Comments: By far the best pump in the hobby. I've had a Gen 1 for over 6 years. All I've done to it is replace the wet side 1 time, and recently upgraded the driver to Gen 2 so I could sync it to my new Gen 2 pump. I have them set to NTM with anti-sync and so far my corals are very responsive to the new flow patterns. I expect these pumps to last a very long time

"Great Product"
- Product Review by Edwin Guido

Comments: This product is amazing and definitely worth the price. I had 8 powerheads in my tank, creating as an inconsistent current as possible until I purchase the MP40. Just one MP40 and I was able to get rid of all the powerheads I had in my tank. I will definitely be getting another one as I have a 90 gallon reef and I definitely want to see the wave feature in action.

"Best powerhead to-date"
- Product Review by Terrance Lott
(Posted on 7/30/12)

Comments: I am usually quite hard on reviews given to products. However, I do give credit where it is due; and VorTech must be complemented on their powerhead! Like other reviews, I noticed the detritus kicked up by the pump ~ it reached into every spot of the tank and pulled most (if not all) the detritus and allowed my overflow to catch it. My fish LOVE swimming in the water currents it creates and it is a treat to watch them do it. Set up is quite elementary really, only problem is in deciding which mode you want to use; all of them are awesome! While the pump is the BEST on the market, the ONLY downside to this product is the realatively HIGH price-tag ~ almost a little too high really (which is why I rated 4/5 stars). However, the price tag aside, best product out there to-date! I plan to order a second one very soon, to include the battery back-up as well!

Comments: I was contemplating a VorTech for the longest time - my issue was the same as almost everyone elses - the price tag. Then one day, one of my Koralia 4's in my four foot 90 gallon long died on me. I decided to bite the bullet and replaced it with an MP40. WOW!!! My fish and I are in love. First thing I noticed when I plugged it in and let it rip was the detritus it kicked up and kept suspended long enough for the overflow to catch it. Then I started playing with the modes - eventually settled with Reef Crest. Awesome! The controller is easy to use and intuitive as well. I was initially worried about noise but it's actually very quiet. The dry side assembly gets quite warm though but hey, at least it's not heating up my tank. One of these certainly is powerful enough for a four foot tank but it's easy to tell that it will be much, much better in a pair. Trust me, it's worth the money. I will definitely be replacing my other Koralia with another MP40 soon. :)

"Great flow"
- Product Review by Cal Smith
(Posted on 5/29/12)
-
Comments: Just changing to this power head and using the nutrient export mode creates great flow and moves almost all of the excess food and matter out from the rock and into the overflow. It actually dropped the PO4 levels in my tank making for a much healthier and happier tank. I love the fact that it remembers when you want it to go into night time mode. It is a little on the expensive side like most things in this hobby but to me it's worth it. Also at random time's I can hear the prop turning but it's alot less noise than my old pumps clicking on and off every min or two.

Comments: Well I have tried them all to get the water flow I wanted in my reef tank. I have a 120 Gal 4'x2'x2' oceanic. I spent a lot of money and wasted time when I should have bite the bullet and purchased this system up front. The noise level is lower than anything else I have tried. The performance is better than three large power heads that I use to have. The look in the tank is 100% more pleasing then three power heads, and the versatility of the different programs is unmatched. My Tank runs 1.5 Degrees cooler with the power heads gone. That doesn't sound like much but every degree matters in a reef tank. In closing all I can say is don't waste your money. I know this system is a little high in price, but you will turn out like me if you

Comments: I was kinda skeptical that this pump would be enough flow for my 80 gal tank and i was very wrong. One pump is definately more than enough for 4 foot tanks. i have it on 40% and my corals that are on the other side are just blasting. they along with my fish have definately known the difference and sometimes get in front of the pump a love to get blown. def. recommend!! have 2 spare koralias available for sale! haha

<br />Very nifty controller, it can wirelessly sync and run more effectively with multiple pumps, but being as expensive as they are who can afford more than 1?

<br />This is why it's 4 stars instead of 5.

"MP 40"
- Product Review by Louis Briscoe
(Posted on 1/6/12)
-
Comments: At first glance you can see that care and detail went into the development of the MP 40. I would like to provide you with a lot Bla Bla Bla but it is not necessary and I don't want you to waste your time reading reviews like this which have already been stated. The product is most likely the best on the market. The product is solid in its construction and you will see that the performance beats out most other pumps in the same level. The Reef industry is changing and their are a few companies like this that are producing quality products that are geared to performance and quality. The only drawback is that the pump tends to have a hum and if you are not a heavy sleeper it can keep you up (depending on which room it's in). There is a break-in period and the pump will quiet down over time but even still there is a audible sound. I believe the company will correct this in time because there are other pumps which are extremely quiet. The issue is the price. For most people in the hobby this is a huge cost to pay for a pump but this is the price for quality products and service. Don't think twice and buy the MP 40...the value is there and the performance is top quality. You're lucky because the testing has already been done for you and hopefully you don't have a box of old pumps!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Great Flow and Functionality"
- Product Review by Al Schreiber
(Posted on 6/29/11)
-
Comments: Purchased the MP40 about 6 months ago and have been amazed at the flow it proves. Love the wireless functionality/idea and the flow options. Great concepts.
<br />Just be aware of a few negatives: As one review noted, it does "eat" anything floating in the tank as the screen is limited (use the optional foam screen if needed, will slow flow). Since the drive motor is on the exterior you will hear it, it will be noticeable to noisy in a quiet room. Needs occasional adjustments for alignment.
<br />With the noise and high price, I am reluctant to purchase the second one that I had originally intended to purchase.

"Bring on the Flow"
- Product Review by Cristian Dumitrescu
(Posted on 6/23/11)

Comments: I have a 75 gal mixed reef tank. i used to have 3 koralia's running and had decent flow. Even after aquascaping my tank and leaving more space between rocks and back of the tank I still had dead spots. As soon as i put in the MP40 within the first 30 seconds detritus was coming up and around from the rocks and pushed to my overflow. The flow with this thing is great. My corals and fish love it. My SPS have lots of random flow and my fish swim against the current all the time. The only draw back to this is the setup. It can get a little tricky to figure out what all the light mean and to get the right setting that you want. However about half hour should do it. The manual is very easy to understand and apply to the unit. Overall great experience. If you can over look the high price your tank will be thankful.

"MP40 pumps"
- Product Review by Ron Zitzer
(Posted on 4/25/11)

Comments: I really like the EcoTech pump. I purchased two for my five foot tank, they are very quiet and really move the water. They were easy to setup and get running. I have tried out all of the programs, I think the best one is the the Refcrest. Reefcrest has several different pump routines that make for great water circulation plus wave action. The wireless feature is great. I don't need to adjust two pumps just one and the wireless controller then sets the second pump. Well manufactured.

"Works great on my 50g breeder"
- Product Review by Christopher Reed
(Posted on 4/7/11)

Comments: Was uncertain about getting the MP10 or MP40W for my 50 gallon breeder. After getting it setup and configured, which wasn't bad/hard just took some time, I'm glad I went with the MP40W. At night and when I'm not around I keep the strength at 40 percent or below because of the waves on the surface of the tank...don't want any overflow or spillage. When set to full strength it creates PLENTY of current around the whole tank.
<br />
<br />I have my tank setup like a peninsula with the overflow box and returns on one side and the MP40W on the opposite.

"Way Too Expensive"
- Product Review by David Kasten
(Posted on 3/27/11)

Comments: The Ecotech Marine VorTech Propeller MP40 Pump w/ Wireless EcoSMART Driver is a really awesome idea for moving water within an aquarium. If installed in a 150 gallon tank as I did, you will need at least two if not three to get maximum performance. I strongly suggest any aquarist to check into the Hydor Koralia line before committing to the Ecotech! Just on a financial lever the end user will come out ahead and still get great water movement and nutrient flow. Due to the price alone I can only give this product two stars.

Comments: I was skeptical and could not justify buying such an expensive pump until I saw one on my freinds 120 gal tank. My MP make all of my coral sway during wave mode. It looks very natural. I think 2 would be perfect but I actually use Koralia 4s as well on my 120. This pump is well worth the investment if you can afford it.

"Excellent"
- Product Review by Christopher Fitch
(Posted on 2/11/11)

Comments: I actually won an MP40 in a facebook raffle so I cannot complain about the price. Setup was easy and the motor was much quieter on initial start-up than I was lead to believe it would be. It has been running for two day and fits in well, although I do have all my filtration in the cabinet below which is also audible. If it was all tucked away in a separate fish room I would probably hear more of the Vortech but it is by no means annoying. It is moving water very well across my 48" tank. I love the different wave modes, the fact that you can shut it down for a 10 minute feed period with the press of a button, and employ night mood for more gentle currents after the lights go out. Fish and corals seem to love it!

- Product Review by Bryan Ricks

Comments: I have this MP40 in my 90 gal tank and love it. It is super quiet (had little to no issue lining up the two halves). I greatly enjoy the range of speed and flow settings on it, as do my fish. I found that the random setting at about half power is what the fish and environment like best for my setup. I was able to remove two power heads from the tank and achieved a much better flow pattern and increased flow.
<br />It is a bit costly, but I have no second thoughts about the purchase.

"Worth it"
- Product Review by Glenn Hewitt

Comments: I bought this pump for my birthday in April. I am running this solo in a 90 gal sps mixed reef. I prefer running the nutrient transport mode. Short pulse, long pulse waves are generated plus variable speeds of constant stream are generated. I removed 3 internal power heads when I installed this. Not only does it provide enough current at a lower power output and the added bonus of my chiller not firing up during the summer. Although I also employ evaporative cooling. If you have the cash get it. If you don't have the cash sell something and get it. ;)

Very quiet and super powerful, lots of wave making options and love the fact the moter is out of the water. "Multiple units work wonders!"
- Product Review by Rob Wilkinson

Comments: My reef setup is in a 75 gallon Perfecto "Surfline" tank. I have some very intricate rock and coral placement in there due to the opposite curvatures of the tank. I am currently running 2 Ecosmart MP10s (on the same side, spaced about 4" apart) and 1 Ecosmart MP40 on the other side. The maximum GPH flow of the combined MP10's is slightly higher than that of the single MP40. The flexability of these amazing pumps has made my little piece of the reef look fantastic! There are no dead spots (Nutrient transport mode is perfect for my setup) and my fish LOVE the varied flow! My advise to those of you who are on the fence because of price & looking at "100% in the tank powerheads"... TAKE THE THROUGH THE PLUNGE!!! You will NOT regret it.

Comments: This is a phenomenal little pump. I have been using the MP40 Gen2 and just bought this one with the new driver. It is really cool. It makes programing a wave soooo much easier because of the led's which give you a visual reminder of where your wave is set at. You can also save the wave which is a cool function. Just need a 3rd now to get the full benefit of the 2 new modes.

"Perfect Pump"
- Product Review by Tyler Borsack
(Posted on 5/6/10)

Comments: I have recently added the updated MP40ES to my 65g mixed reef. After about a day this pump was running well and almost silent. The MP40 produces a nice wide flow that is powerfull enough to run by itself on smaller systems. The instructions are easy to read and follow, and set up is a breeze. The number of settings/modes on the ES are impressive, each with their own unique uses to fine tune what you are looking for. I highly recomend this pump if you have the extra cash and if you are in the market for a cleaner, clutter free looking pump.
<br />
<br />One star off for the price, but in the end I believe it to be worth the extra cost.
