Poly Filter 4 x 8 Information

The POLY-FILTER is for filtering and purifying both fresh and salt water aquariums. It is a formulation of a special patented material bonded to a synthetic matrix. By means of a unique proprietary process, the POLY-FILTER is made impervious to salt and is also organic loving to certain materials. It can absorb and adsorb contaminants and other toxic materials found in nature or added to fresh and salt water with or without fish and invertebrates. Medication added to fresh and salt water aquariums for treatment of diseased fish will automatically be removed by the POLY-FILTER after serving their intended purpose before the medication can produce a toxic effect on the fish.

The POLY-FILTER is non-toxic and harmless to biological filtration because it allows a sufficient amount of ammonia to reach the biological filter in order to sustain the bacteria culture. The POLY-FILTER provides a supplemental means for removal of ammonia when the biological filter is unable to break down the excess ammonia and its concentration increases rapidly. Then the POLY-FILTER adsorbs the excess ammonia while the biological filter readjusts to higher ammonia input levels. Changes color when exhausted. 4" x 8".

Poly-Filter
Operating Instructions

Freshwater Application:
Add Poly-Filter to any holder or apparatus at any time.

Establishing Marine/Reef system:
Add Poly-Filter so water can pass through it.
For Maximum Filtration: Eliminate all water bypass.

Poly-Filter in established marine & freshwater systems:
 • Conventional power filter: Place Poly-Filter on bottom plate. Cover with gravel or floss. Do not restrict flow.
 • Plastic undergravel filters: Place Poly-Filter on top of the undergravel plate. Cover filter and plate with gravel.
 • Canister-type power filters: Place Poly-Filter in the chemical filter compartment. Add floss according to manufacturer’s instructions.
Medication removal (parasite and antibiotic treatments):
Remove Poly-Filter from water before any type of medication is added. Follow medication instructions issued by the manufacturer. After treatment is complete, place Poly-Filter back in the water to remove traces of medication. Test water for safe levels. When safe, remove discolored Poly-Filter, dry and save for next medication. Place new Poly-Filter in the water for removal of conventional organics and water purification.

Adding vitamins and trace elements:
Remove Poly-Filter from water before adding vitamins or trace elements. After 12 hours place Poly-Filter back into water. Poly-Filter will not remove calcium, magnesium, strontium, barium or alkalinity supplements. Poly-Filter will not remove trace elements included in marine salt mixtures.

General maintenance comments:
Poly-Filter turns color when removing medications. Aqua to Dark Blue: Copper or Copper salts. Orange: Iron. Bright Red: Aluminum. Bright Yellow: Ammonia, Amines or Solvents. Dyes: Color of the solution when added i.e. Methylene Blue: Pale Blue. Malachite Green: Light Green, Tannins/Humic acid: Dark Brown, Organic Wastes: Light Tan progressing to Dark Brown. Poly-Filter extends time between water changes. Add de-chlorinated water to make up for evaporation loss. If pH shifts below acceptable level change water and add a new Poly-Filter. Heavy slime producing water conditioners can surface coat Poly-Filter and interfere with absorption performance. In marine water, soak in 3% hydrogen peroxide then rinse (in freshwater) well. In freshwater soak in 10% marine salt water solution then rinse (in freshwater) well.

Excellent!

Comments: This is the best filter you can buy. It is a little pricey, but worth it. It will eliminate all traces of medication, nitrates, phosphates, amonia, coral warfare chemicals (for lack of a better term). It turns dull water crystal clear. It is also reusable! You will know what the filter removed from your tank by the color it turns. I highly recommend this.

Comments: Every aquarist should have some in stock for the 'bad moments'.

I've used this for QT to make sure ammonia and other containments are always in checked.

I've also used this to remove copper from my tank after treatment of ICH and it did a great job.

The different colors that it changes is awesome in telling you what was removed. When I removed copper, it was a dark blue. Other times, it'll just be a brown for organics.

As to run 24/7, it would be an expensive filter media, but you can leave one in your tank just you need to setup a QT quickly.

Comments: I pride myself in providing the best water quality possible for my marine inhabitants. I was a little skeptical about buying one of the poly filters, but finally did after reading some of the online reviews. I am very very happy I did. Within 48hrs my tanks were noticeably clearer, especially in my sea horse tank. I am very impressed with this product and now use it on all of my tanks. Even my LFS is now using it in all of their display tanks! They have enough confidence in the product to use in a tank with $10K in corals!

Comments: I have been using this product for years. It is a very good micro mechanical filter. I use it as the last mechanical filter in my sump. This helps eliminate air bubbles in the tank return.

Comments: I've been using this product for a few years now and it really does what it says. The filter material changes color according to the substance it is absorbing. I have a small reef tank that can't support protein skimming, so I use Poly-Filter instead.

Comments: I had read alot of good reviews of the poly filter so I figured I'd give them a try. I had treated my Fowlr with copper and had some phosphate issues with my tap water. I've sinced switched to a RO/DI system so I've reduced my phosphates quite abit. I also had a slight yellow color.
Since adding the poly filter the copper has been reduced almost completely. I didn't see a dramatic reduction of phosphates. It didn't really remove much color though. All in all it worked ok. I will mostly try a carbon based pad next since it's so much cheaper and just as effective.

Comments: I've only had the Poly-Filter in my tank for a few days but I've rinsed it out twice and I'm quite surprised at how it has discolored in such a short time. So, I think that it's doing a bang up job! The tank looks good and the critters seem happy.

Comments: I started losing snails left and right so I decided to do a Cu test. I had .5 ppm of Cu in my system. Within four days of using this pad my Cu was at 0.0ppm. Excellent product and well worth the money.

Comments: I've been using them for many years. With my larger tank I have found the 12X12's to be more convenient. Also I read recently that they're more of an industrial strength than the smaller ones. Is this true? I do seem to be getting longer life and that's a plus for me. I always recommend them when someone asks about my filter system.

Comments: I would highly recommend poly-filters, I have been using them to reduce the copper in my aquarium that was added by the copper in my plumbing in my house. They turn blue for copper and I am amazed at how much they have reduced the copper level in my aquarium. Excellent product. Thanks Tonya

Comments: I've heard a lot of praise online for Poly Filters, but I honestly didn't notice much difference in my tank as a result of using it. However, I admittedly don't have a lot of phosphates, nitrates, etc. to remove in the first place.

I'd say it's a little easier to work with than the Pura Pads and slightly less prone to clogging, but not by much at all. If you're on the fence between the two, the Pura Pads will probably deliver the same results for less money. Still, a decent product.

Comments: It must 've worked good since within a week it turned brown. I must have had a lot of bad things in the water (ammonia, etc) that it sucked up. Next it should turn black, and per the instructions the life cycle it done and you throw it away. just wondering how long my second one will last...
