"LED lights are the future!"

Comments: This purchase of 2 additional Ecoxotic PAR38 3blue/2white LED bulbs puts a total of 6 over my 180 gallon reef tank. I have now eliminated all metal halide bulbs and am down to only 2 96 watt atinic power compact bulbs to compliment the stunning power of these LED bulbs.
The shimmer effect on the water (I feel) is better than the 2 - 250watt and 3 - 150watt metal halides ever produced. The depth penitration does not appear to be as bright but my corals and anenomies dont seem to mind at all.
Previous lights used 1334 total watts vs 126 watts LED watts with 192 watts for 4 power compact = 318 = less energy = less heat = no chiller = less energy = less $$$!
My remaining power compact days are numbered!

Comments: I bought 2 2-royalblue/3-white and 1 3-royalblue/2-white and all I would like to say about the ecoxotic PAR38 is that the color and shimmering effect make my nano reef tank look totally different compared to my t5s. I had some trouble trying to find a way to hang them,..I finally found the "reef clamps" making everything so much easy.,I gave it 4 1/2 stars cause I just have like a week with my par38s and I would like to give it some time to see how my corals respond to the change..

"Ecoxotic PAR 38 LED Lamps"

Comments: I have three of these hanging in $6 pendant fixtures 12" over the water. Tank is 36" long and 24" deep. It took me several months to figure out that how high to have them. At first they were too bright for the coral. Now the coral is thriving. A little more instruction on how to place them would be nice. Love the look and how the coral is doing now.

Comments: Overall very satisfied with the lamps.
Bought lamp stands from Ikea and able to mount them pretty much anywhere. Very bright and relatively low heat on the lamp.
Ordered two lamps of 5x Royal Blue. When received the products, both lamps have slightly different packaging method (one with styrofoam to protect face of lenses, the other only has cardboard). Both packaging labels are 5x Royal Blue, but one turned out to be NOT what I had ordered. Long story short, I got a 5x Royal Blue and a 3xWhite + 2x Royal Blue now.

"Ecoxotic PAR 38 LED"

Comments: This light works great for my 28gallon nano reef tank. Some LED lights can be too strong and harsh for some corals, and lead to algae growth.
This one gives a nice, mild, shimmery light that the corals love. The fixture is tough and hardy, and has not succumbed to salt spray damage, as many of the other lights I have tried have. The only downside is that it is on the small side. I would recommend two of these lights for a 28 gallon tank.

Comments: This light is by far one of the best lights on the market. The white, blue, are powerful and the reds make this light pop. Coral and fish look better than ever. The reds make the orange on my clowns glow, and the reds and purples in my corals come to life. Wish I could add a picture to this posting to show everyone how amazing this light is. By far the centerpiece of my 55g reef. 55g nano reef corner, with the par38 shinning only on the coral. Three trulumen strips lights the rest of tank.

Comments: I am very pleased with the color, the intensity and the shimmer effect. I have placed it about ten inches above the water level of my 12 gallon nano cube. My soft corals seem happy. I plan on trying an small polyp stony coral frag. I wonder if metal halides might become a thing of the past?

Comments: These things really shine! I was very pleased with them. I bought 2 12,000k bulbs and 1 20,000k bulb and you can tell the difference. 12k are white light and 20k you can see more of the blue. I've got them hanging over my 240 Gal. tank about 2-3 feet and there's no problem with them lighting up all the way to the bottom of it.

"PAR38 LEDs"

Comments: I rode the fence for the past several months after replacing my metal halide bulbs again- I was hoping that these (2) would help suppliment my 2 150 HQI MH bulbs and (4) power compact bulbs over my 180 moray reef tank and WOW was I supprised! The shimmer and color is very close to the 14K MHs without the heat. I have now done away with my chiller and am only running a fan here in South West Florida. I am currently rebuilding my canopy and doing away with the metal halides completely and am ordering 2 more LED lamps. The price is a little hi but not having to replace 2 $60 bulbs every 9-12 months will ease the price over time.
If you are thinking of giving them a try- DO IT!

Comments: This lamp really performs, I have it hanging in the center of my 125G between two 250 metal halide pendants. Very bright mix with the blues. No heat build up, solid light.

This is the future of marine lighting, as these become more affordable it could revolutionize the lighting aspect of our hobby.

"Ecoxotic PAR38 LED"

Comments: I got the 20K instead of the 12K. I love the crisp color and the shimmer it provides in my 10 gallon fuge. I am not shining it from above but at a 45 degree angle gives me more coverage in my fuge where I have about 6 RBTA. Before, I was using 2 25W Compact spiral florescent about 10" above the water line. My RBTA would actually stretch all the way to the waterline to get more light. But with this PAR38 bulb at 10" away at an 45 degree angle, my RBTA are nice and tight on the rock with more bulb tentacles.
I believe the PAR is great and the nems get enough light to not need stretching for light. I'm using this on my Fuge.
Also, can't beat the shimmer it gives on the tank where it 'pops'. The cost is a little high and there are cheaper versions out there but their wattage is lower and not using 'CREES'- I doubt if they are equivalent, but I feel that the price spread over a long life time will be worth it (compared to replacing compact spiral fluorescent every 6 months).

For anything more than 12" wide, you'll either have to get wider optics (60 or 80 degrees) or hang the light higher for better coverage.

"PAR38 LED"
- Product Review by Troy Wooster
(Posted on 4/3/11)

Comments: I have both the PAR38 in 12k and 20k, and love them both.
color:
The 12k is a bit more white but its not terribly white. Whereas the 20k is just a bit more blue. There very similar in color with just a slight difference. I would say they both are closer in color to a 14k MH than there 12k/20k titles. I love the color I get though, its much nicer than a MH.
strength:
this I cannot really comment on because I have yet to test the PAR levels, and I haven't thrown anything in the tank yet. From what my experience with lighting tells me ill be fine doing SPS and clams. They will/do spotlight in deeper tanks but shallow tanks shouldn't have this problem.

"worth every penny!!!"

Comments: I bought 4 for my 4', 55 gallon. I am hanging my lights about 10 inches off the water (just how things worked out with my hillbilly engineering). I replaced a 48" 6 bulb t5 fixture. While the look of the PAR38's initially seem less bright, the bulbs are actually MUCH more intense and penetrate way better. The lights are focused and intense, while the t5's just appeared brighter because they were flooding the light all over. Shimmer effects like crazy! The fish in the tank seem to like the focused lighting much better. Even after hours of operation, the lights are barely warm. My corals include branching hammer and frogspawn, zoos, xenia, shrooms, starburst polyps, a few monti's and pocillipora. As long as you take the time to plan out the placement of the coral relative to your lighting setup, you can't lose with these bulbs!

"Cool, easy and simply awesome"

Comments: Well, I went back and forth for a while on whether or not to get these. Finally decided to take the plunge and LOVE them.

The biggest note I can say is that while they look innocent, they sure pump put some PAR! I don't have a PAR meter, but they definitely penetrate the light MUCH more than I thought they would.

I bought track lighting and have these hanging 13" off the water in my 40B tank. I have 3 lights and they are MORE than ample for what I want to do for good coverage, etc. The spotlight at the bottom is about 12" so 3 easily covers the bottom of the tank without issue.

Highly recommend.

Comments: I was using the custom PC lighting that comes with my AIO tank, I decided to improve it with something easy to setup. This lamps are by far the best investment I´ve made lately, they bring up the "real" colors of my corals and now I can place LPS and clams.

"Great Lights"

Comments: I have a double-sided tank with a few areas that were in need of additional light. So far I have used a combination of these lights, the Panorama module retros, and two 250 watt halides for my 240 gallon. Basically this configuration has saved me from having to get a chiller while still giving me the ability to have lots of SPS corals, including many Acros, with no issues. I don't have a way to measure the PAR, but visually the 12K version seem as bright as my halides. I do have an open canopy and so far they have not been affected from the heat of the halides. Since they fit a standard light socket I just modified some Home Depot work lamp fixtures for hanging them.
