CaribSea Dry Aragonite Special Grade Reef Sand 15 lb Information

1.25–1.95 mm diameter grain size. A revolution in reef-keeping! This is the one you’ve been reading about in all the hobbyist publications. This grade of aragonite is specifically engineered for plenum-type nitrate reducing beds or anywhere a deeper bed is called for. The pore water space created by precision grading also allows maximum pH support and dissolution of calcium carbonate.

CaribSea Aragonite buffers to the highest pH and delivers more calcium, carbonate, and trace elements than any other substrate. Little or no rinsing required, aragonite keeps aquariums healthier, longer.

CaribSea Dry Aragonite Special Grade Reef Sand 15 lb Reviews

"Great Reef Sand" - Product Review by Stephen Shelton (Posted on 9/13/12)
Rating
Great!

Comments: This sand is the perfect size and color in my opinion. It is not so big that it traps detrius, but not so small that your power heads blow it around. I don't care what anyone says RINSE THIS SAND before you add it to a tank or you will be sorry. My skimmer is still pulling silt out of it when I stir a section of the sandbed. If you don't rinse it your water will look like skim milk for a couple days. It took mine 2 days to mostly clear with a skimmer/ sump and a canister filter on it. Other then that this sand is beautiful!

"Quality Fine Grain Aragonite" - Product Review by John Thompson (Posted on 6/7/12)

Excellent!

Comments: Exactly as described. Perfect size grains for deep sand bed. It may be a little too fine for the main display if you have a lot of water movement. I am using it in a refugium. In my opion I would not pay extra for the "live sand" in a bag that is being sold. That stuff is another passing gimick preying on the misinformed. This product will have all the bacteria necessary in due time and it is a better value.

"Exceptional Quality Sand" - Product Review by Sherrod Allen (Posted on 4/28/12)

Excellent!

Comments: This sand is exceptional. I was just snorkling / diving in Hawaii and this side is identical to the sand found on the reefs and near the walls. The fish thrive in this size and texture of sand. I've seen it first hand! I will not be using any other sand for my substrate.

"Great Product" - Product Review by James Krobert (Posted on 1/1/12)

Excellent!

Comments: I purchased the 40# of SG Reef Sand for a new 60G cube. The sand is very consistent in size and shape of the grains and it "washed" out a minor amount of impurities quickly. Looks great in the reef and it is definately a good value.

Comments: So far, this sand has been great. The color really helps reflect the light and the coarse grain makes it easy to clean!

"good substrate" - Product Review by Robert Doyle (Posted on 5/29/11)

Great!

Comments: Bought 15, 40 lb bags of the reef flor. Good substrate but you have to wash it more then you normally would other sand. Washing 600 lbs of this is no easy chore.
The seaflor is a great substrate all around. Stays in place even in strong flow. Gobies and wrasse like it.
This substrate is heck of a lot better than sugar sand that packs down and blows all over the tank like a snow storm.

"Great stuff!" - Product Review by Nathan Royea (Posted on 1/14/11)

Excellent!

Comments: I switch from crushed coral to this due to issues with trapped detritus/nitrates and also crushed coral has poor appearance in my opinion. This will not trap detritus like crushed coral and looks amazing in my tank. I am very pleased with the looks in my tank now! Highly reccomended!

"Great compromise" - Product Review by Mark Rygh (Posted on 1/9/11)

Great!

Comments: It does not blow around nearly as much as the finer sands.
But still looks and works like real sand, not gravel.
Could have been a bit whiter though.

"Love it!!" - Product Review by Jim Montalto (Posted on 3/19/10)

Excellent!

Comments: I was unsure about what substrate to get although I am glad I went with this. The grain size is perfect for a reef tank. Also I was happy to see that it looks much whiter in color once in the tank then the pic leads on to be. No sandstorms when my MP10 kicks up.
