"Pretty good" - Product Review by Larry Boven (Posted on 9/30/12)

    Great!

Comments: This pump is pretty good for the price. I use it as a kalk doser set up on a timer. It doesn't give a whole lot of output, which is a good thing for dosing chemicals.

Comments: This pump seems to be doing well so far,the only downfall is it doses a lot per minute so i took a drywall anchor plugged up most of the hole ran a test for 1 min to measure the exact dose into a cup and then set my time.On a side note the first night i got these pumps running i dosed 3/4 of a gallon of alk into my tank.I set an on time and never set the off time so it ran until empty, however that was my own stupidity and not the pumps fault, also dont submerge the pump tube in water let it drip and leave a drip loop so it has to go uphill a little or it will create a siphon and mega dose.My tank is recovering i didnt lose much except a few astrea snails and my tank has about 40 sps so i was really freaking out.Overall good pump i got the tube for about 5 bucks
Was cheaper option, than buying more exspensive pump to do the same job.

Comments: 8 years service for this price. You tell me if its worth it. Just buy a 2nd one to keep on hand. You may not realize how important this pump is,until it does quit. Keeps overflow box primed(even after a power outage). Also, you can use with timer for auto top off. The most overlooked feature,is that the pump can pull air,as well as water. So if it does loose its prime,it will get it back. Again!!((even after power outage)).

Comments: Cheaply made Chinese junk that wears out in less than a year. I use it to prime an overflow box. They are so unreliable that I bought 2 last time because I knew I would need a backup. I will be purchasing a new overflow box that does not require one of these.

I am thankful I took his advice. This pump works perfectly with my RKE and I use 1/4" air tube to ATO my sump with a reserve of RO/DI water. I also have a second one on my Bio DenitraterI am pleased with both and I recommend them.

    Great!

Comments: I use one on each of my tanks as the topoff pump. The one on my large reef doses kalkwasser as topoff. It must be opened up and cleaned a couple times a year to remove the buildup inside. It pumps parallel with my sump (not up to the main tank). The other one is on a 8 gallon tank topping off RO/DI water from a 5 gallon jug. It has problems pumping up the 3 feet to the tank. It also gets air bubbles in the pump and the pump needs to be shaked and tapped on while running to get the bubbles to pump through. I've gone through 2 of these on the smaller tank. They don't seem to like pumping up against gravity. Otherwise they work better than anything else I've come across for topoff.

    Great!

Comments: I bought this pump (actually three of them) to pump top off water into my salt tank. I have it set about even with the water level to prevent problems and avoid making the pump work hard to reach some greater head height. It is inexpensive, but so far is doing very well. I don't know how long it will last so I have the replacements available. Obviously, at the price paid, there is no progamability. I have it plugged into a programmable timer like I use for my lights. It runs a few minutes a day to replace the evaporated water. Simple but effective.

Comments: The pump works fine once its pumping. But if the power shuts off and comes back on, it has a problem. When the power comes back on, the pump starts, however it wont pump water with air in the line. I must suck the air out of the out flow hose manually to prime it. This is a huge problem when trying to keep the siphon flowing on a over flow box.

Comments: Used one for about 3 years and just bought another one. Using it for ATO with an UltraLife Float Switch in conjuction with a timer and my water level is always steady.

The compacity of 3 GPH is enough for me to replenish my 60 gallon (80 gallon total) and also a 125 gallon (150 gallon total) systems without needing bigger pumps.

I would suggest using this with a timer as a fail safe in case something fails and it dumps fresh water with KALK into the tank, killing off all your fishes (don't ask me how I know :-(

Comments: Very poorly made. I bought this product to feed my Korallin Ca++ reactor. It lasted less than 10 minutes, when I noticed the nipple, I attached the tubing to, had started to break off. Your better off plumbing a JG fitting into your main line and run your water supply off that. Another option for those of you looking to drain your overflow, is to get a maxi-jet powerhead and connect tubing to the venturi connector which will draw water from your overflow into your sump or where ever you place the powerhead. Don't support the sale of this product, you will be disappointed and frustrated.

    Great!

Comments: This purchase was for a replacement aqualifter pump that had failed after 9 months of use. The failure caused minor floor damage, due to the pump not being able to hold a syphon on my overflow. knowing that I will keep a backup pump on hand with the exception of short life span. With that in mind the pump works perfectly and my aquairuim is looking great. servicwe/shipping was quick and painless. I plan on doing more business with the site in the future.

Comments: Great for gravity fed siphon over flows. Plan on replacing unit at least once per year. This is not a huge deal given the inexpensive price. I tried to rebuild one of the pumps one time, but was unsuccessful. Rebuild kits can be purchased on Amazon. I was unable to rebuild the pump without having it leak inside the housing of the pump and down the power chord and into the floor below the tank.

"Two is better than One" - Product Review by Paul Stevenson (Posted on 5/9/10)
    Rating
    Excellent!

Comments: I'm using this pump for a top off, pulling freshwater from an 8-gallon lidded trashcan underneath my 70-gallon aquarium. The top of the aquarium is about 60" above the floor, but I figured the actual lift height would only be about 40" when accounting for the water height when the trashcan was full if I raised it off the floor a bit. I took a gamble based upon another poster's review that it could push 30" and pull 15" for a total of 45". No such luck here. My unit was definitely struggling right around the 30" mark, right on specification.

I priced other pumps, and since nothing else seemed cost effective, I bought a second one of these. Using a Y power adapter, I plugged both pumps into my level controller, and ran the airline tubing in series from one pump to the next. I was thrilled to find out that I now had enough pumping power to lift 60" without issue!

Using two of these pumps plus a Y power cord is still a bargain compared to other dosing and top off pumps on the market. Of course, my likelyhood of experiencing a pump failure has doubled, but at least it's just a top off pump and nothing critical.

    Excellent!

Comments: I have two of these that I use for fresh water top off to my sump on my 140. I have two of them on a T, so that if one fails the other still draws water from the reservoir. Cheap backup insurance. As far as power, even when I just used one, it pumped water up from the bottom of a 36" high overflow and another 24" to the sump. I would recommend getting the inexpensive pre-filter and keep it clean. I think you will find that you get more life out of the pump. I love mine and you can't beat the price.

Comments: I suppose this pump would work in the smallest of applications but when they say 30" of head on this pump, they are not exaggerating. Total run distance 31" from end of pickup to outlet and this pump would run for about 30 seconds at barely a drip and then quit. Finally, had to resort to an AQUA MEDIC SP 3000 DOSING PUMP and it is working flawlessly for my ATO requirement.

Comments: when this product works(I use it for the overflow) it works perfect, but when it starts to falter, replace immediately. Always have a 2nd one on hand for back up. I am also dosing magnesium through the pump as part of my ATO water.

Comments: Mine just burnt out. Granted, I did get almost exactly one year worth of use out of it which is why it gets the 3rd star. I've been using it on my CPR overflow and initially it was working great. About 4 months ago I started noticing it was having trouble keeping my overflow primed. Today I had water all over the floor. I replaced it with a Rio 600 using its venturi to create a vacuum and the difference is significant. The Rio 600 is giving me far more suction from over 30" away than the Aqua-Lifter was ever able to. I would recommend getting something more reliable/stronger for use with a CPR overflow application until Tom Aquatics can offer a stronger pump.

Comments: This is a great product for the price....especially since similar pumps can cost about $100. Runs very quiet even if pumps runs dry or if air-line tubing valve is almost closed. I use it as an inline pump for a small chiller. I also use it to slowly drain and refill tank during water changes. Works best on smaller aquariums under 10 gallons since the flow is low.

Comments: bought two of them 1 for my overflow and 1 to top of kalkwaser every hour, these things loose there power in just under a month. Maybe do to clogging with food from overflow or calcium build up? none noticeable and 1 month is to short for clogging, seems to me the internal power device just losses power after 1 month. I ran on overflow continuously and it failed, i ran it as a doser and they bothed failed on me, instead dont donate your money, it is a waste, cuz not many other products like it and for just under 15 dollars it was good while it worked but think of yearly costs to replace every month = 10 monthly plus shipping for long term cuz they wont last over a month. instead will try and find smallest rio or power head to dose kalk.

"Great Little Pump" - Product Review by Eric Pointel (Posted on 7/11/09)

    Great!

Comments: I use it for my overflow box on me saltwater aquarium and it works fine. The pump fits standard air tubing, which is rather convenient. It isn't too noisy and doesn't tend to vibrate off surfaces like some air pumps do. However the dosing pump does clog easily and getting it unclogged can be difficult, especially if the clog happens in the inner workings of the pump. For this reason I recommend buying the Aqua Lifter Suction Pre-Filter, when buying this pump.

Comments: If you have had enough siphoning by sucking on tubes then this is the product for you. I use it to start siphoning on a variety of items like tank bottom cleaners, Kalk drip bottles, siphon tube for web/dry filter, etc. Its a very useful pump at a very low price.

Comments: bought this little pupm to replace the powerhead I was using for my ATO. This is a wonderfull little pump, and is completly quiet. I had 3 floods using old powerhead and heavy tubing that fell out of my sump. The airline tubing used is easier to use and fasten into the sump then larger hose I was using with powerhead. Be sure to get the suction filter to go with the pump. Price is also unbeatable.

Comments: Pretty cool little pump for $15. That's the cheapest part of your whole tank! It's virtually silent when pumping water (if it sucks a big pocket of air it makes an annoying noise not unlike a noisy air pump). I'm sure you can think of all kinds of uses for a little pump like this. Definitely get the suction prefilter they make to go with it, it's small and easy to clean.

Comments: This little thing has been running on one of my tanks non-stop for two and a half years now. I have it self-syphoning a CPR overflow box and it has yet to fail me. Every time I cut the power back on to the tank after working in it, it always restarts the syphon without worry. I would highly recommend this pump to anyone, especially for use on an overflow.

"Great auto-topoff" - Product Review by Justin Friske (Posted on 9/30/08)

    Excellent!

Comments: I passed on buying one of these for my ATO when setting up my reef tank because I was worried about the 30" lifting limit, because my freshwater resevoir was more than 30" below the top of my tank. I ended up using a large rio pump rated up to a 6ft head. The problem with this was that the pump would dump so much freshwater in at once, by the time the float sensor had reacted to the increasing water lever and shut the pump off, the water had risen to better than 1" above the float sensor.

This caused moderate swings in salinity, from the hyposaline environment of just after the ATO refilling, to the hypersaline environment of just before the value would turn on the pump. This was not ideal for the tanks' inhabitants, and made dialing in the salinity a pain.

Then I read on one of the reef forums that aqualifters may only PULL water up ~30" through the intake side, but they are much better at pushing the water up and away on the output side. And even if they were not better at pushing water, you can still pull water from 30" below the aqualifter and push it 30" above, making the pump effective at moving water up to 60" vertically.

So, because these pumps were only $20 I gave it a try and it worked beautifully. The aqualifter rests on a shelf in my tank's cabinet and pulls water from the bottom of the resevoir up to the pump (about 2ft) and then pushes it the rest of the way up and over the rim of the tank (another 2-3 ft).

Now the ATO tops off much more slowly and my salinity is quite stable. I am very pleased with this product and would recommend it to anyone for this application.

Comments: The Aqua Lifter does exactly what it says it can do, and does it for a great price. It is also virtually silent once filled with water. I use mine with a DIY auto top off system and I'm happy with the results; a bit more controlled for topping off a smaller tank, versus using a powerhead. I'd give 5 stars if it could pump a bit higher, but at least Tom's does let you know upfront that it can only pump about 30". Perfect enough for topping off/dosing to a sump on the floor, but a little short if you want to pump to a tank on a stand.
