Comments: I have had Instant Ocean, cheap buy for $51.00/ 175 Gallons, I learned a lesson with swiching SG, algea broom and worst, lost some of my SPS. So I called Marine Depot for recommendations, I got advised from expert....switching to Tropic Marine Pro. I switched 30% water change from Istant Ocean to Tropic Marin...and resulted paid off. My SPS seems happier, so my advised to folks out there :" I don't try to save 40 bucks of salt when it costs you more than 200 buck of coral..."

Comments: I have used this salt in the past, but I started buying salt from my local pet store, just because it was cheaper. OOPS!!! I will never do that again. Wow the difference is obvious in my corals when I use Pro reef! I was using coral life and it is not even close! I think my fish are even more active. I stopped in to see an old frined and looked at their tank and it looked so good! I asked what they were adding to the tank to make it look so good and they said Nothing! Just using Tropic Marine Pro reef and changing 5% of the water every monday moring. I knew what my tank had been missing! If you are not sure just give it a try, you will not be let down!!! My kids are even noticing the differences.

Comments: I had several problems with BrightWell Aquatics and Instant Ocean. They both seemed to have excess pH swings and algae blooms. Running the lights for 4 hours a day, adding a phosphate reactor, changing the water 20% weekly... nothing could eliminate the algae. Finally I noticed a difference after the second 20% water change with Tropic Marine Pro Reef. Now I am actually keeping SPS successfully.

Comments: Tropic Marin Pro Reef Sea Salt seems to be the best available salt. Yeah, a bit pricey, but if you have a coral heavy reef tank, it is so worth it. Much better price ratio for the 200gl buckets than boxes. Keeps the levels where they need to be of all the elements and limits need for other supplemented elements. I use it for weekly 50gl water changes on a 225gl tank / 440 gl system. It disolves fast and leaves very little residue at the bottom of the mixing barrel compared to other brands I've tried. And I've tried lots over the years, which have left a lot of residue and dont mix as well or as fast.

Comments: Been useing Tropic Marin Pro Reef since it came out. Have tried other brands, always come back to Pro Reef. Never had a bad batch, but have with other brands. Always get consistant results no matter how much I mix up, read the info on some other brands. One brand I recently used because Tropic Marin was out of stock had an insert warning to mix entire bucket at one time or thoroughly mix entire bucket of salt before useing smaller amounts.

"Good Salt Mix."
- Product Review by Joseph Fernandez
(Posted on 8/30/10)

Comments: Seems to be a good salt mix. Really brings my calcium levels up when I do a water change however, Magnesium levels are at the lower end of the acceptable range when I test. My Magnesium readings are 1300. I have no phosphate issues. I've been using this for 5 months now since I started the 120 gallon tank. Corals are vibrant and wide open. Fish have all been fine. Coraline Algae is growing well. Two different LFS's said this was the best mix to buy. At first I thought that was just a sales pitch but then when I tried to purchase it from them they said they ran out.

Comments: I've been reef keeping for 6 yrs now and this is the first time I used this salt, and I would say that I don't know what I was thinking for not trying this product sooner...It is the best salt IMO, no powdery residue and no chlorine like smell...it disolved very quickly as soon as it get's into the water. My corals are never been happier and open up really good, even the colors are back...especially my Montipora and zoos. Yes it's a little bit pricey but it's WELL worth it.

Comments: I was looking for a salt to replace the Reefer's best i was using and thought i would try this brand. I've researched a little about this salt on RC and found it's parameters to be in line for what i wanted. It mixed up well and didn't leave that residue in my mixing container like other salt brands. Seems to be pretty good stuff.

Comments: After trying out a couple of other brands, including Seachem's Reef Salt and Red Sea's Reef Salt, I switched to the Tropic Marin Pro Reef Salt. I was impressed by how well the salt dissolved (no left overs) and how easily the corals made the transition to the new brand. My water chemistry seems to have improved as well, although longer term testing will be the only way to confirm this (as of the date of this writing I've only done a couple of water changes).

"Low Magnesium"
- Product Review by Hoang Nguyen
(Posted on 4/25/08)
-
Comments: When I first tried TMP, I bought a 200 gal box and after mixing at 35ppt the magnesium was lower than NSW. I thought that was due to the fact that I did not mix up the entire bucket. Thus, I bought a smaller 32 gal box and mixed the entire box at one time, magnesium was still lower than NSW (around 1150 or so).

I believe TMP is a high quality salt, but manufacturer has got bump up the magnesium for the amount of $$$ that I'm paying for it.

I tested magnesium using Elos test kit. I had a friend who tested with Salifert and came up with the same numbers.

(Posted on 4/19/08)

Comments: Owners at my frequented LFSs grudgingly told me they use this in their professional displays but sold the cheap crap because thats what hobbists and maintenance crews used - cheap sells. I bought a small box, used RODI H2O & it is amazing. I now add NOTHING to the salt, it dissolves in 10 minutes leaving no residue, and the colors of the SPS/LPS really showed after 2-3 water changes. I do weekly 10% changes and will use nothing else. I now only test for Ca+ & Alk. My expensive corals live & thrive in this stuff. Worth the cost!

Comments: Without a doubt this salt is the hands down winner when it comes to synthetic sea salt. I originally bought this at a local Store in Orlando, Fl when I was picking up a coral. I had never seen it before or even heard of it and the price was three times higher than any other salt I had bought.
I went ahead though and purchased some and I have not been disappointed since. The results have been nothing less than great. I use to make up water a week in advance in a large Rubbermaid can and after a week the diatoms covered ever in of the can and ruined the water. I don

Comments: Well I have used Red Sea Coral Pro Salt and this salt. Red Sea salt was great dKh 10 Cal-420 1.021. The only reason I switched was because of the residue left over in my mixer after I mixed. Tropic-Marin has no residue after I mix and is very clean but only has a dKh of 7. I questioned them about this on there website and the answer I got was natural seawater is 7 and that is what there salt stays at. I personally like to be higher so I use a dKH additive with this salt.

Comments: This salt dissolves very fast. I used to use Instant Ocean, but that would always leave some white particles/residue behind.
After every water change, I see a remarkable response from all of my hard corals. Dosing calcium/alkalinity alone doesn't seem to keep the growth up.
I worry that continued use of this will leave my bottles of supplements useless.

- Product Review by Raman Mooshabad
(Posted on 2/22/08)

Comments: I have owned saltwater tanks for over 15years now. The Marine Tropic Pro-Reef Salt is by far the best salt I have ever used.
The only algae that it promotes are purple coralline algae.
With other products I would grow purple coralline on the rocks and a green type of coralline on the glass.
After switching to Marine Tropic Pro Reef, I have noticed the green type of coralline go away and now I only grow the purple coralline on the glass and rocks.
Also, all of my coral is growing like crazy!!
This salt is a little high in cost but well worth it.

Comments: This salt dissolves fairly fast. The trace elements are definitely in there. Only problem I had was with calcium levels and alkalinity once I mixed a batch. Ive done 2 since I bought this product, both times calcium was 500+ and alkalinity was a consistent 2.8 meq/L each time. Sorry, but next time I will be choosing a different brand.

- Product Review by Stephen Bohannon
(Posted on 12/31/07)

Comments: For a long time I relied on additives to keep my Calcium and Magnesium levels up. Then I discovered Tropic Marin Pro and I now use very little supplements to my water. I have two reef tanks, one 500 gallon, one 210 gallon. I do a 10 percent water change weekly on my tanks. I'm able to maintain my mag and cal at optimum levels this way and it costs much less than constantly adding additives or using reactors - and safer. Obviously I make my own water and this is absolutely the cleanest salt. Every other salt I've used has left deposits in my mixing tanks. Tropic Marin is always clean. WELL worth the extra $$.

Comments: I used to use corralife which is fine but think this is much better it might be a dollar or 2 more but my fish colors are better and overall just seems to be great salt.
It might take a minute to disolve more than corralife but big deal its great salt. I find less algae with this salt than corralife . I also like seachem as much both tied for first place .
Both take a minute more than corralife to disolve but both I notice things just better in tank. I have nothing against Corralife used it for yrs but dont find it as good as tropic marin or seachem.

Comments: I was originally using coral pro sea salt. And decided to switch to tropic marin because i heard good things about it and my red sea salt had a low calcium reading when i mix it. So i got the TM and it dissolved much quicker! But the calcium reading was still low. So I think I have a bad test kit.
