Two Little Fishies NPX Bioplastics Nitrate & Phosphate Reducing Polymer Media - 200ml Information

Part #: NPX0

NPX BioPlastics are pelletized biodegradable polymers that provide a time-released source of food for bacteria that assimilate nitrate and phosphate. As bacteria develop on the pellet surfaces, excess growth sloughs off due to the tumbling in a fluidized filter, and these bacteria can be removed with a protein skimmer or serve as planktonic food for filter-feeding invertebrates such as corals, clams, and sponges. Anaerobic zones also develop within the pellets, thus promoting denitrification there. Why bother with dosing Vodka daily when you can just use NPX BioPlastics and let the bacteria work for you?

Specifications

Directions: NPX Bioplastics are best installed in a fluidized filter like the PhosBan reactor 150 or 550, but they may simply be placed in a media bag in a filtration compartment.  Use 100 ml Bioplastics per 100 L (approx 25 gallons).  After 2-4 weeks, nitrate and phosphate levels will decrease.  because NPX Bioplastics are slowly consumed, more pellets have to be added periodically.  Observe the level of media within the filter and top off as necessary about every 3-6 months.  For aquaria with heavy feeding, higher quantities can be used, but the accumulation of phosphate from the food may require the combined use of NPX Bioplastics and PhosBan granular ferric oxide media, in separate reactors.

Caution: Maintain sufficient water flow through NPX Bioplastics to prevent production of hydrogen sulfide gas.  Employ strong water circulation, aeration, and/or a surface skimming overflow in the aquarium to maintain high levels of oxygen saturation when using this product because of the strong influence it has on oxygen saturation.  The use of NPX Bioplastics in marine aquariums must be accompanied by the use of a protein skimmer to achieve the export of bacteria and assimilated nutrients.  It is not necessary for the outlet of the filter containing pellets to be positioned near the intake of a protein skimmer, but it is necessary to have a protein skimmer running on the system.

Excellent!

Comments: Had had huge phosphate issue with nitrates around 10. Its not a quick fix but after 4 months, my phosphates are .05 with a hannah photometer, and nitrates are undetectable. Just keep strong flow, or they will clump and gel.

Comments: I have to say it's amazing that anyone gave this product anything less than 5 stars.
You dump it in a phosban reactor and it eliminates nitrates/phosphates with no side effects man you just can't beat that.
I've been running this for a year or two now and honestly it's making me lazy nothing has been easier to control nitrates. Just refill the reactor and your done. I don't have any problems with algae and it feeds your corals to boot.
Wish I could post a pic of the tank that's been up since 2004.

NO3 reduced by 1/2 in a month Product Review by McCrash (Posted on 10/4/12)

Excellent!

Comments: I purchased this product with a bit of skepticism, but have found that this product does exactly as it claims. In a months time this product has reduced my nitrate by 1/2 and it continues to reduce its level. I had a period where tank maintenance was impossible due to circumstances beyond my control, during this time I was using RO/DI water from an RO unit with old filters and membrane as well as having a few deaths. The skimmer was not working well due to poor maintenance and this all related to very high levels of Nitrate (160+ ppm).

Due to those same circumstances money has been tighter than normal so I bought this product to help reduce the horrible nitrates, simply could not afford that high number of water changes + replacement filters/membrane to get them under control. To my amazement I currently looking at 40 ppm NO3 and while still way to high this has been accomplished with one monthly water change.

I have read that things can quickly get out of control going in the opposite direction and knowing this I am watching things very closely. Should the levels continue to reduce this quickly I will remove half of the amount I have used and try to bring levels down a bit slower.

OUTSTANDING product, I will buy more in the future.
