E.S.V. Spray Dried Marine Phyoplankton 1/2 oz. Information

ESV`s Spray-Dried Marine Phytoplankton (SDMP) is the most versatile food available to the reef aquarist. SDMP effectively eliminates the need for purchasing or culturing live phytoplankton cultures for your reef aquarium. Phytoplankton is an important first step in initiating a food chain within your closed ecosystem which more closely simulates a natural coral reef food chain. Daily addition of SDMP will not only directly feed the larger inhabitants of your reef aquarium, but also promote the production of zooplankton which in turn can also be a valuable food source for your reef inhabitants. Depending on the feeding method employed, SDMP functions as a filter-feeder food for corals and other invertebrates, fish food, larval fish and invertebrate food, and an enrichment food for Artemia and rotifer culture. The abundance of Highly Unsaturated Fatty Acids found in this strain of marine microalgae causes the foam in protein skimmers to collapse for a few hours allowing the algae cells longer residence time in your aquarium before being exported by skimming. We provide a measuring spoon with each container. Each level spoon of SDMP contains approximately 60 milligrams which is equivalent to 150,000,000 algae cells! Although the very high levels of Highly Unsaturated Fatty Acids (especially Docosahexaenoic Acid shown to be critical for proper marine larval development) makes SDMP unique, it also functions as a source for the following trace elements, vitamins, amino acids, and minerals: Cobalt, Copper, Iodide, Iron, Manganese, Molybdenum, Nickel, Selenium, Silicon, Tin, Vanadium, Zinc, Vitamins A/E/B12/C, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Pyridoxine, Pantothenic Acid, Biotin, Folic Acid, Choline, Niacin, Aspartic Acid, Threonine, Serine, Glutamic Acid, Proline, Glycine, Alanine, Cystine, Valine, Methionine, Isoleucine, Leucine, Tyrosine, Phenylalanine, Lysine-HCL, Histidine-HCL, Arginine-HCL, Tryptophan, Calcium, Potassium, Phosphorus, Sodium, Magnesium, Sulfur, and Chloride.

SUGGESTED USES: DIRECT FEED FOR FISH, CORALS, AND OTHER INVERTEBRATES: We suggest 1 level measuring spoon (supplied) per 20 gallons of aquarium water per day. Tap the spoon on the top edge of the aquarium and allow the spoon-shaped clump of SDMP to drop onto the surface of the aquarium water. Many fish will attempt to consume these clumps and in doing so will not only be receiving some highly nutritious food, but will also help disperse the SDMP throughout the system. Circulation pumps will further disperse the food. When used in this manner, the average particle size of the product ends up between 10-80 microns. For a smaller particle size (10 microns and less) premix the SDMP in a blender for 1 minute. Fine mechanical filtration should be removed while feeding SDMP.

FISH AND INVERTEBRATE LARVAL CULTURE: We suggest 1 level measuring spoon per 4 gallons of culture water twice per day. Predisperse the SDMP with water for one minute in a blender before use. Aerate culture water sufficiently to prevent low dissolved oxygen levels. Change water frequently to prevent nutrient accumulation.

ARTEMIA ENRICHMENT: After predispersing with water in a blender for one minute, add to Artemia culture at a ratio of 1 level measuring spoon SDMP per 30,000 Artemia nauplii and aerate heavily for 12 hours before using Artemia.

ROTIFER ENRICHMENT: After predispersing with water in a blender for one minute, add to rotifer culture at a ratio of one level measuring spoon SDMP per 200,000 rotifers and aerate heavily for 12 hours before using rotifers. STORAGE: Keep tightly covered and refrigerated when not in use. Keep free from moisture. Never add wet measuring spoon to container.

E.S.V. Spray Dried Marine Phyoplankton 1/2 oz. Reviews

"Great Product!" - Product Review by Matt Parsons (Posted on 4/16/12)

Excellent!

Comments: ESV makes terrific products. This is one of them. If you are keeping corals/filter feeders, this is a must have. I've actually been able to keep New York Bay scallops alive with this stuff. If you have a reef tank, this will feed your copepods and amphipods that will feed your corals and fish.

Great!

Comments: I purchased a coco worm about 2 months ago and already spent $30 on liquid phytoplankton. With the exception of live phyto, which is the best option, I believe that ESV spray dried Phyto (in fact, not phyto at all) is what to go with. It may not be phytoplankton specifically, but it is nutritionally close. Also, the fact that it is in dry form allows for a great shelf life, and cheaper price. I would recommend this to any one wanting to feed their tanks Phytoplankton.

"GREAT STUFF!!!" - Product Review by Spencer Openshaw (Posted on 10/9/10)

Excellent!

Comments: I have tried many porducts including DT's, Marine Snow, ETC.... and by FAR E.S.V. has the best phytoplankton. My fish go crazy over the stuff and I get the most polyp extention from my long tenticle anemone, zoo's, SPS & LPS compared to other products. Plus, this stuff lasts a long time so its cheaper in the longrun.

"So far, so good..." - Product Review by Catherine Mcnamara (Posted on 5/30/10)

Comments: I've only used this for a couple weeks and my corals/gorgs are loving it! When I first put it in it mucks up the tank water pretty good so I'm nervous about what it is doing to my overall water quality. So far, my numbers are stable, I hope it stays that way. Seems to help with my pod population too.

Comments: I have used this for a year in combination with 3 other filter feeder foods and my reef seem to like it. I feed at night about 3 times a week and every organism seem to like it. even the nassarius snails come out of the sand. It becomes a feeding frenzy. The coco worms and christmas tree rock seem to thrive on it. I will continue to feed this to my reef tank.

Comments: I started using this product in my tank a week ago, and my fish seem to absolutely love it. My fish go after it like crack heads. I also have a few anemones and shrimp in my tank also, they obviously dont react as much, but i know they are loving it.

Comments: I have only used this a couple of weeks, and I can already see a big difference in my corals. The fish love the stuff too, which surprised me. They nip at the powery blobs when present. It also does a great job of knocking down the foam on the skimmer when you put it in, so you don't end up skimming it all out as soon as it is in there. The know down only lasts about an hour.
