Coralife Power Center (Day-Night Timer Or Wave-Maker Timer) Information

In a natural water environment -- whether seawater or freshwater -- fish follow a daily life cycle according to night and day. The sunlight is their guide, much the same way that we use the sun as the guide of our sleeping patterns.

Once the fish are removed from their natural environment and placed in an artificial setting such as the aquarium, the natural cycle they follow in a daily basis gets disrupted. Without this cycle to follow, fish become stressed, which can cause them to have a lower immune system, which in turn makes them susceptible to different kinds of diseases.

What you need is a device to simulate day and night in your aquarium. Thankfully, such a device exists, and it is the Zilla Power center (Day-Night Timer or Wave-Maker Timer) from Pet Store. This tool works a timer with dual capabilities (day and night) that can provide a full 24 hours of light cycle, everything from night to dawn then noon and dusk and back again. Because this device perfectly simulates a day-and-night cycle in the aquarium, the fish will feel as if they were in their natural environment.

The Zilla Power center (Day-Night Timer or Wave-Maker Timer) is also a wave-maker. It can control a couple of water pump sets alternating at an interval of fifteen minutes. The wave-maker simulates the natural movements of ocean tides by creating waves in the tank.

Feature(s):
 • 8-Outlet Timer/Power Strip 4 timer-controlled outlets
 • 4 constant-power outlets
 • 24 hour mechanical timer 15 minute setting intervals
 • Great for switching water pumps to create tidal- flow currents
 • Alternate day-night cycle timer
 • Master on/off control switch
 • 3-foot heavy-duty power cord
 • Sliding outlet safety covers
 • 3-prong grounded plug and outlets
 • 15 amp 120 volt (1875 watts max.)circuit breaker
 • UL listed
DAY-NIGHT TIMER The Power Center is a day-night dual timer device that provides complete 24-hour lighting cycles from dawn, noon, dusk and nighttime. WAVE-MAKER APPLICATION The Power Center can control two sets of water pumps using the alternating timer (total of four outlets) at 15 minute intervals (min.) or more to create a wave-maker application. The two sets of outlets will interchange between each other based on the timer setting. This wave-maker application creates a natural rhythm in your aquarium that replicates ocean tidal movements.

Coralife Power Center (Day-Night Timer Or Wave-Maker Timer) Reviews

"Electrical Problems" - Product Review by Mckay Christensen (Posted on 8/20/10)

Unsatisfactory

Comments: I haven't been running this long enough to be able to comment on how well it keeps time, and I won't be using it any longer. Every night about the same time, the circuit breaker this power strip was plugged to would trip. I was pretty sure there wasn't too much load on the circuit, I added up the usage of every electrical item on the circuit and I was way below the limit, but it kept on tripping. I even got an extension cord and plugged some of the tank's electrical load into an outlet in another room. But it still tripped the circuit. I checked and every time the power has gone out, it has corresponded with a switch of the timer. I'm done with this thing.

"great product" - Product Review by Salvatore Caliguri (Posted on 7/23/10)

Excellent!

Comments: i dont know why there are so many bad reviews as i have been using 6 of them for the past 2 yrs with NO problems. one time it even got a ton of water dropped on it(accident) and it went off and when it dried off it was fine again. i wouldnt know what to do without this product. i did have a problem with one recently, but it was my fault as i was playing with the 'tabs' that set the time and screwed one up. it isnt complicated to set up. tabs down is on , tabs up is off,(on timer)set your clock by the arrow to the current time, blue is pm , yellow is am. white is all the time. simple!

"overall a good product" - Product Review by Shawna Walker (Posted on 2/21/10)

Great!

Comments: Had it for almost 6 months now, it hasn't failed. Works like it is supposed to. Very convenient, if I go away for a day or two I know the lights will turn off automatically so I don't have to worry about finding someone to do it.

I wish: it had more "constant" outlets. I have alot of filters, heaters, bubble machines, etc in my big turtle tank and need more outlets than that to be on all the time. Also wish the timing was more accurate. The lights turn off at 10:47pm. Can't get it to 10:30 or 11:00 exactly, it's always imprecise.

For the money it was a good investment.

However, the instructions are a bit confusing. and I unplugged it to bring the tank stuff to my new house and lost the instructions, so it was a hassle to set it up again. Not simple, that's for sure.

"Not worth the money" - Product Review by Eric Workman (Posted on 1/9/10)

Comments: I had two of these things mounted vertically on the wall inside my cabinet and both timers failed within 5 months. The clock stops keeping time even with a new battery. And worse, when the clock stops keeping time, the timer goes from Program mode into Off mode. Both power strips failed this way within 3 months of each other. At first I thought I may have just gotten a lemon then the other failes too. Very frustrating. Way overpriced for the quality.

"timer dead in <90 days" - Product Review by Jordan Buser (Posted on 7/1/09)

Comments: fairly easy to set up but the timer function on mine just stopped in about 65 days worth of use. when i turn the dial, i can hear the click that it's supposed to be turning the yellow ones on and the blue ones off, but there is no change. i now just have a relatively expensive power strip where only 6 outlets work.

Comments: I needed a timer for my new light. I read very little about this power strip, just saw the Day-Night timmer on the picture of it, and ordered it. I don't think this is really what I wanted. The plug are to close together, and I just don't understand the sittings. The directions to use it are printed on back of the box and there isn't much to read there, I would look more into this before you bought it, but then again it may be the one best out there. I just don't like the instructions, may have to get one of the kids to set if for me

"No Good" - Product Review by Alexander Adami (Posted on 1/12/09)

Unsatisfactory

Comments: This product left a lot to be desired over. After 4 months operation it would no longer work as reqiured (most likely due to saltwater getting in teh dial) Spend the extra money and go with a digital that has rubber buttons. My digital has now outlasted and out perfomred the zilla hand down!

"Outlets too close..." - Product Review by Stuart Lewis (Posted on 2/9/08)

Comments: Good simple timer. Only drawback is the spacing between the outlets is too close. You cannot plug a both a DC converter (ie for fans or LEDs) and a regular plug in adjacent outlets- this limits you to one outlet only on each timed circuit if you use one of these.

Comments: I acquired this timer from someone else who broke down their tank. I have a masters degree and this thing gave me a headache. For the price it is you should be able to control day and night seperate from each other but it is impossible to run both day and night lights at overlapping intervals! This thing is a pain. The only reason I have it is it was a package deal!

Comments: If you are getting this to control lighting on a reef tank that has white and blue night lighting plus day lighting, beaware that there is no way to set the cycles for a total dark period (if that matters), or to control the individual day/night outlets. E.g., if you wanted to have white LED's & blue LED's on different cycles you can't do this. Also, if your LED's have a transformer type plug, the distance between the outlets is not wide enough to accomidate two transformer plugs.

Comments: the product idea and concept are great but the dependability is terrible, if this timer gets one drop of water on it it's over , I have a 155 tank and quite a few years of experience....this will be the third time I've had to replace this timer,
either drop the price or make a better product! I have moved on to cheaper separate timers.
