Comments: For everybody out there who says this is garbage are all wrong the only downfall is that it is a little noisey but this little skimmer skims like a champ.just remember that when you buy a new skimmer it takes anywhere form a couple of days up to about two weeks to break them in and as for adjustments i set mine once and dont have to worry about it.

"okay for small tank"
- Product Review by Jeffrey Howard
(Posted on 1/2/12)

Comments: at first it does put micro bubbles in the water, but it quit once it broke in. it also does best with a steady water level like in a sump. the ad says up to 90, but the box only says 40. it is easy to adjust and skims well, once broke in. it just isnt very big.

"It Works Great!"
- Product Review by Jason Brown
(Posted on 11/24/10)
-
Comments: I have used the Prizm Deluxe on a 40gal reef for 2 years now. Here are a few things I found helpful, adjust the water flow so the bubbles are around the same height as the O-ring( let it run for a hour or two then check/adjust to this height again and it will stay there). Also add a new longer air intake tube with a air flow control valve ( this reduces allot of noise and gives you more control over the kind of foam you want ). This skimmer works great as long as you set it up properly and clean the collection cup every few days.
If you use the Media basket like I do make sure water flows through it easily and check it often.

"garbage"
- Product Review by Dan Paymar
(Posted on 2/22/10)

Comments: i had one of these on my last tank. it requires constant adjustment to maintain proper skimming. more often than not it just over flows with water unless perfectly adjusted and if your water level drops then you're screwed and have to readjust again. i also had some very close calls with this thing because if it it fills up the water begins leaking down the back of your tank causing a major mess and in my case ruined the dry wall behind my tank and could have easily started an electrical fire had i not caught it in time. don't buy this thing. that's my best recommendation.

Comments: This is a Ok skimmer for a smaller tank. I have had one on my 30 gal and 20 gal reef tanks. It will pull out Junk but it needs to be re-primed weekly as Air bubbles accumulate in the intake U tube. One thing really nice about this though is it only takes up a small amount of space. I dont know of another skimmer so skinny. It also is nice that it has overflow safety.

"Pay Attention"
- Product Review by Thomas Berwick
(Posted on 5/12/09)
-
Comments: Pay attention when assembling this unit. The O-Ring at the bottom of the motor is very easy to move out of its groove when you assemble. You'll discover this when the unit starts dropping water behind your tank if you didn't fill it up before attaching to your tank. High recommended procedure. Also, don't expect much but watery skimmate until the unit breaks in and builds a little crud in the exhaust port. Seems to be pretty particular about water level so some sort of water level controller is highly recommended as well. All-in-all, not a bad compact skimmer.

"Good Skimmer"
- Product Review by David Pollard
(Posted on 3/27/09)
-
Comments: I have had reef tanks for over 13 years. I think this skimmer works pretty well for a small tank. I have used it as it is made and have used it just sitting in the sump. I think it works pretty good out of the box. I have modified mine so it works even better. If you read the instructions you will find a little hose goes there for the air intake. It makes it a lot quieter and works as an emergency shut off. Very cool design. Had that been hooked up, the air to the skimmer is shut of by the water in the collection cup and the skimmer does not produce bubbles and CAN NOT over flow. A great product.

Comments: I like the Prizm beacuse it's so easy to use. I looked at a lot of places on the internet and read a lot about it, and other protein skimmers, before I bought this one. I don't know alot about this hobby yet but learing and this seemed to be a easy one to use and plus I didn't have to get a pump or powerhead to use with it. I know it's not the best but it can't be to far behind?

- Product Review by Bradford Sterling
(Posted on 1/22/09)

Comments: I have had this skimmer on my 29 gal for 3 years now. I feel it does a very good job but you do need to adjust it frequently. As far as my tank goes, I only have 4 fish and mostly softies for now but if my tank was any bigger or if I had more of a bioload I would recommend a better skimmer. I frequently test for nitrates and phosphates which are barely detectable. I also like the low profile design and I haven't had any problems with the pump or impellar.

"Flood maker"
- Product Review by Ray Poorman
(Posted on 10/17/08)

Comments: This skimmer has several issues. It is prone to algae growth on the intakes, and outflows that have to be cleaned. It has to be taken completely off the tank and emptied out, and a full cleaning is a nightmare. The capture tank is very small, and adjusting the skimming is flakey at best, put in any additives and the thing is overflowing. The worst part is, when the capture basin fills, it just pumps water in a circle through the capture basin, but it also leaks by the o-rink and through the top dumping water on the floor, I had 10 gallons go through my ceiling when my daughter came home. I don't trust any device that dumps water on my floor.

"lots of questions"
- Product Review by Kenny Parolini
(Posted on 9/13/08)

Comments: I installed my Prizm pro about a month ago on my 180 reef tank with about 3-400 pounds of live rock. Previously I was using a Turbo-Flotor which seemed Ok but not great.
Since adding the Prizm it has pulled out about two teaspoons of gunk in the whole month. I am also running a Turbelle wave box that keeps thing stirred up.
I have read and reread the skimpy directions and just can't get any more out of it no matter how I adjust it.
Admittedly the Turbo Flotor hasn't done much either. Possibly it is due to the PURA Phos-Lock phosphate remover that I just started using at the same time.
Today when checking it over I noticed that the throat that the skimmer cup fits into had cracked but that would not affect anything.
I do have to say that the container for additives is a very handy feature and certainly the water flow is excellent.
If I could find a contact at PRIZM maybe I could clear things up- maybe not. I have to reserve judgment until I get more evidence.
I am not pretending that this is a fair evaluation- I just can't get the results others have gotten. It does seem that most buyers are in the same boat as I am.

"Great for price"
- Product Review by Ron Hausner
(Posted on 8/29/08)

Comments: I have had this skimmer for over four years in my 55 gal reef tank and it has definitely served its purpose. I have seen many complaints in the reviews and don't completely agree with all of them. Maybe some people were dropped on their heads to many times as children and just can't figure out how to work this simple skimmer. Helpful hints: It is important that the water level in the tank is kept high enough so that the skimmer doesn't have to work as hard against the force of gravity. It is also important to clean the skimmer and all of the pipes and tubes at least once a month. About once a year I change the plastic tubing and it greatly enhances the skimmer's performance. I also bought the surface skimming upgrade a couple of years ago which came with a new inlet pipe. Changing the inlet pipe also rejuvenated the skimmer to its original performance level. I would definitely recommend the skimmer upgrade but would buy it separate because you get it for the same price while getting an extra inlet pipe. The skimmer is a little loud (very tolerable), however, the propeller design on the newer models has improved this problem (just bought my second one). The skimmer also works very poorly when it is not clean and when the water level is low

"Ok for Some Applications"
- Product Review by Toby Vyvjala
(Posted on 8/21/08)

Comments: The Red Sea skimmer is "ok" at best when you consider its performance over time. I have had (2) for several years now and I have mixed feelings about the product. Out of the box they are easy to install and remove a fair amount of waste after a little tweaking. However, over time the air intake will clog and you must take the entire filter completely apart to clean the line that is 'very' prone to clogging (salt buildup and hard water deposits). No air flow means no filtration. You will also become frustrated with constantly having to make adjustments to the air/water flow mixture to avoid having bubbles litter your main tank. If you do not have a sump and don't mind the sight of this product on the back of your tank it is a reasonable buy to remove waste from your system without the cost of a professional setup. However, if you have a sump I would invest a little more money and just get a professional protein skimmer because you will end up upgrading like I am about to do after a few years. If you do buy this product be sure and buy the media basket (good choice) but please note the overflow upgrade kit is not worth the money (because of its size and design it does not work as it should).

"Almost an electrical fire."
- Product Review by Michael Attewell
(Posted on 7/25/08)
-
Comments: This skimmer has performed inconsistently for me for the past year and a half on my 36 gallon tank. It seems that if it is tuned just right it seems to make some skimmate. Tuning is a gamble and I am lucky if I can get it tuned. I have had this skimmer flood on me and almost start an electrical fire. If I would have known before I purchased this skimmer, I would have chosen a different one. I am now looking at purchasing a totally different skimmer. I will not be going with any Red Sea Skimmers again.

- Product Review by Michael Cranney
(Posted on 5/8/08)

Comments: My first skimmer and I am very impressed. It is very simple to set up and maintain. I had no problems obtaining skimmate. Replaced my filter with this product and now maintain zero nitrates and nuisance algae is subsiding. The surface skimmer attachment is a little large for my 20 gallon reef but it seems to enhance skimming and protect tank inhabitants from the pump intake. I also enjoy the included media basket which I have been using with the included carbon, however I will be replacing with ROWAPhos. Also, the only audible noise from the skimmer is sound of the water foaming.

Comments: I have two tanks a 30 gallon and a 50 gallon. i put a coralife skimmer on my 50 and was never that impressed. i always thought it was extremely difficult to use and neve created that much skimmate. I bought this Prizm Skimmer not to long ago for my 30 and i have had more skimmate already from it running maybe for a month than from my coralife that has been running for a year. i am planning a new tank and i am buying another one it is so great. yes i would recommend this to my friends without a thought.

Comments: loud, not that easy to clean, have to keep adjusting almost 2 times a day.

my first skimmer...it wont make a difference if you buy the deluxe or regular...infact i got the deluxe and took the surface extractig cup off since water will stop going in if it drops even a millimeter.

floded my livingroom twice.

got it to work right for about 2 days out of the 6 months i used it the mods for it dont help it perform much better and i thought the plastic was to thin and that made it loud.

i suggest a remora with an mj1200.

or maybe a bak-pak model.

save your money theres plenty of people giving this skimmer a bad review. take the hint

"Great skimmer at a great price"
- Product Review by Sarah Wenrich
(Posted on 3/2/08)

Comments: Needed to replace my Coralife Super Skimmer Needle Wheel Protein Skimmer (65gal unit). It was to small for my new larger tank. Not to mention that it's settings are picky and the unit is very loud. After reading many reviews on the internet trying to figure out what skimmer to get. I decided to try the Prizm Deluxe. Out of the box, installed and running, it is a little noisy (air intake). I added an air silencer and WOW what a difference. It is set up on my 75 reef and the large collection cup only needs to be emtpied once to twice a week. Great skimmer at a great price, I am glad I went with this unit.

Comments: First skimmer I bought when getting into hobby. Produces dark skimmate, but adjusting can be a hassle. Soaked the carpet quite a few times when changing salt water or when water intake was set to high. Loud motor and getting replacement parts a hassle. Finally after letting it collect dust modded it to use Mag 350 pump with gate valve to control water intake. Works like a charm now.

Comments: I am new to the hobby and just broke in my first tank, which is a 28 gal. The red sea skimmer has been doing its jog so far. It produces a fair amount of dirty brown foam every day so long as it is adjusted properly. I do have to watch when I do a water change and it seems a bit noisy to me. Over-all, I have yet to have any problems with this product.

"OK skimmer"
- Product Review by Kent Wong
(Posted on 11/27/07)
-
Comments: I had this skimmer for about 2 years in my 10 gallon tank w/ a heavy bio-load. Every week, I find it half filled with light brown watery waste. I rarely find dark gunk in the collection cup and if i do, it's no more than a inch of dark gunk per week. The skimmer requires fine tuning everyday for proper skimming. I find two major problem with this skimmer: 1)the reaction chamber isn't sufficient for the micro-bubbles to make proper contact with the waste 2)the location of the impeller which pulls the water instead of pushing the water. The water level in the aquarium can affect both the air-to-water ratio and the water level in the reaction chamber. This skimmer is OK for 15 gallons or less.
