Deep Blue Texas Holey Rocks Reviews

"Gorgeous Faux Texas Holey Rock" - Product Review by Peter Suslock (Posted on 1/15/13)
Rating
Excellent!

Comments: Having been keeping fish for close to 40 years I have found that Deep Blue produces the most gorgeous and true to life replicas of corals and stone that I have ever seen.

And this piece of Texas Holey Rock is no exception, it's simply indistinguishable from the real thing. Well, with the exception of the high cost of Texas Rock and the weight. Each piece is sculpted after the real thing and made of cold resin that's safe for fresh, salt and brackish water.

This particular piece went into a single specimen tank that houses my Midas Cichlid and he's enamored with it. Artificial corals and stone won't act as PH buffers but there's an eas way around this, especially if that's one of the main reasons you use real Texas Rock and or Coral.

If you need your water parameters on the soft side just add some Peat into a filter bad and add it to your tank or filter. On the other hand if you need your water more Alkaline, say a PH of 8.5 - 10 crushed coral is perfect and both will provide the buffering stability you need.

Price wise this can't be beat as a piece of Texas Holey Rock this size an with this much detail would cost you 3 times as much. It's a wonderfully affordable and extremely realistic alternative.

Coral made by Deep Blue can be bleached when it gets covered with brown algae. I have a few pieces of 18" high Stag horn and to clean them periodically I use a solution of one part bleach to 10 parts water. Then rinse and treat with Seachems Prime and have been doing this for years without incident.

However the Texas Holey Rock does have streaks of embedded color that may be lost through bleaching - scrubbing would be a better alternative. I can't wait until these are back in stock!
