Seachem Laboratories Flourite Black Sand - 7Kilograms / 15.4 lbs Information

Create an elegant aqua scape in your aquarium by simply using the right substrate. Use the Seachem Flourite Black Sand from Pet Store, and your tank will instantly look attractive. Made from grounded gravel with porous clay, this sand is extra fine, and its level dexterity is ideal for a plant only or a combination of plant and fish types of aquarium. The black sand matches and even enhances the colors of the plant and fish thriving in the tank. It gives your aquarium a striking appearance and reflects the colors of the plants planted as the aquatic habitat is exposed more vividly.

This substrate is easy to maintain and clean with regular vacuuming. It can effectively hold the plants and other ornaments in their proper places. Its look mimics the appearance of the real, marine bed and depicts a close to natural sea habitat in your aquarium. This substrate is safe to use because it does not alter the pH and KH levels of the aquarium water.

The Seachem Flourite Black Sand is available in a seven-kilogram or a 15.4-pound bag, which is already pre-washed and ready to put directly into your tank upon opening. You may rinse the dirt out, if there`s any. The home of your fish, plants and other inhabitants is better with this substrate around.

Flourite™ is a specially fracted stable porous clay gravel for the natural planted aquarium. Its appearance is best suited to planted aquaria, but may be used in any aquarium environment. Flourite™ is most effective when used alone as an integral substrate bed, but it may be mixed with other gravels. Gravel modifiers such as laterite are not necessary. Flourite™ is not chemically coated or treated and will not alter the pH of the water. Although pre-washed, it should be rinsed before use to remove residual dust. Dust can also be minimized by filling tank slowly and dispersing water so that the Flourite™ bed is not disturbed. Slight initial cloudiness is normal and will clear rapidly (2–12 hours). This bag is sufficient for about a 5 cm (2 inch) deep bed in a typical 40 L (10 gallon) tank. Recommended use is 1 kg (2 lbs) for approximately each 200 cm2 (31 in2) of tank bottom at a depth of 5 cm (2 in).

Although planted aquariums are often considered to be too difficult for the beginning hobbyist, we believe that planted aquaria are actually ideal for the beginner. With the right substrate the beginner can have a successful aquarium with a minimum of maintenance. As the beginner becomes more comfortable in the hobby they will feel inclined to experiment a bit and thus build on the solid foundation they have already established.

It won`t always be necessary to dose your aquarium with each of the products in the Flourish line, but as an example, we have developed one possible dosing regimen using all of our plant products. This is by no means the only way to dose your aquarium; it is merely a suggestion. Your dosing regimen will depend greatly on a variety of factors, including lighting, initial water quality, how heavily stocked your aquarium is, substrate selection, and types of plants; so don`t be surprised if getting the results you want takes a little experimentation.

Comments: i love it but if you have bristlenose plecostomus i wouldnt recomend it they will stir it up and it will uproot ur plants very easily. But other than that it is an excellent product and it came within like four days.

"Looks nice. Makes water cloudy" - Product Review by Samuel Bradstreet (Posted on 3/18/11)

Average

Comments: We originally put down red eco complete for our plants. My wife told me she wanted yoyo loaches which need a soft substrate. I thought this product would be a better option. I read that this stuff will make your water cloudy so I rinsed it twice for 30 minutes a pop.

When wet but out of the water has a very dense and compact feel to it. Once submerged it is like a very very fine silt. It tends to fall through cracks and move aroun retaining walls very easily so be careful while filling your tank. It was also so cloudy after filling the tank up 10% that we had little to no clue where we were planting things. I like to go to about 50% to plant anacharis so I can see how it will stand up but that was impossible due to the amount of murk this stuff creates.

The next morning the water was somewhat clearer but not crystal (how I like my tank) so I begrudgingly bought some seachem water clarifier. More than 24 hours later it is clearer but not 100%.

The product looks beautiful but is extremely difficult to work with compared to other planted substrates.

"Great Color" - Product Review by Bridge Mei (Posted on 3/5/09)

Great!

Comments: The black sand has a great color and appearance once in the tank. And the fish seem to love it. (I'll have to wait and see how the plants do with the substrate) Only -1 star for the amount of dust! (took a good 3 washes and a 24 hours to really clear all of it up)

Otherwise, extremely happy with it

Comments: A great product. Really is a beautiful color. Perfect for a planted (as in real) aquarium. Although the bag indicated no washing needed, i do disagree. No extensive washing is needed however. When washed the aquarium will clear in 48-72 hours.

"The Happy Plant Substrate" - Product Review by Travis Mercier (Posted on 6/21/08)

Excellent!

Comments: I've been using flourite in one for or another for over a year, started with the hideous brown stuff and was impressed with the plant growth, and now seachem has released this great product.
As everyone says its very dusty but I believe you're better off not washing it and having the patience to deal with the fine particulates as I think plants have an easier time absorbing nutrients from these.
The results in my newest tank (with the black sand) are incredible. I have vallisineria under 2wpg lighting that have within a week sent off a runner with 4 new plants, and grown roughly 6"+. Great product.

"Good..." - Product Review by Tara Hubble (Posted on 5/20/08)

Great!

Comments: I love the look and the texture of the sand it's very soft and the cory's can bury their heads in it. It is how ever very very messy. The first 2 days after adding it to the tank and very carefully filling it the water was still cloudy. My plants are looking wonderful tho, much greener visible growth. Just have to be very careful when uprooting, planting, or doing a water change not to disturb the sand. The shipping packaging was a little lacking the bag arrived with a hole due to the box being ripped and there not being any packing material other than brown paper around it...

Comments: I just set up my 125 gal tank with this stuff. Even after washing it my water was very cloudy, but after about a day the water cleared right up and it looks great. I havent put any plants in yet so i cant comment on that aspect but It looks really good.

"Great for Planted tanks" - Product Review by Ben Ros (Posted on 4/4/08)

Excellent!

Comments: Everything is growing well with this substrate. Be careful when adding it to your tank as it can get cloudy. Place the empty flourite bag on top of the substrate and add water on top of the bag to reduce cloudyness.
