It is a porous inorganic solid about 4 mm in diameter. It does not require a special denitrifying filter or special culture feedings. It is also helpful in controlling nitrite and ammonia. The surface area characteristics of de*nitrate are similar to Matrix, making de*nitrate an effective support for the biological filter. Each liter treats up to 100 gallons. Excellent!

Comments: Seachem's products are the most advanced in keeping fish in their best shape for showing and pleasure. Use and look at all their products; they have a terrific staff available through the old device called a telephone !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Highly recommend their other buffers and ph regulators.

Excellent!

Comments: I use this product even on my fish only set-ups. Works great to drop the nitrates and other chemicals out of water. I use in combo with chemi-pure elite and my chemistry is stable in all my set ups.

Great!

Comments: I have an overstocked 300 gallon tank, the SeaChem de*nitrate works very well in conjunction with water changes to keep my nitrates in the 30 ppm range. I would be much higher if it weren't for Seachem. Thanks.

Great!

Comments: This product does actually work. I put a small bag in the sump area where the water must go through it to get to the return pump and its been working beautifully. Its slow... very slow actually. But my nitrates were around 80 ppm and now they are 50. Thats over a 4 day time span.

Its continuing to go down with out water changes and everything else, so just make sure to give it time if you go this route.

"Not working for me" - Product Review by Jeff Mcleroy (Posted on 6/15/11)

Unsatisfactory

Comments: Did nothing to lower nitrates in my tank as I have done water changes every 3 days to help. I bought this product and it did nothing to lower nitrates.

Nothing is going to beat water changes. BTW my water became cloudy (I got a very active Picasso lol) and it did not clear my water. I put a 10 gallon hang in filter with carbon and in a day, that cleared it up, NOT Denitrate. So it does nothing

Comments: Product works really well. I put half a liter put in my canister filter. I have a 50 gal that I'm using it on. I had tried different things and couldn't get my nitrates down. I kept doing water changes and everything. My nitrates were always at 20 and now they are at about 5. Once you start to use it I recomend that you do a 25% water change. Because that's when I actually saw my results kick in and actually stay this time.

"Go away Nitrates!" - Product Review by Colton Stiffler (Posted on 9/16/09)

Excellent!

Comments: I was a little skeptical about adding Seachem Denitrate to my system. After 5 days of passing water through this stuff, my nitrates went from >20ppm to an undetectable level!!! I almost didn't believe my eyes, and a second test verified that the nitrates had been eliminated. My fish, corals, and inverts all look happy which in return makes me happy. Thanks Seachem!

Comments: I was leary as to whether or not this product would work, as I read mixed reviews on all denitrate products. Some say they work, some say they are a waste of money. I have had nitrates of 5-10 for 6 months. Reduced feeding and rinsed food well, and still tested at 5-10 for nitrates. Added 1/2 Liter of this product to my phosphate reactor (keep the flow very slow through the reactor), and retested nitrates 10 days later, and they tested 0. That's the first time I've tested 0 for nitrates in my tank in the past year. So for me, it's proof that this stuff works!

"Forebearance required" - Product Review by Michael Allweiss (Posted on 11/13/08)

Great!

Comments: In my experience with this product it takes about 2 weeks to reduce the Nitrates in my 55 gallon reef tank from 18ppm to the 4-5ppm Nitrate target level. If you're late changing the De-Nitrate, and they spike, you end up doing water changes to get under 20 ppm before reloading the product - and waiting 2 weeks for it to work. SO.. replace the De-Nitrate on time to maintain low levels!

I plan to continue using De-Nitrate because in the end it's effective, safe for clams, and as a bonus makes running my carbon canister unnecessary. It costs me about $3 a month with no regeneration cycles required, so it's less hassle than any of the alternatives I looked at... IF you always replace the product on time and keep a good flow running through it.

Comments: This product is excellent! I haven't used other products so I can't compare. It really works to bring down nitrate levels. Mine went from 20-40ppm to 5-10ppm after a few days. I used about 1-2 liters in my 75g tank.

Excellent!

Comments: I have been battling nitrate problems for years. Some of it was self imposed as I like to feed my fish. But even after I quit feeding so much, I still had problems with nitrates. I have a 125 gallon salt water tank that was my greatest concern. I bought this product and a media bag and put it in the sump on top of the bio balls. I just completed two 25% water changes a few days apart and then used this. I tested the water two days later and FINALLY the nitrates are down! I am extremely pleased and so grateful. I definitely recommend this product.

Comments: I love deNitrate. It is the best Media I've found for Nitrate reduction. I use it in a canister filter with Matrix for a great nitrogen cycle biological filter.

Excellent!

Comments: I keep a 40 gal reef and my nitrates have hovered around 20 for the longest time. I put .5L of de*nitrate in a phos-reactor and it has been running for a little over a week and nitrate tests at .5!
