"Poor packaging !!"
- Product Review by Tom Lyon
(Posted on 8/4/11)
-
Comments: Product arrived with 3 of 4 bulbs broken. Took me twenty minutes to clean boken glass debris out of fixture. Bulbs either need to be packaged seperately or to have padding placed around them inside canopy. There was plenty of padding on outside of box but this doesn't protect bulbs that jostle around inside fixture.
Your staff was very understanding and helpful. Replacement bulbs are supposedly enroute to me free of charge. I will continue as a customer only because of this good follow-up service.

"Power cord"
- Product Review by Dan Minchik
(Posted on 5/25/11)
-
Comments: Very disapointed to see only one power cord. The older model had two cords, one for each lamp, which I attached to two different timers. This option is no longer available. I wouldn't have purchased this item if I'd had known this before.

"This baby gets hot"
- Product Review by Guy D Molinari
(Posted on 4/18/10)
-
Comments: As several have mentioned, this baby generates some heat. after only a few hours I noticed the splash cover started to warp. So I removed it, because it is sitting on a piece of glass anyway. Otherwise the plexiglass splash cover would have melted. The whole unit gets very hot, the 12 inch unit has no fans, not sure if the larger ones do.
Bulb choice is limited, but I am only Lighting my fuge.

Comments: PROBLEMS: I have had 4 of these units in the last couple months. Ive had many broken bulbs from both the retail/online outlets. 1 of the units had a problem with the fan and eventually melted the acrylic cover.

SUPPORT: The technical support from the retail & online outlets, as well as the manufacturer have all been superb in replacments.

LIGHT: I love the light output. My soft corals have never looked so good or grown so fast.

PRICE: These units can be pricey....over $2 per watt; but I found some exceptionally good deals on them. Paid less than $1 per watt. So considerably cheaper than high end fixtures.

OVERALL: I will have to wait and see if the units hold up after a year or so to give a final thumbs up! I do feel good about the 3 units I am using now though!

"Coralife Aqualight Power Compa"
- Product Review by Steven D Mckay

Comments: They don't tan as good as the tanning salons!Just kidding.
Actually I haven't used it yet,I'm upgrading from a 30gal.
tank to 50gal.I do use a Coralife Single 96 watt.Power Compact.I only have one coral at the moment a Sun Coral it's non photosynthetic.Just using the single has transformed my 30lbs.of Pohnpei Live Rock from gray to pink, red, purple and some shades of green coralline algae. The live rock is almost totally covered in just five months.I plan on using the single and the double light strips on my 50gal.tank which gives me 288 watts. Enough light to keep most corals if placed correctly
in the tank. Not only would I recommend this light fixture
I would recommend it over T-5's as well.

"Fixture overheated"
- Product Review by Jerry Kohoutek
(Posted on 9/27/09)
-
Comments: The 24" dual lamp fixture I received overheated after only a few hours of operation. The actinic lamp base became so hot it turned dark brown, cracked the glass bulb and melted the acrylic cover below it. Both lamps were on at the time and the fans were running. The air flow to the fixture was not obstructed. (It was just sitting on top of my tank cover, out in the open.)

"A little noisy..."
- Product Review by Ursula Moran
(Posted on 3/4/09)
-
Comments: I ordered 2 of these lights and one was defective when I got it so I had to ship it back and will get a replacement for it. (Many thanks to Jason in your customer service department for his great service with our return!!)

The lights seem to work very good, I hope that the plants in my freshwater tank will grow better now than with the standard lights the tank came equipped with. Since I have the new light for only a few days now I cannot say yet if it will really improve it, but it certainly is much brighter and looks better too.

However, the cooling fan is a little noisy and I will have to get used to the constant humming in our living room. I am only running one unit now, when I get the second I hope it's not going to be too loud...

"It's Coralife..."
- Product Review by Chad Weisbrodt
(Posted on 1/23/09)
-
Comments: I have never been a big Coralife customer/fan, and this fixtrue sure didn't sway my opinion. I had ran mine for about a year and a half, at which point the fans were louder than the rest of the equipment combined. Shortly thereafter one of the ballasts started to missfire. Also, I have never been very fond of the color temperature of stock Coralife bulbs. Eventually I just swapped it out for another fixture alltogether. If I had to purchase another power compact fixture I'd go with one from Current, of which I have several still.

"Brandon's reef"
- Product Review by Brandon Bennett
(Posted on 1/10/09)
-
Comments: The light fixture is used on my refugium, I got about one year out of it before one of the ballast burned up. It's not fan cooled, so it must be turned of at least once a day to cool down. I bought it again because it fits my refugium, now I run a timer.

"Not GREAT..."
- Product Review by David Schaeffer
(Posted on 10/13/08)
-
Comments: ...but better than average. LIKE it, don't love it, and for one simple reason: Coralife made a 12" fixture, ideal for a pico reef in a 2.5 gallon tank...and it's TOO DEEP TO FIT a 2.5 gallon tank. Yes, if it is sitting directly on top of the tank, it's a good fit, but that leaves no room for filtration, and the amount of heat produced is extreme (in a 70F room, it took a 2.5 gallon AGA up to 86F). With mounting legs installed, it won't fit directly on the tank rim - I had to get a larger piece of glass cut (8.5") and then I was back in business. Why would they make a 12" fixture that doesn't fit the standard 12" aquarium in hobby? Either a slightly different case design or a variation on the mounting legs would solve this problem. Coralife, if you're reading, another improvment: Holes for ventilation. Convection alone could give this unit a significant amount of cooling.

Ok, that's the bad news out of the way. The good news: 36W of 50/50's on a pico reef! My zoas' colors pop.
With virtually no rigging this thing gives you enough light to grow SPS in a 2.5. for the space-conscious, this fixture could be the solution for temporary propagation tanks.

I was originally going to go with the Current 2X18W fixture, but the difference in price tag got me. The legs on the Current WOULD fit a 2.5, and there's a fan on theirs, so next time it would be an even tougher choice.

So there you have it - if I could have given it 3.5 stars, I would have.

"coralife"
- Product Review by Erik Forsberg
(Posted on 7/22/08)
-
Comments: Only drawback is the lack of independent control
over the lights. I really like to have independent
timers for the 10K and the actinic sections of the
lights, an older rev of the same fixture did offer
that.

Comments: The new light is great and is much brighter than the last coral life light we had which was only 24 inches long.
Our fish are happier and the coral is definately happier and appear to be flourishing as I write this.
Thanks,
Mitch

"Nice upgrade for a Nano Cube"
- Product Review by Ryan Christofferson
(Posted on 8/2/07)

Comments: When the stock lights in my Nano 6 just weren't cutting it, I upgraded to the Coralife Aqualight. Nice sleek design and a perfect fit for my tank. The light color was also nice. The only thing I wish it had was the led moonlights.
