"Great UV-ster when not leaking"
- Product Review by Joseph Zeligs

Comments: Out of the box, it leak from top and bottom. After tightening the inconvenient to access stainless 8 steel screws, leaks stopped for about 6 months, then disaster. The gasket ring seems too firm and distorable - I couldn't make it work. Also had problems with bad bulb and bulb socket which wouldn't fit into quartz sleeve. Nice that you can change the bulb without taking down the unit, but instructions suggest you take it completely apart annually for service, that is, removing top and bottom. Wait for a redesign before risking this one.

Comments: Please heed the warning of others, this product is wroght w/ design flaws. Out of the box the box, some of the fittings were warped. A quick bath in hot water was an easy enough fix.Anticipating that there may be a leak issue w/ the seals (as described by others) I first hooked it up to fresh water and cheched for weaks. Wow! Both the upper body gasket and lower body gasket leaked like an old rusty bucket. After trying to find a phillips head screwdriver that would tighten the eight screws ( the best fit was a jewelers screwdriver) It still leaked uncontrolably.

"Nice design"

Comments: The flat design works VERY well for me as I have my 112 gallon tank close to the wall. (I'm hanging sterilizer(s) on back of tank). I have two Eheim pumps and have connected one AquaStep Pro UV Sterilizer. (awaiting arrival of the second sterilizer). I have an African Cichild tank and the water fall, though it is visally appealing, does not agitate the surface sufficiently (fish come to the top for oxygen). I set up a long spray bar along the top rear of the tank, and the resulting surface agitation along with the "water fall" bubbles from the AquaStep Pro is great! Fish are EXTREMELY active. Can't wait to connect second sterilizer to my other Eheim filter!

"Leaks"

Comments: This the second one that I had purchased. About 1 1/2 years ago the one I had started leaking. I removed it and did not replace it right away. I had started having algie problems over the past couple of months so I ordered another UV light. When I reinstalled this one it had a small leak in the bottom seal. I tightened it and the leaking stopped. It was working fine for two days the when I came into my office on the third morning it was leaking again on the bottom seal. Half of my 85 gallon tank had leaked all over my office. I feel that they need to work on the design of the upper and lower seal.

"works great, but poor design"

Comments: I have been having problems with algae and cottonmouth in my tank, and this product looked great. after assembling it, it worked fine for a few days, then one morning I got up , and my carpet was soaked. I immediately shut it down, and checked my connections. The screws that hold the housing were loose. I thin tightened them up, and put it back in service. After a few days of frequent checking, I get a frantic call from my wife stating the unit is leaking again. She shut it down, and carried it downstairs for me to check it when i got home. now, the bottom housing it warped, and the unit is totally unusable. I would be really careful before you purchase on of these. Very poor design.

"Aquastep UV Sterlizer"

Comments: I was sent a sterilizer that had a gapping hole in the sleeve. I was shocked 3 times before my husband found out what the problems was. I could have been killed, but the electricity went down my arm and out through my fingers. Even at that, Pentair wouldn't replace the sleeve. They say it was over 1 month and I probably had it running 6 weeks improperly. I'm really sorry I purchased this product. I still haven't got the new sleeve. My order history shows that it will be shipping soon. I imagine directly from the company. Marine depot has been great about it, but I will never buy anything again from Pentair Aquatics. I hope no one will have to go through the same thing I did. I hope this is printed for Marine Depot Customers.

"A perfect addition"

Comments: I added this UV to my FB-300 fluidized bed by the same company. The install was easy. I know this might sound strange. My mortality rate in my tank dropped to zero. Fish die of old age now. I assume it is killing all the free floating bacteria and viruses that are present in live water I highly recommend this unit as it has had the most significant impact out of any single filter that I have used.

Comments: BOUGHT THIS UV STERILIZER TO REPLACE ONE BY CORALIFE. IT WAS A SNAP TO INSTALL, OUT OF THE WAY, UNDER MY TANK. JUST BUY A GOOD, QUIET POWERHEAD AND SOME 1/2 INCH TUBING AND YOUR IN BUSINESS. TANK NOT ONLY BECAME CRYSTAL CLEAR, BUT FISH SEEM MORE ACTIVE AND HEALTHY. A LITTLE BLUE LIGHT COMES ON SO YOU KNOW IT'S WORKING.I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO ANYONE.

"25W UV Sterilizer"

Comments: The unit itself seems to work fine(hard to tell if it works for sure), but it was hard to install on the edge of the tank with the inflow/outflow attachments. For a tank with a thin lip, it works fine, but for my tank, I couldn't clamp it all the way down or else it would bind the inflow tube into the sterilizer.
