ASM Mini-G Protein Skimmer w/ G300 Needle Wheel Pump Information

Experience a thorough cleaning process by installing the ASM Mini-G Protein Skimmer w/ PC-1000 Needle Wheel Pump from Pet Store on your aquarium. This product is made to freshen up your tank by removing the impurities that could be present in the water. These include the debris and tangible particles, as well as traces of dangerous elements.

Overall, the ASM Mini-G Protein Skimmer w/ PC-1000 Needle Wheel Pump is made from parts that are very affordable. However, this does not mean that its performance is affected. Despite the product`s low cost, it operates very powerfully. It is quite durable, allowing you to use this device all day and every day. Although it requires a little assembly, the process of installing this will take a short time.

The ASM Mini-G Protein Skimmer w/ PC-1000 Needle Wheel Pump is equipped with miniature water pumps that assist the main filter to get a continuous dose of water to be cleaned. The best thing about having these small pumps is that its operation will not disturb your aquatic inhabitants, nor will it hurt them.

If you want a clear and neat aquarium that your fish will enjoy, then you should purchase and install the ASM Mini-G Protein Skimmer w/ PC-1000 Needle Wheel Pump today.

ASM protein skimmers deliver when other skimmers fail. ASM harnesses a patented technique of needle wheel technology. Built from top to bottom with high quality scratch resistant extruded PVC tubing and the injection molded plastic acrylic provides you with not only a skimmer that will perform day in and day out, but can withstand the wear and tear of every day use in the reef aquarium. They are made at a lower cost, which will not affect the performance or quality, yet pass the savings on to you. These hand-made protein skimmers are easy to install, simply place inside your sump, plug it in, and adjust the out pipe flow rate. The out pipe on these skimmers is fully adjustable, it is merely a brisk up and down motion to raise and lower the height of the outlet pipe to dial in flow rate precisely with ease and accuracy.

ASM’s come complete with a Sedra pump or G series pump which is modified to create and produce some of the highest amount of bubbles per square inch of water, on the market today. They perform best, when placed directly in your sump.

ASM skimmers are offered in many different sizes to meet your aquarium needs. Sizes may vary, depending on your bio load and reef size. ASM skimmers will bring your Biotope to life, as your nutrient levels begin to come within proper ranges for optimal health and coloration of your tank mates. Ask one of our Technicians for advice on choosing an ASM for your aquarium.

ASM Mini-G Protein Skimmer w/ G300 Needle Wheel Pump Reviews

"asm g1x 160" - Product Review by Suzanne Lane (Posted on 7/31/12)

Great!

Comments: Pros:This skimmer rocks. It was easy to set up right out of the box. It is easy to adjust water level with the adjustable pipe. It can be modified but I have chosen to run it stock for awhile to see how well it does. It started producing skim within the first day. Really no break in time. I have a 150 gal reef with a 40 gal sump. the unit sits in the sump well even with its large footprint. Price is good for this skimmer. It does the job it was designed to do

Cons: has some noise from airline some my not like. It doesnt come with anything to cover the inlet so small inverts could get stuck (modification to raise off bottom)should be considered.

I would say that this is worth the money. price 250-375

Comments: Great product. My 50 gallon tank does not have a lot of room in the sump. This small footprint did the trick. The pump is buried under the unit. Nice design. It works perfectly. For the price this was a great value.

"Works very well" - Product Review by Peter Stempel (Posted on 9/6/11)

Excellent!

Comments: This is our second ASM Skimmer. We had a smaller model which was too small for our upsized tank that we had previously used on a smaller tank. We did not hesitate to buy a G4 Plus. It was easy to adjust, and we were skimming in minutes. Just follow the instructions, which will have you start the pipe higher than you might think. As the unit runs in, the pipe will end up being a bit lower. I will also note that at one point we thought our smaller ASM had a problem, it leaked skimate from the lid, no matter how dry we made it. Turns out it was just too small for the additional bio load we gave it, and the bubbles did not break down in the catch chamber: the moral of the story?, don't undersize your skimmer. . .

Comments: Works great but for novices they need to know that it takes a few days to actually start skimming junk from the tank. Also there are no instructions at all which is ridiculous. The bad part: the pump is terribly loud.

Comments: At Feather River College we utilize the ASM G4+ for our 240 reef display. Its construction is solid, simple and provides great value. In these tough economic times getting the best bang for the buck is what it is all about. This skimmer quickly set to work on removing built up organics. It also began removing small particulates that were flushed out of the refugium that clouded the tank. There is no need to spend money for a name spend it on something that gets the job done.

Comments: This skimmer is not perfect, but is the best for the money; I use the ASM G-3 for my 210 gal. tank and it start pulling skimate on the first day; it is still doing the job after three years on original parts (I got a spare impeller just in case).Pro.: best price for the money, reasonable foot print, Sedra 5000 pump work very well and produce lots of micro bubbles.Con.: the instruction is terrible, does not tell you the operating water level for the skimmer (I sat my at 10

Comments: I love this skimmer! I have had zero problems with it. This is what I have on my own personal tank and several of my service accounts and it works great. I have never had a single issue with these skimmers after dealing with over 15 of them. For the money I don't think you could get a better skimmer.

Comments: Works great. Instructions were extremly vague, but Marine Depot was very helpful when we called for help. The "start up" level (you lift the tube up/down to adjust)was about 2 inches lower than shows on the vague instructions.

Great!

Comments: The ASM G2 is a great protein skimmer. Operation couldn't be any easier, just plug it in and set the overflow tube to the right height. The bubble production is really amazing. It blows away my previous protein skimmer, a Red Sea Berlin. The only down side is the rubber grommet that connects the main chamber with the pump leaked microbubbles profusely when itially assembled. I superglued the grommet into place and eliminated bubble leakage entirely. I'm very satisfied with this product and I have recommended it to friends.
Lacks any directions or guidance. It would be helpful to know things, i.e. Proper water level in the sump, what height should the adjustment tube be set.

"Junk" - Product Review by Kenneth Willis (Posted on 8/28/09)

Unsatisfactory

Comments: So I ignored some reviews because of this skimmer being an ASM......

So two pumps at $50 a piece failed and the male portion where the collection cup connects to cracking and this is just 6 months in. Tack on the extra $200 I just spent on replacing this garbage........

Sad to say but ASM is behind the game with this skimmer. Alot better options out there for close to the same price.

Excellent!

Comments: I have had this skimmer running on a 125 gallon reef/fish tank (new setup, tank not fully stocked yet) for about a month and it has been working great. It produces a great amount of micro bubbles and it pulls out a lot of junk from the water. The water level adjustment tube is sturdy and holds its position. It is far better then my old hang-on-tank protein skimmer I had on my 55 gallon tank. Only thing I don't like is a small amount of micro bubbles escape into my sump which then get pumped back into my tank. The foam around the water exit doesn't seam to catch many bubbles, it is to course. But that could be solved with a little tweaking to the sump. I would buy another one if I ever need it.

"the pump is not very good" - Product Review by Betsy Dampier (Posted on 3/3/09)

Comments: I think the skimmer itself is fine, it works well (not all that bubbly in my opinion). However the G300 pump that it came with is extremely problematic. I had the starting one, it stopped running forward after about a month. We accidentally broke the ceramic shaft trying to clean it. So I ordered a whole new pump to have extra parts. I hooked that new pump up and it worked well for about 2 weeks, at which point it refuses to run forward again. With some position shifting and creative blowing into the hose you can sometimes get it going again, but all of these things are nearly impossible once it's in place in the stand since the pump sits under the skimmer.

"Frustrating" - Product Review by Douglas Drummond (Posted on 1/18/09)

Unsatisfactory

Comments: The skimmer pulls decent skimmate, fits well in a small space and is very cheap, that being said, the needle wheel on mine has broken TWICE now. The actual wheel spins of center and locks up in the pump. They have the replacement needlewheels in stock, but after paying the shipping and waiting the week to ship it I would have been better off going with another brand.

"simple and effective" - Product Review by Matt Kepler (Posted on 11/23/08)
Rating
Excellent!

Comments: This skimmer is so simple, yet effective. Because it is so simple you are getting the largest skimmer for the price. It is very easy to adjust, just by changing the discharge tube height.

It also comes apart in easy pieces to allow cleaning of the skimmer body and other parts. Not like some of the other 3pass models where you can't get to all of the inside surfaces of the skimmer body.

Some people complained that it doesn't come with a manual, but my skimmer came fully assembled, so a manual wasn't necessary; There weren't a bunch of parts to mess around with.

The only thing I would like is a foam block or other filter for the intake of the skimmer. Unless you have a super clean sump, you'll want to get a filter for the pump intake.

Started pulling organics within 3 days.

Comments: Construction is great, size is perfect, but the pump used on the Mini-G is terrible. It's loud and I had to replace one after only a month. I would not recommend to anyone due to the initial price of the skimmer and latter price of replacement pump.

"ASM G-2 SKIMMER" - Product Review by Kenneth Kramer (Posted on 8/10/08)

Excellent!

Comments: So far the G-2 seems to be working solid and is producing, about 1/5th a cup a day, i have a ton of live-rock in my 90 gal tank, approximately 10 Corals ( mostly soft ), and 7 fish.I was running a SEA-CLONE that wasn't working as good as it has in the past, but that would produce a thick blackish syrupy mix in the cup, just wasn't doing much lately. So comparing the ASM to the SEA-CLONE may not be a good measurement of a comparable Protein Skimmer. I haven't made any adjustments to the skimmer but I am hoping to get a darker more concentrated fluid in the cup.

Comments: I put one of these in the sump of my 120G sps reef. powerful pump. NO FUSS DESIGN!!! I cant emphasize the no fuss enough. Set the drain pipe height and forget about the endless tinkering and adjusting crap that a lot of skimmers have. Mine took about a week to get a slime coat and start pulling out the stank.

Comments: You can't beat the simple but efficient design and sturdy construction of this skimmer. Fit and finish on this skimmer is excellent and the riser tube design to adjust the water level is good although a little hard to adjust while the skimmer is running. The documentation that comes with the unit could be better. Overall performance is medium to high.

Extremely easy to set up and adjust - I adjusted the standpipe over a couple of days to get the skimmate where I wanted it (fairly dry), and haven't had to touch it since. Big change from my old skimmer, which required constant adjustment.

Comments: I've barely had this skimmer installed on my 150G mixed reef for a week and I've already had to empty the collection cup 3 times. It's being removing over a cup of skimmate every day. It took less than 5 minutes to install and is very easy to adjust.

The only con so far is that it comes with almost no instructions, just a one page diagram of the parts. Not that big of deal considering the simplicity of the design, but it seems like for over $300 that could at least give you something.

Comments: I had this skimmer running on a custom 60 gal nano. It dumps tons of micro bubbles into the tank. In order to run this skimmer you need to make sure that you have plenty of baffles in your fuge or sump. Even with 4 baffles bubbles were finding their way into the display. I think the pump is too large for the skimmer body. Otherwise it is a quality built product that fits into a small space. If you have more space go with a larger ASM, I have them on my larger tanks with no problems so I think it is just this model that needs some refining.

Great!

Comments: I found this skimmer to skim very well. The pumps are reliable and there are few skimmers that can provide as much size for the dollar.

Unfortunately, the build quality is very poor. My unit leaked excessively at the base of the cone until I simply siliconed it permanently in place.

I would recommend adding a gate valve on the output to better manage the water level.

Skimmer needs to be handled carefully as it seems fragile. Still, for the price of competitive skimmers you could purchase 2 or 3 G6's!
