Deltec NFP Nitrate Filter Information

New Model Deltec NFP Nitrate Filters are a simple and efficient way of reducing the nitrate level in your aquarium.
Suitable for saltwater and freshwater aquariums up to 900 litres or.

Supplied with a syringe and osmotic bag for dosing of the nitrate fluid.

David Saxby spent great amounts of time and effort working with Deltec in Germany to create a new range of nitrate filters which would overcome many of the problems that are commonly found with this kind of reactor.

The nitrates in his 3,700 gallon aquarium had crept up to the 50-60 ppm level due mostly to the 400+ fish that the tank houses and was having an affect on the bright colours of some of the corals.

Working with the aim to make the new nitrate filter as simple and effective as possible it took about 10-12 weeks to bring the nitrate in his complete system to zero and involved many adaptations to the reactor.

The new units are alcohol fed which can be added by syringe, osmotic bag or by a specifically designed peristaltic pump and are capable of being pressurised so that they can sit in a cabinet below the tank if you do not have a sump.

Be aware however that these filters work on natural biological processes which involve the growth of a stable colony of denitrifying bacteria and therefore a certain amount of patience and understanding is required.

Features of the new nitrate reactor are:

Ease of cleaning via fully removable lid.
Large bore exit pipes that will not block.
Special media that will not choke up with dead bacteria.
Pressurised operation possible for flexibility of reactor positioning.
Recirculation system to ensure an even distribution of nitrate and food to the bacteria.
Can be operated in manual, semi-automatic and fully automatic mode.
Dimensions: 180x140x500mm or 7 1/8x5 1/2x19 3/4 inches

Note:

Choose a reactor size that will turn your tank over once every 14-28 days when running at full capacity. If too large a unit is used then it will become harder to step it down once the nitrate is under control.

Great Nitrate Reactor Product Review by THANAKORN BALANKURA (Posted on 4/18/10)

Excellent!

Comments: The instructions are detail oriented and daily procedures require patience and accuracy of water feeding and media injection.

My Nitrate level was beyond 40 ppm and after 3 days using the NFP 512 the water coming out of the reactor had undetectable Nitrate levels. I love it.

Unbelievable Product Review by THANAKORN BALANKURA (Posted on 4/16/10)

Excellent!

Comments: I had setup my tank 250 Gallon tank with LPS, SPS and lots of Tangs Fish (which came from a friend who no longer wanted them). Feeding the fish twice or 3 times a day plus the Marine Snow for my Sea fans, My Nitrate was way high at 40ppm. I've tried all the easy methods recommended, growing Kaeto Algae, Water changes, deep sand bed, dosing vodka ... none seemed to help in the Long run as my rocks and sand bed continue to leach the nitrates as soon as new water is added.

With not much trust in Nitrate filters (as i have used some cheap made in china brands before) I decided to give Deltec NFP 512 a try. The manual is detail oriented but the setup is easy. After following the instruction up to day 5 .... I've tested my Nitrates with the Salifert and API test kit I regularly use .... Outcome? UNBELIEVABLE .... my Nitrates are down to undetectable !!!! Thank you so much D-D and David Saxby for making this excellent product !!!! I look forward to increase my flow rate in the next few days and hope to see my nitrates dissapear ... (so maybe my sps can get their colors back again) :)
