Tropic Marin Calcium / Magnesium Test Kit Information

Ensure that your aquatic environment contains the right levels of calcium and magnesium all the time with the use of Tropic Marin Calcium/Magnesium Test Kit from Pet Store. This test kit is useful in gauging the amount of these two important elements in your marine aquarium water.

Corals, coralline algae, and other reef inhabitants absorb essential elements from seawater, such as magnesium and calcium. In a closed tank system, these two elements should always be provided in appropriate doses in order to provide the concentrations that these reef inhabitants need. However, too much of these elements should also be avoided so as not to harm other aquatic livestock in the tank.

It is thus essential that you do a periodic test to determine the ratio and level of concentration of magnesium and calcium in your tank. Such information can guide your decision in either adding or withdrawing certain amounts of these elements in your tank so that the natural marine water quality is maintained.

The Tropic Marin Calcium/Magnesium Test Kit enables you to measure the precise levels of magnesium and calcium concentration in your aquarium water. The set contains reagents that can be used to make around 30 tests. It contains a guide on how to do these tests on your own. With this product around, you can keep track of the quality of your seawater and keep your aquatic livestock safe and healthy.

For measuring magnesium and calcium concentrations in seawater.

Magnesium and calcium concentrations and the ratio between these two elements are constantly changing in marine aquariums due to assimilation into the skeletons of corals and coralline algae and the process of precipitation. A periodic check of magnesium and calcium concentrations is necessary to determine the amounts of these elements that needs to be added to the aquarium in order to restore them to natural seawater levels.

The Magnesium-Calcium-Combitest consistently determines the exact concentration of each of these elements separately. Each Magnesium-Calcium-Combitest kit contains reagents for approx. 30 tests.

Excellent!

Comments: This is one of the simplest and most accurate test kits on the market for Ca and Mg. The titration procedure is very simple and straightforward, with definitive end points. I highly recommend!!

Comments: Hard to tell when solution is no longer blue compared to the control as the colors never really match. One of the syringes does not have a black O-ring at all so not sure how to read the value for that test and the other has a black one that is the same color as the lines so it's very hard to read the value.

Comments: I bought this and found it a bit more difficult to use compared to other test kits. The color change is subtle as well.

"Love it!!!" - Product Review by Ronald Terry (Posted on 4/15/09)

Great!

Comments: Very simple directions. The color change is subtle but enough to know when it has changed. Use a white background and the change is easy to register. I don't understand the previous complaints. This test kit is great!

"HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!" - Product Review by Nick Brouwer (Posted on 11/20/08)

Unsatisfactory

Comments: this test kit is the worst i have ever used. it is so hard to tell if the VERY light blue solution turns colorless that you can only wonder if you are getting an accurate test result. AND, you cannot test the magnesium unless you test the calcium first(you have to use the same solution from the calcium test), and the color change on the magnesium is the same as the calcium. using this is a PAIN!!!!! if they can make the color change A LOT more distinct, this would be an ok test kit, (except for the fact that you have to test the calcium before you can test the magnesium.)

Excellent!

Comments: Great test kit. Performed three consecutive tests and all results were within 3ppm for calcium and 5ppm magnesium. Very accurate and reliable.

Comments: The instructions are pretty clear but the color change is very subtle and I have yet to see the MG part of the test work they way the instructions indicate. I've tried it three times over two months (3 on my tank, 1 on newly mixed water).

"Really hard to use" - Product Review by Kimberly Joyce (Posted on 12/23/07)

Unsatisfactory

Comments: The kit has three liquid solutions and one powder. Also, four separate syringes. It's very hard to use - color goes from baby blue to clear and is very hard to distinguish. I still can't get the magnesium test to work at all. Wish I hadn't bought this . . . .

"New Mg testing kit" - Product Review by Mahmoud Nasser (Posted on 12/12/07)

Great!

Comments: I like the kit, it seems to be better quality, they use glass tubes instead of plastic which makes it easier to interpret color changes. I used the Salifert Magnesium and calcium testing kits before and I have to admit that it is easier to note the change in color from pink to colorless in Salifert than from blue to colorless in the tropic Martin kit. I also did the tests with both kits and I found that the Tropic Marin kit gave consistently and significantly higher calcium and magnesium readings than the Salifert counterpart, so I am really struggling which one to believe now. I would appreciate any further input on this issue
