Zilla Desert Series T5 Fluorescent Light Bulb (7 Inch, 23 Watt Lamp) Information

Part #: 67078

ZILLA DESERT SERIES T5 FLUORESCENT LIGHT BULB (7 INCH, 23 WATT LAMP)Among the different pieces of equipment that go in a terrarium, lighting is probably one of the most crucial. While the humidity level in your terrarium is important for the skin health of your reptilian or amphibian pets, the lighting plays a crucial role in your pet's health. Because reptiles are cold blooded, they need a certain temperature level to maintain optimal health and digestion. While UVA rays are the most needed in terms of delivering the actual temperature that they need, ultraviolet B rays are needed for the special heat that they need at a rate of 50 microwatts per second to maintain optimal health. Ultraviolet B and ultraviolet A rays interact with reptiles at different levels and you need both for the optimal heat that they require. Just like food and water, lighting is very important for reptiles because unlike mammals that have internal heating systems and could generate their own heat, reptiles require external heat sources to get the heat they need for digestive and other bodily processes. The Zilla Desert Series T5 Fluorescent Light Bulb from Pet Store is a highly efficient type of fluorescent bulb in the T5 series. It is a mix of high heating power and decent wattage to provide a good value for pet heating purposes, whether for aquariums or terrariums. This series of bulbs, the Desert 50 bulbs, are designed to last 3500 hours which averages to around 12 months of use. If you are looking for a better kind of reptile lighting, definitely check out Zilla Desert Series T5 Fluorescent Light Bulb.

Delivers UVB light levels essential for desert reptile health

Full-spectrum illumination accents subtle pet colors

Styles to fit fluorescent, incandescent light fixtures

Bring a ray of desert sunshine to arid reptile habitats

When it comes to the bone health of a desert reptile, the extra daily dose of UVB light provided by a Desert 50 bulb (50 microwatts per second/cm2) is as essential as proper food and water for long term strength. The Desert 50 family of bulbs also provide needed UVA light, plus visible-spectrum illumination that makes skin coloration more vivid and viewable. Get all this in a family of high-efficiency bulbs designed to fit most major fluorescent fixture types (compact, T5 and T8). Incandescent lamp users also have the option of a Coil Bulb that screws into a standard light socket. Desert 50 bulbs are designed for 3500 hours or twelve full months of average use.

Zilla Light/heat lamp Product Review by JANIS DOW (Posted on 2/27/11)

Unsatisfactory

Comments: The round Zilla combo light and heat lamp has not worked well for us. The heating element in the center of the dome has caused the plug and wiring for the round flourescent tube to overheat and deform. As a result, the flourescent tubes burned out within a couple of months. Now we can no longer get the flourescent light to work at all and are left with two new but unusable lights. We're still using the unit as a heat source, but have added a separate straight-tube, full-spectrum light. Nice idea, Zilla, but needs to be redisigned.
