Milwaukee Seawater Digital Refractometer Information

Product Manuals & Documentation

The new Milwaukee MA887 Seawater Digital Refractometer encompasses 3 different types of user selected scales for the measurement of seawater providing for a much more precise evaluation. Each scale is temperature compensated.

1. PSU – The newest type scale standard – Letters stand for Practical Salinity Units and is fast become the universal standard for seawater measurement

2. ppt – The old standard of Parts Per Thousand of saturated salt. This is the oldest of the 3 seawater measurements scales

3. S.G. The current standard of Specific Gravity hydrometers and refractometers.

The digital refractometer eliminates the uncertainty associated with mechanical refractometers and is easily portable.

Simple and easy to use! Samples are measured after a simple user calibration with distilled or deionized water. Within seconds, the refractive index and temperature are measured and converted in to one of three popular measurement units. Temperature is also displayed on the large dual-level display.

The Milwaukee Instruments MA887 digital refractometer is easy to calibrate and easy to read and provides highest accuracy possible for the measurement of seawater 3 specific scales. This is the type of accuracy demanded by today’s professionals and Milwaukee Instruments delivers.

"Easy to use and accurate!" - Product Review by James Peterson (Posted on 7/3/12)

Excellent!

Comments: I bought this because I was tired of it taking me 5 mins per gravity test with the traditional swing arm hydrometer. The slowly adding water and knocking bubbles of the arm to get a good reading was driving me nuts, not to mention i was constantly worried I was getting a bad reading. So i bit the bullet and bought this, and I couldn't be happier with this purchase, its easy to use and gets the job done quickly and painlessly. Just don't forget to to zero it each time with distilled water. It says once a day when you use it, but having dealt with refractometers a lot (I have a biology/Chemistry degree) you really need to do it each time and properly dry it before you test. But it is still very quick and easy to use!

Comments: I had been using a swing-arm hydrometer and read a lot about a refractometer and purchased this. What a good investment. Very easy to read, clean up, and use.I had a few questions, and contacted Customer Service and they promptly answered my questions.I definitely recommend this. Well worth the money!

"best ever" - Product Review by Otis Glamore (Posted on 5/15/12)

Excellent!

Comments: After using standard refractometers and having to calibrate every time and find a light source that you could actually read from, this device is a miracle. Totally simple to use and completely consistent. I would recommend this to any serious reefer.

"Fastest Refractometer Around" - Product Review by Robert M Denton (Posted on 5/4/12)

Comments: This instrument is indeed "simple and easy to use". It takes just seconds to calibrate and just seconds to test a water sample. So, I now have a number of salinity testing devices to sell off...
