Many aquariums have a two- or three-step filtration system in place to ensure the cleanliness of the tank water at all times. Mechanical filtration removes unwanted particles that contaminate the water. Biological filtration kills harmful microorganisms that can cause infectious diseases. Chemical filtration breaks down toxic chemicals that can poison
aquatic creatures.
Some aquarists choose to keep a mechanical filtration system in place while alternating between a chemical and biological filtration system. If you want a chemical system in place, Lifegard Aquatics produces chemical filters that you can conveniently use for your aquarium.
Chemical filters work by having a chamber filled with a reactant. This reactant is a chemical that reacts with the unwanted chemicals in the water, causing the latter to break down to simple and harmless forms. For the Lifegard Aquatics chemical filters, this chamber is called the retainer chamber. When it breaks down from regular use, you don’t have to replace the whole system. You can get a replacement for the chamber in the form of the Lifegard Aquatics 9-inch Chemical Retainer Chamber
Pet Store.
The Lifegard Aquatics 9-inch Chemical Retainer Chamber is specifically for use with the single inline chemical filtration systems from Lifegard Aquatics. The cap for the retainer is sold separately.
