Elos Aqua Test Kit - Calcium Information

Product Manuals & Documentation

Make sure that you have provided a healthy water for your fish and reef life by using the Elos Aqua Test Kit - Calcium from Pet Store at home. This product introduces you to an inventive way of testing the condition of your tank by yourself. It will basically inform you if you have enough, too much, or insufficient amounts of Calcium in your water. This will avoid any unnecessary calls to professional aquarists and expensive costs for their service. The Elos Aqua Test Kit - Calcium comes in a set that contains a few test tubes, special chemicals, a color wheel, and a couple of result samples. These four objects are the principal items that you will need to test your aquarium water for the amount of Calcium. For your convenience, a helpful instruction manual is available in the product`s packaging, if you need a quick walkthrough on how to use the equipment. It is quite simple to use, too. All you have to do is gather a small amount of water from your aquarium via the test tube, mix in a small dosage of the formulated chemical, and wait for it to change colors. You can then refer to the color wheel regarding the results that you`ve gotten.

With the Elos Aqua Test Kit - Calcium, you can be sure that your aquarium water is a safe and acceptable environment for your fish to live in.

ELOS AQUA TEST KIT- CALCIUM

Calcium is the primary building block of corals, clams, calcareous algae and many other organisms that we grow in our aquarium. Without adequate supplies of calcium these organism will not flourish and will eventually waste away and die.
The ideal value of calcium for a marine aquarium is between 380-450 mg/Lt (ppm) and for planted freshwater aquarium 100 mg/Lt (ppm). Because of the importance of calcium it is necessary to keep the proper calcium level inside our marine aquariums by testing it with an accurate test kit.

ELOS AquaTest Ca, as well as all the other titrimetric test kit of this line, offer very high accuracy thanks to several procedures including: calibrated lab droppers with consistent and predefined drops of 0.03 ml each, NIST (National Institute of Standard and Technology) certified samples to validate reagents and strict stock management to supply to our customers ONLY the freshest production batch available.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • High quality system: one powder reagent and two liquids!
  • Standard sensibility: 25 ppm of Calcium ions.
  • NIST validation: each batch is validated using NIST (National Institute of Standard and Technology) samples.
  • "C" reagent available as separate sales unit.
  • High number of test per kit: up to 40-50 test depending on Ca level.
  • "Safe reagents": reagents and testing procedures are based on Low Risk Reagents. None of our test kits are based on Toxic Reagents.

Elos Aqua Test Kit - Calcium Reviews

"Best of the Best" - Product Review by Clinton Paquin (Posted on 5/20/12)

    Excellent!

Comments: When you think of quality in a test kit you should think Elos. These guys are the Apple of aquarium test kits. Each kit is the highest quality all the way down to the directions and packaging. Accuracy is second to none and ease of use is the best I've seen. The price might be more than you want to go, but you always get what you pay for.

"Good but messy" - Product Review by Kirill Filippov (Posted on 1/24/11)

    Great!

Comments: This is the most precise test so far (as compared to Salifert, Seachem and API). That being said, it is also the most messy one: no matter how careful you try to be, the sample you are testing will be all over the place. Ditch their test vial and use a different one.

"Good test overall" - Product Review by Brian Chandler (Posted on 12/9/09)

    Great!

Comments: This test is very good overall. The components included are of higher quality than the Salifert test. It does take a little longer to perform than the Salifert, but is likely more accurate and consistent (each batch of reagents checked with NIST). Resolution is 10ppm. I have nothing bad to say about it! Get one!

    Excellent!

Comments: Best test kit i've ever used, compared to API and Salifert this is the best one, i've tryed both of those with inconsistant results and had a harder time trying to maintain the right level's of Ca in the water collum, Elo's Test kits are the best by far and i wouldn't use anything else

"Good kit, NOT ENOUGH REAGENT A" - Product Review by Kirk Melton (Posted on 1/17/09)

Comments: This kit seems to be quite good. Reagent D, included now, reduces the sensitivity level to 10 PPM, versus the old 25 PPM.

MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT, however, is that there is NOT ENOUGH REAGENT A included. Each test requires 7 drops of it, out of a VERY SMALL BOTTLE. The other reagents are more than double the volume of this bottle. I have two tanks, and I test each weekly. This kit lasted only 2 months, as compared to Salifert (back when they used to be accurate), lasting almost 6 using it twice a week. So, I have a ton of the other reagents left, but, am out of the A reagent, rendering it useless.

    Great!

Comments: Coming from API and never using Salifert, I really enjoy these kits.

The written directions and the directions on the back of the card are different so make sure you know what number of drops equals what levels. I had to contact the company and ask via email.

Other than that the kits are great and I will keep using them!!!!!!!!

Comments: Elos is more reliable than Instant Ocean. Instant Ocean was giving me readings that were incorrect.

"Very Poor Product" - Product Review by Brad Armstrong (Posted on 3/22/08)
    Rating
    Unsatisfactory

Comments: This test, like the others made by Elos seem to give incorrect results, are over priced, more complicated to perform (versus API and Seachem) and the lids to the vials do not even fit properly so when they expect you to shake them for 5 full minutes, you end up with about half the water left in the vial then you started with. I am very disappointed with the Elos testing product line.

"Great kit." - Product Review by Todd Anthony (Posted on 2/11/08)

    Great!

Comments: Much easier to use than a kit requiring a syringe to drop the reagent. It was missing the test tube cap but Jesse from Elos has promised to send me a new one.

    Great!

Comments: Reasonably accurate and easy to use. Good color end point. Measures in 25 ppm increments but can be changed to 12.5 by doubling the test sample. This will use more reagent.

"Safety and Sensitivity" - Product Review by Scott Vanzo (Posted on 1/18/08)
    Rating
    Excellent!

Comments: The kit is very easy to use - almost identical to, yet slightly easier than Salifert. Elos goes out of their way to select the safest (affordable) reagents, and insures the consistency (via NIST) and longevity of their reagents through proper storage (until it leaves the reseller). 1 drop of reagent "C" = 25ppm Ca. It couldn't get easier than that.

The only criticism is that the sensitivity (25ppm) is rather crude. There is a Reagent "D" (not included) for more precise testing, but it is not widely available. Too bad there is not a more precise dropper that could reduce the sensitivity to 10ppm. 25ppm is probably fine for general use. Perhaps this will happen in the future, as Elos seems to be very responsive to customer feedback.
