Digital Aquatics Float Switch Kit w/ Mount Information

When you decide to build your own aquarium, you will soon realize that there are so many things you need to consider. Aquariums take hard work and lots of maintenance. For one, they require a lot of devices that go beyond the concept of tank-water-fish. If only it`s as simple as that. You will be surprised at how many electrical and electronic gadgets, devices and equipment you will need to keep an aquarium running smoothly. The worse thing about this is that water and electricity do not make a safe combination.

To avoid accidents, you must put safety measures in place. One of these measures is using a float switch, which you can use to run a pump`s powerhead in a container or in a higher storage tank. If you`re looking for a float switch, you can`t go wrong with the Digital Aquatics Float Switch Kit with Mount from Pet Store.

One of the biggest selling points of this kit is its easy configuration, unlike with other float switches which can be hard to configure. This float switch can be used with either the RKL or RKE systems. It has features that allow you to make water transfers automatic, set up a system for safety alerts to warn you about high and low levels of water, and also install alarm notifications for full skimmer cups.

The Digital Aquatics Float Switch Kit with Mount comes with easy-to-follow guides for both installation and programming.

The new Digital Aquatics float switch kits make configuration quick and easy!

There are countless ways to use these new float switches with either your RKE or RKL system. Program an Auto Top Off (ATO) system, automate water transfers, setup safety alerts for high AND low water levels, skimmer collection cup full alerts and so much more!

Each kit comes with programming instructions and an installation guide to help you get up and running quickly. Our configurable mounting brackets will work with almost any tank or sump application. The floats are fully submersible and made of a long lasting rugged plastic compound that is reef safe. Our mounts are made of aquarium-grade acrylic and are also reef safe, as is all provided hardware.

Digital Aquatics Float Switch Kit w/ Mount Reviews

"Works 95% of the time..." - Product Review by Gabriel Manis (Posted on 7/4/12)

Comments: One of the selling points for me getting the DA RKL with add-on modules was to run my auto top-off through the controller. I used a single SA Float Switch Kit with the mount in the back of a custom All-in-One 12G marine tank. In 10 months of use I had a "catastrophic" failure on two occasions when the system didn't cut the power to my aqua lifter at all (one of the times it caused about 4-4.5 G of water to flood the tank and end up on the ground). Both times I came home to hear the aqua lifter running dry.

On several other occasions the tank would have only a slight overflow or I would come home from work with the water level being noticeably higher than the switch should have allowed.

I cannot say with 100% certainty that the switch failed or the RKL itself failed. Either way, most will be using them together as a system and IME/O should consider an alternate ATO solution. I owned a much simpler autotopoff.com system in the past and it worked better. In the future I will likely opt for the Tunze Osmolator or the JBJ ATO.

"Perfect" - Product Review by Michael Roberts (Posted on 12/28/11)

Excellent!

Comments: I bought this right before I left for a 7 day vacation. DA will tell you to plug your ATO pump into a surge protector then plug it into channel 1 or 4 if it is a small wattage pump. I used it on channel 1 and did not use a surge protector because it is shutting on and off just fine with the aqua lifter pump. I do not worry if it does not shut off because it is only connected to a 7 gallon bucket, if I have a problem in the future I will get one. Anyway I left for 7 days and everything was just fine. Upon return my bucket was dry and the water in my sump was a little low. The pump was still trying to pump top off water into the sump because the switch was open but because of the design of the pump all I had to do was fill my bucket up and then the pump sucked the ATO water into the sump and then the switch closed then the pump shut off. Worry free switch, worry free pump, worry free vacation. Great product, high quality and easy to use for multiple uses.

"Some assembly required" - Product Review by Stephen Madison (Posted on 9/24/11)

Comments: This is a standard float switch so there is nothing particularly wonderful about it. It comes with an adapter cable that allows you to plug the float switch into your reefkeeper's SL1 or SL2 module. The float switch wires and adapter wires have to be joined together. I opted to use solder and heat shrink tubing (not included) to join the wires so be prepared to solder them together. The heat shrink tubing was to insulate the soldered connections from the salt water environment corrosion as well as from touching anything metal, including each other.
The bracket is made of 1/4" acrylic and is built well but it is not assembled either and there are no instructions so it takes a minute to sort out how to assemble it but it isn't very hard and it does a good job of securing the float switch to your tank while allowing a long range of vertical adjustments.

Overall this is a good product and it works well with the reefkeeper controller system.

Comments: If you already have an rkl or rke and are thinking of adding ato to your system this is the way to go. All you need to do is solder the wires together, adjust the hanging bracket, plug it it to the sl1 assign the switch to the pc4 and your done. Its cheap easy and works great. I would recommend this to a friend!
