UltraLife Red Slime Remover

UltraLife Red Slime Remover is a revolutionary time tested product, that will effectively and safely remove Red Slime quickly from all Coral and Invertebrates. UltraLife RSR contains natural cellular matter, select biological accelerators and special supplements proven effective in removing Red Slime from Corals and Inverebrates and is Safe for reef tanks, corals, invertebrates, desirable macro-algae, nitrifying bacteria and fish.

UltraLife RSR will accelerate the solubilization and biological digestion of organic solids. In the process, the oxygen uptake rate in your aquarium will increase as a result of this increased biological activity. It is very important that your aquarium is able to support this increased oxygen demand along with your aquatic life`s need for oxygen. Therefore we recommend increasing your O2 levels by the addition of airstones prior to and during treatment.

For best results, DO NOT turn off UV Sterilizer or Ozonizer. Continuation of Protein Skimming is recommended but may require adjustment.
Due to Increased biological digestion of organic solids we recommend increasing your O2 levels by the addition of airstones prior to and during treatment.
No need for Water changes or Removal of Carbon Filtration.

Safe for reef tanks, corals, invertebrates, desirable macro-algae, nitrifying bacteria and fish.

Comments: I'm running a 24 Gallon Nano with both soft and stony corals, as well as a large-mantled clam, fish, and crustaceans. One treatment quickly eradicated the red slime problem that had arisen from poor flow in some regions (I also added a powerhead, but that only dislodged the slime in one area). Even the water column looks super clear! No creatures were harmed besides the slime.

Comments: Use this with the understanding you can deplete the oxygen levels easily. Use airstone, and do NOT overdose. I speak from experience, I just lost everything in my 14 gal. Bio cube because I didn't think I needed to oxygenate the tank. I'm not sayIng avoid this product., it does a good job of removing red slime. I would consider water changes and work on keeping the temp below 80. Temp fluctuations are the primary cause of red slime. In my area (Florida) it seems it gets worse around Nov. and Dec.

Great!

Comments: i have a 72 bow with 20 gallon sump. i used 5 scoops, each scoop treats 15 gallons. i figured my rocks and sand took up some water voume and my sump is 9 inches high out of 16 inches depth so i only have approx 11 gallons in sump. i left my lights on and i took collection cup of skimmer and opened gate valve all the way open. expect a ton of foam/bubbles in sump. the medication took the full two days to work. after you do a water change 48 hours later throw a filter sock on and your collection cup back on. it will skim super wet for two cups but then it will settle down some. dont use filter sock for more than a day. you will have to clean your skimmer neck and cup because it leaves a slimey haze on it. your corals wont like it at all, especially the lps and sps. it took four ten gallon water changes and 4-5 days for everything to start looking good again. it will turn your sps white but dont worry, the polyps will slowly start to come back. it didnt seem to bother a large favia brain at all or any of my polyps and palythoas. green tyree toadstool finally starting to come out again about a week later. tank started a small cycle of diatom on the sand in places. all the fish seem fine and i didnt lose anything. i admit i wasnt keeping up on water changes. i dont want to go through this agian so i will keep up on water changes. also change your ro/di filters or get a tds meter so you know

"Worked great" - Product Review by Allan Bazinet (Posted on 6/23/11)

Excellent!

Comments: For months, I had been fighting a losing battle against cyano in my BC29, using traditional techniques. In desperation, I tried this product, and it completely wiped out the cyano in about 48 hours, without harm to anything else in the tank. Per the instructions, I added an airstone, but left adsorbent media (carbon, GFO, Purigen) in place. On day one, the water was yellow from adding the product. By day two, the cyano was dramatically diminished, and the water was a pinkish hue, with the skimmer pulling a large amount of gunk. By day three, the water was clear and the cyano had vanished. The amount of product in the small bottle provided would appear to be practically a lifetime supply; a little goes a long way.

"Scared!! But worked Great!!" - Product Review by Scott Schutza (Posted on 5/31/11)

Excellent!

Comments: I had a huge red slime issue.. Tried everything in the book before resorting to chemicals. And yes I read every review before trying this product. Having a mixed tank of sps, lps, and softies, I was really worried about using any product after reading negetive reviews. I introduced this product to my tank on Sunday night. I saw results within 2 hrs. Next day my tank was almost completely rid of red slime. I waited 2 days before doing water change. I followed directions to a T. Also, I have a 125 gal and went ahead and put in a couple of airstones although Ive read it dosnt work on tank this big. Remove skimmer cup as Ive read. All my corals are still alive and kikin! Noticed a little stress on fish, but left off lights and they seemed fine next day. I would leave lights off when using. All and all, my tank looks great! No more red slime and all is well. Would for sure recommend. Hope this helps!

Comments: I've used this product twice. The first time it worked as claimed - no harm to corals/fish. I used it again 6 months later and holy cow - major issues! Tissue peeled off my LPS corals and two giant montiporas completely bleached. In short, I would never use this product again or recommend it to anyone. I've been in the hobby for over 20 years and I am shocked at the damage this product inflicted on my corals. This is not a reef safe product.

"What You NEED to KNOW" - Product Review by Brandon Davids (Posted on 3/24/11)
Rating
Excellent!

Comments: This product works great. Here is what you need to know NOT to kill everything in your tank and for best results.

1. Don't resort to using this product until you have tried to control your phosphates and nitrates with other methods. This will rid your tank of Red Slime, but a very small percentage of the bacteria will survive because it's resistant to the antibiotic. The next time your tank gets slime, more of the bacteria will be resistant. You will just breed a stronger tougher red slime (really the bacteria that produces the slime).

2. Airstones are inadequate on larger tanks (over 30 gallons probably). Take the collection cup OFF of your skimmer and adjust the level so that your skimmer is overflowing constantly. This way, your skimmer is effectively aerating your water. This is like having 20-30 airstones or more.

3. Use the minimum recommended dosage and decrease your lighting cycle drastically so that the slime won't grow during treatment.

4. It usually takes 2-3 days to get rid of the slime. I like to start doing 10-20% water changes on the 3rd day or when I see the slime is gone and then I do water changes every 48 hours for about 5-6 cycles. I usually keep my skimmer on the driest setting until I do a few water changes and it starts working properly again.

5. Other methods that should be used include:
a. Massive Water Changes - Try using a gravel/sand vacuum and removing detritus from your sand bed. If nothing else, stir everything up and turkey baste or direct a pump at all your rocks just before you do the water change.
b. GFO or other phosphate removing methods.
c. As a last resort, take your rocks out and blast them with a pump or scrub them and try to get all the built up detritus out of them. I like to but it in a 5 gallon bucket and swoosh it and turn it as fast as possible. You'll have tons of junk left at the bottom of your bucket. You can "cook" your rock too, research it online.

"Red Algae Slime" - Product Review by Rory Burdine (Posted on 3/10/11)

Excellent!

Comments: I have a 220 gallon tank with about a 30 gallon sump. I use ball grass and miracle mud. I normally change 40 gallons of water once a week but I ran out of salt and had to order from my LFS, so for 5 weeks I was unable to do a water change and the red slime started to take over both the tank and sump. I ordered the Red Slime Remover and it arrived just as my salt arrived at the LFS. Instead of doing a water change, I dosed the tank with Red Slime Remover by mixing in a cup of tank water. I let it do it's thing for four days and it completely removed all the Red Slime. Then over a period of 6 days, i replaced 80 gallons of water. Now I'm back to changing 40 gallons a week and the tank is pristine. No harm to any of the corals or fish. I used one entire bottle for my treatment of the 220 gallon tank considering the live rock, clams, corals (SPS/LPS) and sump. I have used the red slime remover before but the first time on my big show tank. Red Slime Remover works every time for me but if I would have kept up with my water changes, I would not have had a problem to deal with. Note, the water in the tank will turn yellow but clears up in about 4 days, about the time when you should do a water change.

Comments: Started seeing the Cyano, Red Slime a couple weeks ago. Increased the number of snails, bought some blue leg hermits, cut back on light, reduced feedings, water changes etc. I could siphon it off and the next day it was back. Decided to try the UltraLife red slime remover.
Turns the tank yellow... Adjusted the skimmer way down, put 2 air stones in the tank (Per their instructions).
Added the stuff last night, around 5 pm.
this morning, water is clear, and large patches have completely disappeared!
there are a few small spots, but I siphoned those off. stirred up the sand in the few places it was on the bed.
Corals never even flinched, slimed or closed. Fish are seemingly unaffected as well.
Tomorrow evening (48 hours later) I am going to do a second dose as they recommend, then next weekend, do a major water change.
Looks like this stuff works like it should!

Comments: I had red slime algae on the bottom of the tank and on my live rock. Also had a film on the top of the water. I followed the instructions and my tank has never been cleaner. No harm was done to any of my fish or invertebrates. I've read some bad reviews about this product saying all their tank inhabitants died but I suspect that they either did not follow instructions or had some other underlying problem with their tank.

Comments: This product works well, but in order to use it your tank must be overcrowded with red slim bacteria, because it seems like if you do not have huge outbreak it will demolish all your habitats by depleting oxygen and fluctuating PH. bacteria in the product needs to eat sours food for slime bacteria or stay and pollute.
I did 4 stars because it works good but dosing accordantly to the amount of bacteria in the tank plus amount of gallons.

Great!

Comments: I have fought with red slime algae for years. Usually taking out each piece of live rock and lightly scrubbing it in a 5 gallon bucket of siphoned off water. My brother suggested I give this a try. It worked great! After a thorough cleaning I added this when I first started seeing signs of the slime appearing. I started with a low content (equivalent of 30 gallons to a 55 gallon tank) and the slime disappeared within 48 hours. I did add a airstone to the sump and I did not see an appreciable increase in my protein skimmer output but they may be due to the light dosage.

Comments: I followed the directions exactly, using airstones as recommended. Within 48 hours everything in my aquarium was dead, including fish, SPS, LPS, clams, starfish, and shrimp. Comments: I wasn't hesitant to use this product to address my red slime problem because some of the reviews reported a negative impact on their livestock and corals. But, I was desparate and siphoning it out was not working. I tried it in my tank and am happy to report the red slime is completely gone and all my fish and corals are healthy. Although continuation of protein skimming is recommended, I turned mine off for 48 hours and then did a water change. I would highly recommend this product.

Great!

Comments: I had been trying everything under the sun in terms of correcting water quality and conditions. I think that the algae had just gotten too far along for any measures I took to be effective. I didn't see any improvment after 24 hours, however by the 2-1/2 day mark, it was nearly non-existant and the 3rd full day brought a red-slime free tank. This product is certainly good for eliminating what red slime algae you have, but you still need to find the root cause and fix that. I have stony and soft corals that saw NO negative effects. The product truly seemed to target only the red slime with no other side effects other than turning the water yellow for the first day. I would use again, but hopefully I will not need to.

Comments: The worst thing I have done to date to my 65 gallon reef tank was add this product to it for a small outbreak of red slime. I did two treatments since the first didn't do anything. Some but not all of the red slime was removed but I had to do a 50% water change just to be able to use my protein skimmer again!!!! Trillions of bubbles (caused fish stress) and overskimming (yes it was turned down AND I didn't used it during the treatment). This is the worst product I've used and DO YOURSELF A HUGE FAVOR..leave it on the shelf!...and just do the water change :-)

Comments: Well, it removed the slime. Unfortunately, it killed EVERYTHING in the tank in just 2 days. A few SPS corals, a Fox Face, a Sea Urchin, a rock covered in star polyps, some LPS, and many huge mushrooms. My only trouble was red slime. Everything had been in the tank for at least 3 or 4 years and doing fine. After the smell got horrible in 24 hours, I started changing water as fast as my RO would generate it. But it was no use. Everything is now rotting on the tank bottom.

Comments: I've been fighting blue-green algae (red slime) for several months. I've tried improving lighting, decreasing feeding, increasing skimming and water changes, but I always had to remove a large amount of the stuff by hand with every water change only to see it return the next day. I tried UltraLife Red Slime remover with a bit of hesitancy and a lot of desperation. I used it and reapplied 48 hours later. The blue-green algae is gone! My starfish, shrimp, snails, crabs, fish, and tube worms are all fine. No ill side effects that I noticed except my skimmers were working overtime and the pH dropped slightly. I highly recommend this product to anyone who has a problem with red slime.

Comments: I have a 50g mixed reef. After battling Cyano for a couple of months with water changes, brushing off rocks and vacuuming the sand in my tank with no success, I decided to try the Red Slime Remover. The product performed far better than I had expected. I applied two treatments. First, I removed my skimmers collection cup but left the skimmer on and then I turned off my UV sterilizer. I applied the required dose to a container of tank water and then poured that into the tank. I waited 48 hours and then performed another treatment. The results were amazing. All the Cyano seemed to have melted away by the fourth day after initial treatment. This is an awesome product that I highly recommend it you are fighting a losing battle with Cyano. Good luck and happy reefing. ;^)

Purchased this product after reading the reviews and it took about 24 hours in my 120 mixed reef for the red slime to go 100% bye-bye. It will make your skimmer explode; I couldn't turn mine down far enough, so be ready to do several water changes. Noticed no ill effects on any livestock.

From Fishes, Inverts, Corals, Feather Dusters, Pods, etc. I took the advice of a friend who already used this product. He told me to watch the skimmer just as soon as I used it in my tank. I just adjusted the skimmer knob (without turning the skimmer off) just enough to let it skim a little...just a little. Next day...no Cyano...and some red dirty gunky water in the skimmer cup. It has been 3 months now and everything is back to normal...as if I never had a cyano outbreak.

Comments: I carefully followed directions and lost two fish. When you use this product, expect disolved oxygen to rapidly fall. Be prepared to agument with extra circulation and possibly an air stone in the sump. Further, have your skimmer ready!!!!!! Yes, your skimmer will go crazy with overflow, but it will quickly remove the product. I would use this product again, but with far more precaution, and I would turn my skimmer on after about 6 hours, contrary to the directions. The good news is ... it did remove the red slime, and did not seem to kill coral or inverts (it has been 48 hours).

Excellent!

Comments: Hey! This stuff really works! Had a really bad red slime infestation. Two days it is almost gone. Yes, it works that fast. I expect it to be completely gone in another two. Don't be misled by the small bottle. A little bit will go a long ways.

Comments: put it in 4 days ago...all i got was the same cyano outbreak, and a tank chock full of microbubbles...can barely see into my poor reef tank...this crap wreaks havoc with your skimmer...will these bubbles ever disperse ? i'm at my wits end....DO NOT waste your time or money....
