaMaxx HOB-1 Hang-On-Back Protein Skimmer
Product Review (submitted on July 17, 2013):
I had been looking for a skimmer to go on the back of a 20gal tank to do some upgrades. Spent a lot of time looking a reveiws and comparing prices. If your thinking that this is the skimmer for you you woukd be right. This is a great skimmer so far. Some reveiws i saw talked about the noise from the air. I find it to be very quite. The ease of being able to adjust the skimmer box is a nice feature i think. Yes, i can see it being a pain but the amount of waste in the tank may not always be the same and so being able to adjust for that seems like it will be really great. The one thing that would be nice is if AquaMaxx would include an air valve to use for the break in period. In the beginning there was so much air being pushed into the system that the waste cup filled in seconds. I expexted this and put an air valve on the air hose to adjust the air flow and that help on the break in on this 10 fold. After a few days i was able to remove the air valve and put it straight into the silencer on the skimmer. The only CON i have is the company should update their instructions. The skimmer wasn't all that hard to put together but the instuctions show parts and steps that are for old models. Thought i was missing parts and got some wrong parts in this build but a call to Customer Service was able to clear up my questions. Overall this seems like a solid skimmer and am very happy with its performance up to this point.
