Placing live rock inside a salt water aquarium has been one of the methodologies that has lead to widespread success within the hobby. The porous open structure of Fiji’s Best Live Rock allows the rock to host a wide array of beneficial bacteria, micro and macro flora which are crucial for biological filtration in marine fish-only and reef aquarium systems. Each box contains rocks in a variety of shapes, colors and sizes.
Most pieces feature naturally formed pores that aid in water circulation and provide natural hiding places for fish and invertebrate. Pieces range from sandy-colored to brown, green, maroon and purple depending on the amount of coralline algae, plant and sponge coverage.
The arrangement of the décor inside your aquarium—the placement of rocks, plants and corals, for example—is typically referred to as the aquascape. Aquascaping your aquarium using Fiji’s Best will allow you to create a natural base to place coral and other invertebrate. Light-loving corals can be placed on higher platforms while low-light or non-synthetic coral can be place midway down, underneath archways or inside caves. Corals that demand different levels of water flow can also be meticulously placed in this fashion.
Buy live rock from Fiji’s Best to add a greater level of biodiversity to your reef aquarium ecosystem. Sponges, plants, starfish, mollusks, worms and crustaceans are common hitchhikers that begin appearing in tanks once the rock has been established. Hitchhikers help your aquarium by filtering water, eating detritus and/or acting as a food source for other animals.
We typically recommend 1 to 2 lbs. of live rock per gallon, depending on the look you’re trying to achieve. Although our Fiji live rock is pre-cured, we recommend
re-curing the rock upon arrival for best results. Pieces may rub against each other during transport so a small bit of rubble might be present inside the shipping box.
Live rock can be secured together inside your aquarium using
reef glues & epoxies, cable/zip ties or plastic pipes to build stunning aquascapes that replicate coral reefs found in nature.
