To see the beauty of colorful sea creatures, you need a light fixture that effectively brightens everything up, even when submerged under water. There are several commercially available lamps but they may not provide a lumen value or intensity that is up to 20% brighter. But UV Lighting Corp. has developed a fluorescent bulb that has that definite characteristic. They call it the UVL 454 (85% Triband Blue 15% 420nm Nichia Phosphor) V-HOR T5 Fluorescent Bulb from Pet Store
Like their famous UVL lamps, this product also has a built-in 180° internal reflector, providing your aquariums and fish tanks
up to 30% more concentrated light intensity compared with normal output bulbs. It is also designed to disperse heat evenly so the bulb can last for a long time. VHO (very high output) lamps usually last up to a year while T5 high output lamps can stay lighting for a year and a half.
UVL 454 (85% Triband Blue 15% 420nm Nichia Phosphor) V-HOR T5 Fluorescent Bulb has a maximum or peak spectrum at 454nm, which means the growth of marine plants are optimum due to favorable natural photosynthesis. The blue phosphors allow penetration of light into deeper aquariums or tanks, which can even make some corals to fluoresce. This lamp is of high quality materials and is made to withstand high heat and other elements. If you are looking for a lamp that will light up deep tanks, this one"s for you.

454 UVL ultra blue
(Posted on 1/11/11)
Comments: UVL as always, an excellent product. Gives the tank great color and a beautiful look. I like this blue color more than the actinics themselves, but still using in combination with the actinics.

Comments: Best brand ever! internal reflectors are ideal especially if your fixture reflector does not individually reflect individual bulbs.
Burned out ballast
(Posted on 2/6/11)
Comments: It appears that a Super Actinic bulbs I received with this shipment was defective and burned out my balast. There is a loose piece rolling around in both of the Super actinic bulbs that is not present in any other bulbs. The ballast has been in use the last 3 years with no problems but with the new bulbs burned out in one day. At this point I think there is a problem with the UV super actinic bulbs. I am giving 2 stars as I have had good results with UV bulbs in the past. Lets hope this is a short term issue with quality.
