CPR AquaFuge2 Hang-On Refugium - Small Information

Product Manuals & Documentation

With the CPR Aquafuge 2 Hang-On Refugium from Pet Store, you can now enjoy the full benefits of a skimmer, a refugium, and a powerhead in one cleaning device. It now comes in a small size that works just as powerful as the big ones. Plus, it provides you more space to install other aquarium maintenance equipment.

The CPR Aquafuge 2 Hang-On Refugium is built with a powerhead that allows the skimmers and refugium to filter through the water without affecting your fish. This will prevent your pets from experiencing any undeserved trauma while the tank is being cleaned.

While the powerhead is at work, the skimmers and filters clear the water from the presence of both tangible and non-tangible particles and bring them to a collection cup, where they will await disposal. The refugium, on the other hand, is tasked to lower the toxicity level, as well as to maintain the pH level to an appropriate level.

The CPR Aquafuge 2 Hang-On Refugium is great for beginners and amateur aquarists because it includes all the basics on how to take care of one`s aquarium water. It doesn`t matter what type of water your fish thrive in. This device will definitely take care of your friends.

Say hello to a pleasant, non-space-consuming, clean, and green aquarium with the CPR Aquafuge 2 Hang-on Refugium.

CPR`s AquaFuge2 hang-on refugiums come in three different sizes to meet the needs of marine aquarists.

Recently redesigned with a black acrylic backing to prevent light from transfering to the main aquarium, each model comes with a powerhead and features a unique baffle system. This prevents the substrate and organisms from being disturbed yet also allows enough water to flow through the eliminate any stagnant areas.

The AquaFuge2 provides ideal growth conditions for food items, such as copepods and ampipods, to feed invertebrates and fish in the main tank.

It provides a controlled growing area for macroalgae, which can be used to reduce "nuisance" algae in the main tank and provided a "nursery" area for a variety of organisms.

In 2011, a new outlet tray was added to improve the water return system.

**Please Note: The AquaFuge 2 does not come with a light fixture, although lighting is needed to meet the needs of your refugium inhabitants.

"Great Addition" - Product Review by Cal Smith (Posted on 5/29/12)

Excellent!

Comments: I love this HOB addition to my nano tank, and the miracle mud I ordered with it makes it that much better. Within 1 week of adding this to my tank my coral's grew faster and were brighter. Having this as a gravity feed back into the tank has a HUGE diffrence on the pods in my tank and my 3 little fishies are much happier now too. Really great system and I wish I had it 1 & 1/2 years ago.

"Very Nice Unit" - Product Review by Nelson Ortiz (Posted on 3/30/12)

Excellent!

Comments: Recieved a very nicely built, medium sized refugium. Only negative point was the impossibly tight fit from the pump adapter to the refugium intake. A bit of fine sandpaper applied to the adapter end which goes to the refugium did the trick, providing a snug, secure, but still movable fit.
Teamed it up with a Finnex ML-1836, swapped the included 10k daylight bulb for a Coralife 50/50, added Cheato, 5 lbs of Miracle Mud and some rubble from my LFS and it was 'good to go', easy setup, runs silently.

"Pretty good" - Product Review by Doug Forman (Posted on 1/27/12)

Excellent!

Comments: I ordered the small but mine looks different from the pic, which was almost a problem on my 12gal aquapod. My cpr came with a outlet like a normal hob filter, so it a flat plate that directs water into the tank instead of a pipe as pictured. I was hoping for the pipe so I could extend and route it over my 4" rear filter area and into the tank, but thats not possible now. It just feeds into and pulls from the filter area.. not sure thats as efficient as could be, and the 12" heater I put in the inlet section has to work harder to keep the tank at 80, which probably overheats the hob as a result.

Its quality made and looks nice. I see how it could break if full and you didnt support it properly from the bottom. I bought a light that clips to the side but it sits too high and lights my tank at night (when I want to run the cpr to balance levels at night). I plan to ditch that and find some sort of low profile led that will shoot into the tank from the side. I also plan to make a top for it because I'm losing more evaporated water than I did before.

The rio pump that came with it is garbage, and rattled like crazy as soon as you lessen the flow. I decided to ditch it all together and I split off my main filter pump with a "y" adapter and fed it into the cpr (which needs low flow anyway). This saves power, clutter and keeps my tank quiet.

The flow knob is also quite hard to turn and not confidence inspiring when placing it into the inlet tube. It feels like its going to break, but I've been careful and its ok. Overall I'm happy with it, but it is a bit overpriced.

Comments: One of the center braces broke after 1 week and now the refug. is bowed. I will now have to drain it and silicone it back together. My CPR protein skimmer works great though.

Comments: Got the small hob refugium for my twenty gallon reef tank and it amazed me how big it actually is and how easy it is to set it up. Works great and looks awesome. I don't like the pump that comes with it, had to play with that a bit. Don't think about it twice just buy it. Happy reeding to everybody.

Comments: Bought it for my 29 gallon seahorse only tank, feeding 2 times a day and they r messy eaters to boot! Just perfect, used nitrate sponge for substrate and added Chaeto full of pods, nitrates have gone from 20ppm to below 5 in a week! Runs quiet. Nitrates should be undetectable in a month!

"Great small fuge" - Product Review by Jessica Duncan (Posted on 6/1/11)

Excellent!

Comments: Just what I needed for my Nano system. The gravity drain lets pods directly into my display tank as desired. You do have to drill a small hole inside the fuge on the intake side to break the siphon that forms when the pump turns off (ie power outage). I have my heater in it, but there is not a lot of room for other equipment, so look at the dimensions carefully (realize that they are OUTSIDE dimensions) if you plan to put anything in here.
Outlet Point-of-Exit: 1+1/2" OD x 1+1/8" ID
Outlet Attachment: 1+3/4" OD x 1+1/2 ID

The factory outlet fitting and attachment look like PVC, but they are both proprietary plastic parts. The fitting is a single piece bulkhead elbow and the attachment elbow simply slips on and can be rotated to help direct flow.

The outlet fitting can be replaced with a standard 3/4" bulkhead. The inlet fitting can NOT be replaced with a 1/2" bulkhead because the drilled hole is too small.

"cpr aqua fuge" - Product Review by Jim Udich (Posted on 3/25/11)

Unsatisfactory

Comments: I have had this product for several years. It's on the back of my 120gal FOWLR. My unit doesn't have a skimmer. This thing works OK, nothing like a real refugium. I have live rock rubble and Cheato in there. The narrow width of the box limits the amount of light the marco algae can get. I get cyno growing on top of the cheato. The inlet/pump interface is flimsy and I worry about breaking it everytime I do maintence. The outlet bubbles into the main tank no matter what. It is extremely poor design to not have a screen or something on the outlet to stop snails from entering the outlet tube from your main tank. This WILL happen over time. CPR has some lame warning in the instructions. A design fix should be incorporated into the system. I had a snail go after the tasty slime in the outlet tube and block the outlet causing a overflow. I fixed it by drilling 6 holes in the outlet and forming a thin star pattern with some tiny strip ties.

Comments: works amazing on my 16 gallon bowfront reeftank.fits my nano skimmer and my jbj uv with plenty of room for cheato, live rock, and a dsb.intake has spot for my chemipro elite.great water turnover rate.i got the light recomended for this but the bulb the 6500k 24 watt bulb was way to hot if you want to have a dsb it burnt the cheato on top but the lower half was fine.if you dont have a dsb you dont need to change the bulb.i got the 50/50 bulb for this setup and it is much cooler and promotes photsythasis and the algea grows much faster just food for thought if you get one.make shure you have 6 inches clearence behind tank to fit this also.

"Good, but the pump is noisy" - Product Review by Joel Saxton (Posted on 10/11/09)

Comments: Overall, I think this is a decent HOB refugium. I dislike the included Via Aqua pump, however. It has a tendency to buzz very loudly. Even after I took steps to dampen the vibration, it still persisted until I replaced the pump with a Minijet 404. Now it runs silently and I can sleep peacefully. In the future, CPR shouldn't be cheap about their pumps and should go with one that's quieter.

"great design, BUT ..." - Product Review by Joseph Velez (Posted on 4/30/09)

Comments: This hang on fuge is a great idea. wonderful design which works very well and can be 'jimmy-rigged' to fit several situations.
The catch = I have owned this aquafuge and the Bakpak skimmer and I cannot figure out why CPR spoils their great designs with poor quality parts. the intake and output pipes rely on a rubber washer to keep water where it needs to stay. unfortunately this part (and on the bakpak) are TERRIBLE. If you absolutely need to have this, I suggest vigilance on these joints.

Comments: My only main problem with this refugium is if the intake would ever get blocked with either a turbo snail or macro algae from inside the refugium then you could have a major flood in your house. I removed the unit because I have my aquarium in my family room and was worried.

Comments: These are really nicely made units. The powerhead that comes with it has a metal shaft, which rusts and breaks after a year or two. They are cheap to replace.

Comments: Excellent Product. Easy to setup, Instructions need to be a little clearer. Need a little force when connecting inlet water flow connector. A little confusion when selecting stands for the light though. Highly recommend the CPR power compact for this. My caulerpa is already starting to grow from only 1 week. Slow the water flow down to eliminate splashing in the tank. It will also increase contact time with the plants. Also throw in a tiny powerhead inside the refuge to elminate dead spaces Where water flow doesnt go. Thats it.

Comments: I have had this up and running now for 3 weeks and have noticed an increase in my copepods. The macroalgae has helped decreased some of my nitrates. You definitely need at least 5 inch clearance from the back of your aquarium to the wall for this unit with the CPR Aqua fuge light and the acrylic stands for the aqua fuge light that you can order with this product.

"Love this product!" - Product Review by John Lin (Posted on 8/3/07)

Excellent!

Comments: Purchased the AquaFuge 2 from MarineDepot about a year ago. The product is very well built, runs dead silent, I do not have bubble problems at all with outpipe. Also bought the CPR lights that go on top. Roughly 3 or 4 inches of live sand with Chaeto. The chaeto grows crazy, must be pruned every 3 weeks else it will extend out of the water. The refugium is full of pods, and my tank seems to be crash proof, water parameters always stay perfect despite long periods of no water changes or if my children over feed from time to time. Running on a 33 gallon Oceanic cube with Xenia and other softies. Two mated maroons and a coral beauty. Highly reccomend this product.
