Comments: Mg mixes at under 1050! Test it for yourself when you get it. That's a lot of dosing to get to 1350. Without the right Mg it hard to keep Ca and KH in check. Even though I have a Ca reactor and dosing Mg and Ca I would rather start with perfect. This is a good product for the money, but not the best.

Comments: You know i dont really want to bash this salt cause i have used this salt for the longest time and i always battled green hair algae!! But i decided to make a switch to Tropic Marin salt and have been using it now for 6 months and let me tell you i will never use anything else but Tropic Marin. If you can afford the extra few bucks for Tropic Marin then i suggest you buy it!! I never have anymore green hair algae problems at all and my coralline algae took off after the switch, also my little sea creatures have never looked better.

Comments: works realy well just don't mix to much at a time i have a 55 gal. tank and the big bio filtering system that holds about 5 gal. so i got the 50 gal.pail and a 25 gal.pail put the 50 gal. pail n and then started mixing the 25 gal.pail and mix alittle to much.but all ion all it is doing great now.

Comments: Great, my main issue with the other salts I have used is that none of them mixes clean. I started with IO in this hobby, but with all the designers salts out there, I decided to try something different. I have come back to IO because it is tried and true still one of the best. Yes, you will have to dose a little more with it if you have a calcium craving system, but you still have to dose with all the salts.

Comments: This was my first time changing the water on the tank myself - I was pretty timid. Instant Ocean is super easy to use.

Comments: I have been using IO for 3 years in my FO tank. I keep Moon Jellies and Inverts and have never had a water quality issue (other than my own mistakes!) This is the only salt I will use. I have tried the rest but will only use the best!

Comments: I'm not a big fan of using salt to buffer water, like many of the newer salts promise, I have a calcium reactor for that. IO is a tested base salt that has lower concentrations of silicates and phosphorus than every other salt on the market. The absence of buffered calcium in "old school" IO also makes it much easier to measure the salinity change newly mixed water produces. (once the water becomes "buffered" the specific gravity reflects in part the hardness of the water as well as the salt content) IO is readily available everywhere and will be for years to come, I've been using it 25 years and have no plans to switch.

Comments: This was the "standard" salt, especially when I was a nub to marine aquaria 8 years ago. But now that I have used others I got a rude reminder why I left this salt - its crap. Sure this salt is ubiquitous, is cheap, seemed OK for my FOWLR tank, and has Nemo on the front suggesting an anemonae would live long in this stuff. It never mixed clear even after 3 days. It left a sediment. It was very low in minerals. It irritated my fish and they showed ich for a few days after. There is ABSOLUTLY NOTHING more important than water quality, which essentially comes down to good RO/DI water and good salt. No more cheap salt for any of my tanks.

Comments: I have had the new salt in my tank and since using this salt my red algae has increased when I had none. I also have calcium problems as well. Unfortunatly this is a major concern for my tank.

Comments: its a great salt if you keep fish only or low demand coral. like me, most hobbyists will want to have nicer coral and have to dose tons of suppliments sps corals require. So all in all its a great salt for fish only but high demand coral will need a higher quality salt. Or just use the io salt and dose tons of suppliments. just prefence.

Comments: We have a 55 gal. aquarium. My wife does the water changes, 12 gals. every 7-10 days. She began this aquarium when I returned from a 5 month hospital stay, in which I had 3rd degree burns, crushed pulvis, amputation of a foot, and many other complications due to an accident w/ an 18 wheel truck. She felt this would be a good hobby that the both of us could enjoy while I continued on recovery which began March of '08. She started off with Instant Ocean as a reccomentation from a trusted fish & supply dealer in Laf., La. and we have had great success and don't plan to use any other salt. I am in charge of all other aspects of the aquarium keeping. After a little over a year and a half we've had terriffic success.

Comments: I made the mistake of trying a different salt mix. It was made by a company with a very good reputation in the industry. However, there is a reason labs use Instant Ocean when testing.
<br />I wanted a quick replacement so I bought a 50 gallon bag. Unlike the 160 gallon pail, there is no reseal mechanism. The salt is the best but I will not buy a bag again unless I need exactly the bag amount.
<br />Would I recommend this to my friends? Only if they were making 50 gallons of sea water or they did not have Instant Ocean to use.
