Seachem Laboratories Flourite Black Substrate - 7Kilograms / 15.4 lbs Information

Choose the best substrate in you aquarium and try the proven effective Seachem Flourite Black from Pet Store. This substrate is packed in a 7-kg. (15.4 lbs.) bag that is usually enough to be placed in a large aquarium. This substrate is a finely ground porous clay gravel that has a stable dexterity ideal for use in a plant only or plant and fish aquarium. The black color of the gravel gives the aquarium a beautiful appearance and even reflects the colors of the plants planted to it more vividly.

The fluorite black is also effective in securely positioning the plants and other ornaments. It even mimics the color of the sea water bed, and it creates a natural sea habitat in your aquarium. Another good thing about using this substrate is that it does not alter the pH and KH levels of your aquarium water. It is, thus, safe to use.

The Seachem Flourite Black is already pre-washed so that it is ready to use. You may opt to rinse dirt out of it should you wish to. When pouring water to the substrate, it is recommended that you fill the tank slowly. The fluorite black provides your aquarium a great aquascape for your fish, plants and ornaments to enjoy.

Flourite™ is a specially fracted stable porous clay gravel for the natural planted aquarium. Its appearance is best suited to planted aquaria, but may be used in any aquarium environment. Flourite™ is most effective when used alone as an integral substrate bed, but it may be mixed with other gravels. Gravel modifiers such as laterite are not necessary. Flourite™ is not chemically coated or treated and will not alter the pH of the water. Although pre-washed, it should be rinsed before use to remove residual dust. Dust can also be minimized by filling tank slowly and dispersing water so that the Flourite™ bed is not disturbed. Slight initial cloudiness is normal and will clear rapidly (2–12 hours). This bag is sufficient for about a 5 cm (2 inch) deep bed in a typical 40 L (10 gallon) tank. Recommended use is 1 kg (2 lbs) for approximately each 200 cm2 (31 in2) of tank bottom at a depth of 5 cm (2 in).

Although planted aquariums are often considered to be too difficult for the beginning hobbyist, we believe that planted aquaria are actually ideal for the beginner. With the right substrate the beginner can have a successful aquarium with a minimum of maintenance. As the beginner becomes more comfortable in the hobby they will feel inclined to experiment a bit and thus build on the solid foundation they have already established.

It won`t always be necessary to dose your aquarium with each of the products in the Flourish line, but as an example, we have developed one possible dosing regimen using all of our plant products. This is by no means the only way to dose your aquarium; it is merely a suggestion. Your dosing regimen will depend greatly on a variety of factors, including lighting, initial water quality, how heavily stocked your aquarium is, substrate selection, and types of plants; so don`t be surprised if getting the results you want takes a little experimentation.

Comments: I took other people's advice and put it all in a old pillow case (use an old one as you wont want to keep it after) and stuck my shower head in to wash the dust out. It probably ran about an hour before the water ran clear. With this technique there was minimal dust in my tank and the water was crystal clear after filling it (make sure you pour the water on a plate). It looks amazing in my tank. My cherry shrimp really stand out against the black and my plants seem to love it!

Comments: one of bags I've got had bunch of other small stones in different colors, too bad I realized that when dumped everything together, now, to get nice clean BLACK I have to pick that garbage piece by piece which is pretty annoying - it really looks like construction trash other than that it is great... so careful and check every bag before putting in to mix

Comments: I use this for all my planted aquariums with great success. I particularly like the black because it makes the plants really stand out. This is an easy recommendation. Also, the service and prices at petstore.com was top notch.

Comments: Very good substrate. Color is black to grayish black. 3mm size and will not affect pH. Be sure to wash before using. I needed six bags to fill my 55 gal about 3 inches.
