BrightWell Aquatics NeoMarine 50 Gallon Salt Mix Information

The Brightwell Aquatics NeoMarine Salt Mix is a highly developed solution of macro and micro minerals to achieve a saltwater solution that is dedicated to mimicking the natural conditions of the sea and ocean. Marine chemists of the company has fully studied this field to obtain the most realistic combination to give you and your fish the most satisfying saltwater aquarium product of all time. The identity of the salts and their concentration is determined by specialists, carefully processed and packed into a single bag for your convenience. The salts mixed in this product are of ultra high purity to provide you with the most impressive tank you have ever assembled. This product has all the goodness found in seawater and excludes all the unwanted compounds like anti-caking agents, vitamins, proteins, ammonia and phosphate. These unneeded ingredients will only pollute your tank.

Brightwell Aquatics NeoMarine Salt Mix from Pet Store is tested and is found safe for all imaginable marine creatures including fishes, jellyfish, corals, sea anemone, mollusks (scallops, clam, oysters), snails and slugs, starfish, sea urchins and sea cucumbers, crabs and shrimps, and sponge. Even marine plants are not harmed by this product. Three years went into the study and they found out that achieving a realistic setup for your home use could actually induce the natural instincts of your pets such as spawning and breeding. Let your aquaria live as if they are in their natural habitat.

Marine chemists estimate that the chemical composition of seawater has remained relatively constant over the past several hundred-million years (perhaps longer than the last billion years); this stability is largely a result of the immense volume of the ocean and the physical, chemical, geological, and biological processes taking place within it. The so-called “modern day” corals largely responsible for building reefs in tropical marine environments have been in existence for well over 200-million years (soft corals have been around much longer than that!), and more primitive life forms (such as sponges) have been around still longer, collectively evolving and thriving in relatively stable chemical conditions. Recent findings by advanced aquarists and scientists in many countries confirm what has long been suspected: there is no obvious benefit to maintaining the concentrations of calcium and other elements depleted by reef-building organisms at grossly elevated levels; in fact, this practice can be detrimental to their long-term survival. All of these points taken into consideration, it seems elementary to replicate the most important aspects of natural chemical composition of seawater as closely as possible to properly care for delicate marine creatures in captivity. The single most important contributor to success with a marine aquarium is maintaining water parameters within tolerable ranges; no amount of lighting and filtration can compensate for water that is lacking in numerous essential elements and that does not meet the criteria required for survival by marine organisms. A successful marine aquarium therefore begins with quality seawater.

Brightwell Aquatics NeoMarine Salt Mix creates an ideal marine environment for aquarium inhabitants by providing all major elements, all non-conservative (depleted by natural chemical and biological processes) minor and trace elements, and elements known to be utilized in the production of biological pigments (biochromes) in precise natural seawater ratios; all ions are formulated to be present in natural seawater concentrations. Conservative minor and trace elements are not depleted in marine environments, indicating that they are not utilized by marine life or do not take part in chemical reactions in seawater; as such, they are not necessary for the survival of aquarium inhabitants, and are not part of the NeoMarine formulation. NeoMarine is not formulated to have enhanced concentrations of certain elements at the expense of sacrificing others and creating a solution with grossly inaccurate elemental ratios; this formulation is based wholly on current marine science data and extensive testing.

NeoMarine is manufactured in Brightwell Aquatics’ production facility in Pennsylvania, ensuring that we maintain absolute control over quality; NeoMarine is not outsourced as many competing US-manufactured salts are. Additionally, elements are provided by individual salts (no seawater evaporite is used); this enables us to maintain a consistent formulation and appearance to the finished salt mix at all times. Ingredients are measured using an extremely accurate process, and each batch of NeoMarine is blended in a dry, clean environment. Our production process promotes uniformity of particle size and homogeneity throughout each container. Small batches are created and lot numbered to maintain the highest standards of quality control. NeoMarine utilizes ingredients of superior grades, and contains no detectable ammonia, nitrate, phosphate, or organic substances at standard specific gravity. It dissolves completely to create crystal clear water. NeoMarine has been extensively tested over a multi-year period with 100% success on all manner of marine invertebrates, fishes, and desirable algae; numerous species of fishes, corals, and mollusks have reproduced freely when maintained in water prepared with this salt blend. NeoMarine is formulated for all marine organisms, not just fish or reef inhabitants.

Excellent!

Comments: I can honestly say that this salt is the best in the market. I tried Ocean and Coral Life and found the elements; fish happiness and overall water condition are great. The service received was excellent and the product was delivered on time as promised.

Comments: Excellent salt for seasoning chicken...jk. Did 5 gallon water change a few days ago and already noticed a difference in all my coral species. Polyps, mushrooms, and flower pot opened up beautifully and fish seem fine. Switched from kent reef salt. Only thing better than salt is natural reef water.

"This is the good stuff" - Product Review by Chris Chapin (Posted on 11/21/11)

Excellent!

Comments: I switched to this from Tropic Marin Pro and all of my corals are growing much faster and have better polyp extension. Like the others have reported, it mixes clean with no residue, so did Tropic Marin. I used Instant Ocean years ago and had the problems with deposits on the mixing tub and pumps. I use a 100 gallon vat now and don't have any deposits in the tank. The one complaint is that the buckets are about the hardest to open that I have even seen. It might be because they have a rubber gasket on the lid, but the tabs are also hard to pry up.

"Good Stuff" - Product Review by Paul Van Hout (Posted on 11/10/11)

Excellent!

Comments: I was previously using Kent Reef Salt mix, but having issues with high Calcium and Magnesium, and very low Alk ( ~5 dKH).
I battled with it for a while, but eventually decided that this was a salt issue.
Having always had good experiences with brightwell's other products, I gave this salt a go.
All my parameters have settled out in good ranges, and my alkalinity issues were resolved by my 3 water change with this salt mix.
My zoanthids seem to be really happy now too.

Excellent!

Comments: This is good salt. It is dry, very granular and easy to dissolve. Once in solution the water is crystal clear. It beats Instant Ocean. Iwill not buy any other salt in the future.

I would like to see the packing in smaller packets rath than a single bucket even though I purchase enough for 165 gallons worth at a time.

"tank loves it but the creep..." - Product Review by Eric Shelsy (Posted on 4/3/11)

Great!

Comments: I have a 90 G mixed reef tank. All the inhabitants are doing well since my slow chang over to Neo Marine Salt mix. I went with Bright because I love their other products, and their customer service (Chris Brightwell has been very helpful to me)The only drawback for me is the amount of salt creep has multiplied by 20 and in many places that didn't creep when I used reef crystal salt mix in the past. However Neo seems to disolve more quickly and my parameters are right on.

"BrightWell Salt is the best" - Product Review by Andrew Byrnes (Posted on 1/26/11)

Excellent!

Comments: I have tried 4 different brands over the past few years and this is the best. The best thing about it is it mixes cleanly and quicker than any other salt. No residue on pumps or bucket and test kits all read out perfect if mixing at 1.026. I don't think there is a better salt, its a huge upgrade over Reef Crystals and in my opinion better than Tropic Marin.

"Love it" - Product Review by Todd Sawasky (Posted on 1/18/11)

Excellent!

Comments: Since starting in the Reef hobby 3 years ago I had only used Reef Crystals and was constantly fighting the low calcium, low Dkh and low Mg. not to mention the fact that according to IO's instructions on the side of their bucket it mixes up at less than NSW specific gravity. I decided to try a different salt and this was the first contendor. The first thing I noticed is it takes a lot less of this product to get a proper SG. I tested all nec. parameters (calc.Alk,and Mg) with salifert tests and got awesome numbers across the board. In the 3 months since switching to this and going bio pellets I have noticed an improvement in my tank it looks so much healthier my coral colors are awesome and even my fish look healthier and more colorful. I am going to be buying another bucket in another month or so and hopefully its consistent with the first if it is I have found my new mix without trying very hard. If oyu are tired of inflated claims and not getting as many gallons of makeup water as claimed this is your new baby. By the way to the reviewer who got chem burns. This stuff is a substance made up of many different chemicals and no matter what salt you use it will all cause burns if not handled properly. The reason you did not get them before is the concentration of your previous salt was not as strong as this. I must also add to go easy when mixing it will get to your desired numbers very quickly and takes some getting used to if you are like me and been messing with subpar salts like RC.

Comments: I re-entered the hobby within the last year, and began with Instant Ocean Reef salt. After some issues with water chemistry and lackluster coral growth I switched to NeoMarine. The day after my first water change (15% per week) we had a noticable improvement in our corals' color and extension. I've been using NeoMarine for several months now, and have seen continued excellent results with my corals, in terms of color, extension, and new polyp growth.

Great!

Comments: I've been hearing about this salt for several years. I've only used it once so far for my 100 gallon reef tank, but all mu corals seem a little brighter. The tank as a whole looks great. I'm going to continue using it to see what else happens.

Comments: The ionic test measurement claims on the bucket are preposterous. But I wanted a reef mix with lower alkalinity than the others, and this seemed a good candidate. I used 3 150g buckets, always mixed in 0 TDS RO/DI water to 35 ppt (SG 1.0265 +/-), measured with a refractometer calibrated to 35 ppt with a reference standard saline solution. I tested every 25g batch made for Ca, Mg, and total alk. My tanks had previously been running on Seachem Reef mix.

Pros:
-- Very consistent measurements across all three buckets.
-- This mix is VERY dry, and if kept so will likely yield more mixed water than stated, even though I was mixing it to a higher SG.
-- Total alkalinity was where I wanted it at 7.25 to 7.5 dkH. pH was predictably 8.40.
-- All my tank inhabitants (sps, lps, zoa's, inverts, and fish) did fine on the mix. No marked changes at all (neither positive nor negative).

Cons:
-- Ca measurements were consistently 370-380 ppm in every batch, considerably lower than the 413 ppm "guaranteed analysis" on the bucket.
-- Potassium consistently measured 360 ppm, significantly lower than the stated 380 ppm figure.
-- Mg measured (1240 ppm) close to the specified number of 1290, but as usual, it was low.
-- This is quite possibly the WORST bucket used by anybody, ever. It's the same bucket I buy driveway sealer in, and it's designed to be opened once (or at most, twice) and then thrown away. Although it seals well, it requires tools to open. If you plan to buy this mix in the bucket, save a nice Reef Crystals or Seachem (or similar) bucket to transfer the contents to. And do this outside, because the mix is rather dusty.

All in all, there is nothing really wrong with Neomarine, and I did find it to be a very consistent product, but it's probably not any better or worse than IO or other much less expensive mixes. The crazy claims made on the product packaging and the ridiculously cheesy bucket are enough to keep me off this mix for a while.

"Best I've used" - Product Review by Ryan Nichols (Posted on 2/24/10)

Excellent!

Comments: After diving into the saltwater aquarium hobby 4 years ago I've made several changes in salt mixes. First I was using Catalina water(local saltwater collected in Cali), then Instant Ocean, then Oceanic, then Red Sea, then Tropic Marin, then Tropic Marin Pro Reef, and now NeoMarine. Fortunately I feel that each move was a step up from the previous saltwater or salt mixes. Unfortunately it took me about 3 years to finally figure out that my salt solutions were inadequate (Guess I'm a slow learner). I seemed to have trouble keeping my Mg levels up with other mixes (including the worshipped Tropic Marin Pro Reef) while still dosing with Mg. Every time I did a water change my Mg seemed to drop. Ever since I've switched to NeoMarine I haven't had a problem. The label says if mixed properly you should have a 1250ppm level of Mg(I think), I always measure mine before I add it to my tank and it reads 1200ppm....not bad! This stuff is pretty potent and I would always recommend using caution while handling any salt mixes! After all, the dose is the poison. And most salt mixes are HIGHLY concentrated.

"DANGEROUS!!!" - Product Review by Ian Jungling (Posted on 2/9/10)

Comments: This "salt", or whatever it is, will cause chemical burns!

I am used to Instant Ocean salt mix, which seems to be normal salt. This stuff has more of a powdered laundry detergent consistancy. As my girlfriend helped me pour it into a couple 5-gal buckets, we got a little on our hands and it REALLY BURNS, almost immediately. Like, you could probably melt a guy by dumping a bucket of this on him.

There is nothing on the label warning of this.

This is some potent stuff. It does make some primo saltwater tho, probably with a Ph of 13.5.

"NeoMarine Salt" - Product Review by Mike Hoover (Posted on 10/11/09)

Comments: Salt mixes all claim to be the best and closest to natural. When we find a salt we like, whether it be for the price, availability, packaging or successful marketing by the manufacturer the idea of trying something else can be a hard sell. I switched from D-DH2ocean and I'm satisfied with my choice. My tank looks just as good now as it did with the D-D. Water is testing within an acceptable range (no salt is perfect) of what is considered normal. NeoMarine mixes fast, and dissolves completely. Also, seems to take a little less salt to mix the same amount of water to the desired salinity as with my previous salt. The NeoMarine Salt is still new to me but it looks like it's gonna be a winner.
