Seachem Laboratories Multitest: Copper Test Kit Reviews

"Excellent Product" - Product Review by Dennis Kendrick (Posted on 7/12/12)

Excellent!

Comments: Best copper test hands down. Most kits went from .5 to lethal and nothing in between. You can now rest assured that you are not nearing the lethal zone for your finned friends. It has a reference that you can test with instead of the water to make sure the kit is accurate. It literally is collect sample water. Add two drops of agent. Dip in stir stick in powder to lightly coat it. Stir and wait 4 mins.

Great!

Comments: Little hard to distinguish the shades of blue. I compared this to the Salifert and recommend the Salifert kit as it's just one step instead of Seachems two step process. Both of them does show the same shade of blue though, so they are both accurate to use with Seachem's Cupramine.
I tried the API version and doesn't seem as accurate.

Excellent!

Comments: Unfortunately test determined copper present at low levels after a green horn mistake. Added Cuprisorb and polyfilter and all is well. Good product, well thought out, and simple to use. If your inverts are a dyin' you better be a tryin'.

Comments: I wish someone would make an easy to use, yet accurate kit. This kit is not easy to use, but gives accurate results. The plastic trays stain easily, but bleach will turn them white again. Just remember to de-chorinate. The trays are just big enough, so no shaky hands or sudden jerky movements as the compartments will intermingle. The powder is iffy. There is a q-tip size plastic stick you dip into this powder (which they don't give nearly enough) and then you swirl that into the compartment that is already almost too small.
Long story short, with a little practice, you will get a more accurate and consistent result. I have 5 tanks running right now, so it is nice to test all 5 at once. Just take your time when using this!

"Copper Testing..." - Product Review by And Aquarium Jj`S Reef (Posted on 2/10/08)

Unsatisfactory

Comments: I don't usually write reviews to products but in using this kit I felt that I would take a moment to write. The test kit, like most Copper test kits contains a two part mix with Aquarium water to read the copper levels. This is where it gets difficult. Seachem privides a little dish to put water in with a supplied pipette. When done as required, the little plastic bowl is full to the top and any additions usually go over the top. Even after doing everything as required, reading the color chart is very difficult. The difference between 0mg and 3mg is almost none. What that amount means in real world is either not treating your fish or killing them. We are a retail store that runs copper in our new arrival tanks for all incoming fish. I have and do use several brands of kits by Seachem, Instant Ocean and Salifert. I have found that the Instant Ocean kit is much eaiser to read than the others. I am not down on Seachem, I do sell and use their products every day but I do think Seachem let us down on this one.
