"Just OK"
- Product Review by Larry Singer

Comments: A generous 3.5 stars, but considering the field of thermometers at this price point (they aren't cheap for what you get!), here's how and why I rate it:

Pros
* Accurate enough and more accurate than it's baby brother Little Time or Temp which I found very inaccurate.
* Display very large - oversize to where it looks like a toy, so that's either good or bad (personal taste)
* Alarm settings for low and high temps for room/air and probe.

Cons
* Cord way too short! Mine measured 39". Far too short and inconvenient for my 6g display tank, so I have it measuring temp in the sump inside the display cabinet. That's where the oversize display actually comes in handing but looks rather silly. Really, it I didn't have a sump, I'd have sent it back.

Comments: I've had this in operation for my sump for a long time now (1 year +) and it works as advertised. I've had it long enough now to give it my full recommendation.

"Nice Screen"
- Product Review by Juan Ruiz

Comments: The best part of the package is the easy to read screen, the alert capability is also a nice feature. Just recently installed it, so I can't comment on the overall quality until I build some time with it. Otherwise great so far.

Comments: Seems to be pretty accurate and the alarm feature is great. The wire from the sensor to the unit could be a little longer

"Worth the price!"
- Product Review by Jeff Mittelman
(Posted on 1/15/09)

Comments: This is my second Lifeguard Big Digital--the first one lasted about 8 years. The accuracy of the first one (the in-tank sensor part) slowly drifted over the last couple of years until it was reading 4 degrees to high--that's when I bought the new one. Out of the box, the new one was within 0.2 degrees (F) as measured against an instant read digital surface thermometer. The alarm feature has saved me twice when my heaters failed. I used it in my 125G African Cichlid tank.

There are several digital thermos out there now--this one has all the features I was looking for and it is priced reasonably. The price at MarineDepot is about half that at the local fish store. (I'm not associated with MarineDepot in any way.)

"Reads 2 degrees high"
- Product Review by Daniel Hellin

Comments: Consistently reading 2 degrees high so not great. Display is clear. And the alarms seem to work. I would not rely on this as a primary thermometer as you will need to check if it is off.

Comments: Good day, I like this product, nice design, most important big screen and temp alarm. This is my second of them first one fall down into the tank :-) I dried it out and it looks like it started to work again but it started to show funny tempreture so I get rid of it. NOT WATER RESISTENT :-) Good item overall!

"Good for simple alert"
- Product Review by Loren Rood
(Posted on 4/3/08)
-
Comments: Purchased to use only as an alert, so the accuracy of the temperature reading is not really a problem. The temperature reads 1 degree lower than my main thermometer, but that is easily factored in when setting the alert limits. Setup is very easy. Can't comment on the alert function in real life, but it worked well when I tested it in a glass by adding warm water to room temp water.

"Not accurate"
- Product Review by Martin Trinh
(Posted on 3/13/08)
-
Comments: I had 3 of these and they were not accurate. I had problems with all 3. Sometimes it would show a much higher temp when it wasn't. I had to use 2 different thermometer in each tank that has this thermometer to make sure my water was about right. The alert is great, the outside temp is useful, but the temp for the water always had problems.

"Not Perfect"
- Product Review by Christoher Osburn
(Posted on 3/4/08)
-
Comments: This product is real easy to set up and use. They give you plenty of length in the probe cord and it seems to last a long time on the battery. However, it reads approximately two degrees warmer than it should (I verified it with a lab grade thermometer), and that is pretty much unacceptable to anyone dealing with a reef tank.

"My 2nd (R.L.B.T.A.), but?"
- Product Review by Michael Mitchell
(Posted on 12/12/07)
-
Comments: This is a replacement to a Rainbow Lifegard Big Temperature Alert (R.L.B.T.A.)that I had for a few years.
My Clown Trigger destroyed (ate)the line that went to the sensor into several pieces. Overall I like the (R.L.B.T.A.) very much. The audio temperature alert is awesome and has alerted me when I need to make adjustments to water temperature. The only problem is the temperature calibration is off by -2 degrees, just like my first unit. If you know that in advance you can make your own mental adjustment to the true temperature, but wouldn't it be easier to calibrate the (R.L.B.T.A.) better at the factory? The (R.L.B.T.A.) is still the best thing I can find for the money!

Comments: about 5 min after I put the batt in this I dropped it into the sump. it was still on when I removed it from the water. I opened the case, let it dry and guess what. . . it still works and is dead on temp

The numbers are almost 2inchs tall so they are easy to read at a distance.
I like it!!!
