Keeping the water clean should be one of your primary concerns when you`re taking care of an aquarium
. Regularly changing the water is not enough. You have to make sure that the water is healthy for your fish and reef corals in between changes, especially when there are a lot of ways water can get dirty.
One example of dirt accumulation you`ll have to deal with is the build-up of protein on the surface of the water. The protein, when it becomes thick enough, can completely cover the water at the top layer. This prevents enough light and air from entering the water, both of which aquatic creatures need in order to survive.
The good news is that you don`t have to manually scoop out the protein film. You can use the Reef Octopus Recirculating Protein Skimmer from Pet Store
. It is made with durable acrylic to minimize breakage. It is also equipped with a high-quality feed pump with a venturi design so that water can be fed into the skimmer, which forms bubbles once filled with water. Residual protein sticks to these bubbles. Once the bubbles travel to the top layer of the cylinder and burst there, the residual protein that was stuck to them gets collected in a cup. All you need to do is take out the cup and throw the contents out.
The Reef Octopus Recirculating Protein Skimmer makes cleaning up so much, well, cleaner! You`ll be amazed at how fast and easy it is to do this once inconvenient task.

The Reef Octopus® skimmers are powered by the Hailea OTP pumps. They are built with high quality acrylic. The skimmer has a wedge pipe output which allows for more adjustment of the skimmer compared to ball valves. The collection cup has a quick release neck for easy removal for cleaning. It requires 1/2 inch of clearance to remove the cup. The Octopus skimmers uses metric plumbing parts. The pump has an improved venturi design and pinwheel impeller. The DNWB skimmer requires a feed pump to feed water to the skimmer. The recommended maximum flow rating for this skimmer is 400gph. These numbers are based on zero back pressure on the output plumbing. If you add 90 degree bends on the plumbing back to a sump you may need to back off the amount of water being feed through the skimmer. We recommend that you use a ball valve inline from your feed pump to the skimmer allowing you to control the water flow.
